We visited Ho Lee Fook for dinner in early January. We managed to get a table straight away and were led downstairs to the restaurant, which is very compact and has a limited number of tables. We were made to feel welcome and the wait staff were helpful and advised us on the best way to choose in terms of the number of dishes and from which section of the menu. The only criticism is that it is rather dark and we needed to use the torch light on our phones to read the menu. The food was exceptionally good, however the price is extremely expensive, we have eaten at Rick Steins restaurant and paid less for more food, to put the price into context. That said we would eat at the Ho Lee Fook again.

Came here as per recommendation of a barber in town, which made me have pretty high expectations and I’m happy to say that both the food and the service exceeded my expectations. As a couple we ordered 5 different dishes that all was really tasty, but a bit too much for us to finish. I would say the beef tenderloin and cheong fun noodles is a must if you plan to make a visit.

We finally made it after several attempts. They don’t accept any bookings, so you need to be there at 6 pm to get a table, or wait! It is one of the 20 odd restaurants managed by the Black Sheep Group. Excellent and friendly service throughout. Many of the dishes are designed for sharing, so a group of 4 can taste more different dishes to 2 only. There were only the two of us, but we still managed to try a few: Mom’s dumplings, upper Goose, asparagus, beef tenderloin. All were very good. Next time we will definitely try their ribs, which are supposed to be excellent! Also had a couple of their very potent cocktails: BB-LA; Basil + chilli infused vodka, gin, lemon, pineapple, almond and 800: gin, lychee, lime, ginger ale and butters Once you have ordered, dishes arrive fairly fast and you are usually out in under an hour, unless you are a larger group and don’t order all dishes at once.

The decor is super nice and very different than usual restaurants. The menu is tight and quite interesting, but food is generally bad: there was so much salt and msg in everything we had. Spicy chicken wings and crispy chicken were better... steamed asparagus, bamboo salad, stir fried cheong fun were almost inedible. Barramundi fillet was frozen hence quite tasteless and flaky when steamed. Service tends to be over friendly but not knowledgeable... they tried to explain to us that Asian food was to be shared and what a wok is, but then cannot cook simple and straightforward Chinese food. Not worth going back.

Char Siu, you haven't tried it until you eat the Char Siu prepared at Ho Lee Fook! Absolutely delicious and tender, great fat to meat ratio! The food was OUTSTANDING, elevated chinese food to die for! The wing bean with garlic puree was honestly one of the best things I have ever eaten! This Chef knows what he is doing and the service backs it up very well. Great vibe, with flavorful food and attentive service, I have nothing negative to say, only a WOW, keep up the good work. The hygiene protocols were also very appreciated.

Stop reading. Jump in a cab and go to Ho Lee Fook. Quite frankly, it was one of my finest dinner for a long time. The place is vibrant with great rock music in the background (some of my colleagues found it a bit loud. I didn’t). The service is perfect, very professional and friendly at the time (a difficult balance to strike). And the food... we went for their Double-happiness menu and were blown away. It’s been ages I haven’t had a multi course meal of that quality, courses after courses. From curry to salads to steak tartar to barbecue and the side dishes (I loved the rice we had to mix ourselves), it was simply perfect. Also try their locally brewed beer, which we had before moving to wine (very nice selection). Congratulations to the chef and his team. And thank you for a great experience.

Excellent food in a beautiful location. Have been coming here for a few years every once in a while but recently visited for the first time after the renovation. The dining room has greatly benefited from the revamp, and is a lot brighter and more vibrant. We started off with the dumplings, and they were simple yet perfect with a little touch of spice. For mains, we ordered a steamed barramundi that was melting in our mouths with juiciness, and of course we also had the great char siu that is a highlight and a must-order for anybody who comes here. Everything meshed well with the egg fried rice, and we were delighted that our server Jules remembered our preference for trying a variety of spicy sauces from a previous visit. The restaurant has a wide variety of available sauces, from a fermented ‘GOCHUJANG’ type sauce to a habanero puree, and each of them adds a new dimension to flavour to the dishes. The only slight disappointment was the Margarita ordered — it was passable but seemed lacking in any special flavour that would make it stand out from the crowd or that would add to the food. We will definitely be back to try the rest of the other dishes another time. Well worth the slightly higher prices for Chinese food here in HK.

A warm greeting at the front door was a good indicator of how the rest of the evening went. Welcomed by the open kitchen and wall of lucky gold cats, it’s a fun take on what to expect from a traditional Cantonese restaurant. The service was personable and friendly but not overly so. Small attention to detail throughout our meal made it clear they were looking after our every need. The food was incredible!! Certainly not Uber traditional but that’s not what we wanted - the prawn toast, mapo tofu and cheong fun noodles were the highlights 😍 We noticed the Chef come downstairs and mingle with a few tables which left everyone smiling and was great to see how much she cared for the guests! We were given some shots at the end of the meal to ‘help digestion’ 😆 can’t wait to go back!!

What an experience. This was our last night in Hong Kong and Ho Lee Fook made it a special night. The staff made recommendations for us that, quite simply, were spectacular, for both vegetarians and non vegetarians. The food was great, the atmosphere was great, the staff were great and the experience was awesome.

The food is great, undoubtedly. I echo the props for the wing bean salad. I just had the staff bring food and was delighted by each dish. Shout out to those good people. The setting is equally stunning. Backlit Hong Kong art covers the walls. Lucky cats adorn the entry stairs (and serve as a vessel for certain cocktails, too!). I can't remember the last time I spent so much time photographing a restaurant.

Boisterous, energetic and tasty. What a fun night, I've been meaning to try Ho Lee Fook for years, I finally did it and I am extremely happy I did, how do Black Sheep Restaurants run their restaurants so differently? There is so much more, always. It's an experience, you don't just go to a Black Sheep Restaurant to sit and eat, well you could, but you'd experience so much more than that, always. I woke up in the morning after dining at Ho Lee Fook, still thinking about the dinner we had, I just want to go back and have that experience again, the food is outstanding, the service is outstanding, Ho Lee Fook is OUTSTANDING! Absolutely delightful.

This restaurant was amazing, our waitress was very attentive answering our questions and mentioning best dishes and drinks to try. I loved the fun factor of the lucky cat mocktail glass and the quirky decor. We had the honey pork and it was divine we both agree the best pork we’ve ever eaten and we keep speaking about it days later. Portions were large and we left very full. The staff surprised us with a mini dessert of cakes to celebrate our anniversary which was a lovely touch. Definitely somewhere fun and out of the ordinary and ideal for celebrating an occasion or just to enjoy a spectacular meal.

Recommend to visit from a friend and so pleased we went with the recommendation. Friendly welcome even though it was 9 pm on a Sunday night. Helpful waiting staff who advised us on the menu. A really interesting menu which made it difficult to choose! Pork dumpling starters and prawn 🍤 toast both delicious. The star 🌟 of the show was the beef 🥩 rib which was memorable. We shared with some wok fried greens. Special thanks to James who really looked after us and helped get us a cab home. Will definitely revisit if ever in 🇭🇰 Many thanks 😊

We loved the tongue in cheek name and after reading the reviews, decided this is where we wanted to go out for our main night in HK. We weren’t disappointed. It’s a busy place so without reservations, we put our name on a list and went for a drink in a local bar for half an hour. When we came back we were whisked downstairs, drink order taken and were shortly seated at our table. The atmosphere was great. Busy, slightly noisy with all of the bustling conversation and fab music, but great nonetheless. Food choices were good, well prepared and presented. It is expensive and the wine particularly expensive, but if you can put that to the back of your mind, you’ll have a great time.

Central
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.
