We arrived at Yat Lok Restaurant in Centeal slightly past 7pm on a Sunday evening, and there was a queue of 10 persons in front of us. Nonetheless, these moved quickly and we were soon seated at seats as arranged by them (no selection). We ordered a lower quarter portion of roast goose, roast pork, egg noodles and warm lemon tea. The roast goose had crispy skin and just the right amount of fats, delicious, and is definitely the star. The roast pork is passable and nothing exceptionally in my view, especially if it is one star Michelin restaurant. A couple who were foreigners who do not speak Cantonese or Mandarin tried to order drinks first while deciding on the mains, were simply told off to order whatever they want at one go. In short, cramped seating and services less than polite, but the roast goose was really good.

Don't be discouraged by the ubiquitous queue outside the venue, the service is fast and you eat sharing the table with other patrons. The dishes are really very good, especially those based on goat meat, tasty, soft and tasty. Cash only payment but at really competitive prices.

We came for the food and was quickly seated with only a few minutes wait. The restaurant was quite busy so we had to share a table with another couple as it was a common practice. A friend gave us tips on how to order so we got a small plate of char siu and the left quarter leg of the goose (supposedly the best part) with a small plate of rice. The server took our order without much comments and it was quickly delivered. Helped to plan ahead. The char siu was slightly fatty but was tender and tasty. The goose was perfect with nice crispy skin, tender and flavorful meat and plentiful. A little on the pricey side for lunch (HKD $110 for small char siu and $198 for leg quarter goose) but checked off our box for goose in HK since it’s not that common back home.

I found a cockroach in Beijing dumpling soup then told the waitress the she just took the bowl back with out make any apologies until i ask her she just said “ Ok Cancel Cancel !!! “ that all no apologies or any responsible or take any action as i assume that the soup bowl that they cook should be very big pot they should throw it because it will serve to another customer but they act nothing…. i dont want anything just say sorry im willing to pay full amount of bill. I highly not recommend this restaurant no cleanliness, super pack they try to put as much as they can in one table and no respect and responsibility.

Lol, I’ve been going to Michelin places for maybe a decade or so and being a Hong Kong person I’m sad to see this is listed as an example of HK style eatery. The food quality was worst than random street places i’ve had around HK Island or Jordan. I wonder how much they paid the inspectors for the star. Also Michelin people, if you have trouble finding real Hong Kong places that’s actually good, drop me a message. This is…embarrassing. As to the food I ordered, I had the chicken and goose (their specialty) combo for 62HKD, there were less than 4 pieces of edible meat on my plate. Almost all the chicken pieces were bones, the few goose I had were decent, possibly slightly crispier than the 大家樂 down the street, except you’d get more actual food and half the price. There are plenty more of these chinese bbq places around Jordan which is on par with what’s here in terms of taste and not a complete ripoff here. Did I mention my bone-iful meal? Ok yeah. No. Never again.

Food was just alright. Service horrible, rude and kept pushing you to get the more expensive stuffs. We repeatedly told them we wanted the combination noodles of chicken and roasted pork for HKD 72 (on their menu), but they kept pushing the larger individual servings of chickens and separate servings of roasted pork (which we told them to be wrong order delivered and we sent it back to them TWICE). Eventually they delivered what they claimed and appears to be a combination plate, at the third time of delivery (after we told them twice earlier and rejected them twice earlier that they delivered a larger than ordered portion food). At bill settlement they insisted that they delivered a larger portion of food which we did not order and have repeatedly sent it back to them twice. Long story short - they were only focused on upselling, and shafting you larger value orders regardless of what u ordered. At the end of it all, it truly showed you what this shop only wants to do. To make as much money as possible, at the expense of sending and delivering food orders to unsuspecting clients - and then try to make them pay for it. Beware of this place.

After researching the must-eats in HK, I brought my parents to Yat Lok for a dinner. We walked a long way just to have dinner at this ‘Michelin star’ restaurant, our expectations were high but the service was terrible and disappointing. We had to share tables with two other people, but that’s acceptable knowing it’s common in HK. The bald waiter was however, really rude to us. While we were about to order, he came to us and randomly pointed to a few items on the menu to ‘force’ us to order those. But, those were not what we wanted to order. He stood there and as a result, we were pressurised into quickly ordering our food. When the food had arrived, the same bald waiter served us by throwing and sliding the plates onto the table. We thought this was really rude??? We are tourists and were customers of the shop, so shouldn’t the attitude be better at least? And he was just very impatient towards us…this was really a disappointment and I will never go back there again. 😡

We queued before 10am when the restaurant opened its doors. The waiting was not too long. The dining experience and food were bad. Why? We ordered items from the menu: “B5 BBQ pork, chicken leg and noodles in soup $115”. We were given rice, not noodles in soup. We pointed out the wrong order but the staff said as she’s already delivered it, she cannot change it! We also ordered item “C6 Crisp pork & soya sauce chicken in dry noodles $89”. The noodles were half cooked and salty to the extreme. Others who had also ordered noodles left the noodles uneaten due to the high salt content. We also ordered goose leg and rice but the goose was dry and tasteless. We will not eat at Yat Lok again. We will return to eat at Kam’s Roast Goose where the goose is succulent and tasty and their century eggs with ginger are famous for their excellence.

We went to Yat Lok and were seated and when we tried to order dried noodles with goose, the arrogant staff said it wasn’t available when others you could see had it ordered. With our other order of rice and goose and bbq pork was just mediocre like off cuts of meat and just bones and small amounts of rice. It looked like they wanted us to buy their more expensive dish of half goose as that what she pointed at another table who had it. The rude and loud staff were so appalling it was like a nightmare to even dine at this fake establishment and should never be awarded a Michelin at all. It is a Michelin award of rude staff and only wanted to shift the customers out so that new customers can come in. We had not even finished our dishes and they tried to take it away, we had to tell them not to not take it away as it wasn’t finished. My soup was not finished as I wanted to try another dish by holding it down with my hand as it was obvious what the staff rude strategy was to do. They just take it without even asking in the first place. Having read the many other reviews of this fake establishment, it shows that this is not a one off, it has regularly happened many times of years. It shows how the filth of their service is giving customers the bad end of the stick. The place is not as good as it is made out as there are many other Roast Goose places in Hong Kong and tastes way better like Ki’s Roast Goose located in Causeway Bay with much better and calm customer service, with plum sauce on the table which is unusual with other restaurants. Save your money and spare the rudeness of these old generation staff and try other places in HK who offer way better food and service. Don’t even use the toilet, its the old style hole in the ground, not surprised.

We had come to taste this famous Michelin-rated restaurant. The food is very good, but the welcome leaves a lot to be desired. This restaurant is a real tourist factory, in terms of queue management, arrival at the table and order taking. We're made to understand that we're just walking banknotes. I'm not criticising their success, but I find it hard to understand why they're so keen to make a profit when their restaurant is constantly full. It's on the verge of indecency. I didn't appreciate being forced to eat as quickly as the 2 successive couples in front of us, when we had ordered more than them combined. Not to mention that you have to pay for your napkins 🤣 and add $30 to pay by card. =》 A real incomprehensible racket when their turnover must be gigantic. I only advise to come and eat on the go with enough cash and taste the smallest portion of goose. My advice to the owner: be less greedy and stingy. You earn enough money 🤣

The staff are so rude and the BBQ pork was dry. There are many more restaurants in Hong Kong that serve equally good, if not better, roast goose and BBQ pork. It's not worth cramping into a small restaurant to eat something that is only OK at a break neck speed.

Half a goose at $370 not worth it, mixed roast meats with rice, small portions, overpriced and salty, not value for money. The dining area is quite tight and feels very greasy and dirty.. don't believe the hype of the Michelin stars..high price for average food!!

After reading couples of recently negative reviews, we hesitated to visit this restaurant, but then decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, even it was crowded at 7.45pm when we got there, we could find the seats easily by the friendly support of the staff. Services were nice and quick. Staff could speak a basic English but that was not a problem. Price was bit high, however, the roasted goose was amazing and worth every single penny. If you are looking for a Michelin-awarded restaurant serving local dishes, we would recommend this one, but do bear in mind that they would not offer private seats or private waiters to pour the water for you.

I went to this restaurant during my visit to Hongkong. On the first day I been there and they ran out of BBQ pork and Crispy pork so I went back the next day and that's how the horror started. We were put on a table which we sat side by side, that's fine, typical HK restaurant style but the dirty table clothes on the table were just a palm away on the same table, disgusting. We were a group of 2 so we I would like to order a plate combo of roast pork & goose and 2 bbq pork with rice. The lady waitress said no we had to order a plate of quarter with drumstick and then 2 plates of bbq pork and crispy pork with rice. And then when we said No. She then said no no no and complained in her chinese language. I was like why???? You had all the item and even on the menu why could not I order and why in the world she forced us to order the one with drumstick ?? because it's never gonna sell and more expensive ??? and I did not want to eat the crispy pork and on top of everything it's my money and if you had all the items on the menu then should not you sell it just the way it was?Why trying to cheat on us??? We ended up order just 2 plates of bbq pork with rice no goose and no crispy pork. She seemed disappointed and at that time I didnt want to argue with her anymore. To whoever considering eating here, the taste was typical HK style but the service was by far THE WORST restaurant I have ever experienced since I started visiting Hong Kong for decades. Hygiene was probably something they did not know they should had it as a restaurant. Please go and eat some where else. Ki roast goose and Kam's roast they were super friendly and the food taste wonderful and the atmosphere and the cleanliness were much better than this dirty mess hall. And to Michelin, please delist this restaurant they cheated on customers !

Michellin should withdraw the star as I don’t even know how they can get one in the first place. So-so food quality, overly priced, zero customer service and total absence of ambience. The counter staff are particularly rude and even challenged customers who complained of their insolence not to return. Is that how a Michellin starred restaurant is awarded and for that matter 10 years consecutively??!! There are many others who are way superior in all aspects and yet not awarded a star. Something is seriously wrong with the Michellin rating system or perhaps the auditing staff involved. I am sure many reviewers who faced similar horrendous rudeness and abuse from the staff there will concur with me review a 100%. What is super sure is that this eatery (doesn’t even deserved to be called a restaurant) will be totally out of my visit list permanently and also that of my entire social circle. No customer should be subjected to nor deserved to be abused for spending money to patronise an unappreciative and ungrateful business.

Central
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.
