I absolutely recommend the Brunch! The smoked salmon was a delightful combination of flavors, with fines herbes and a touch of tangy orange and grapefruit. The burrata had a perfect balance, not overly creamy, allowing its unique character to shine. While the white wine was...too soft for my taste, the red and sparkling options were enjoyable. If you have a smaller appetite, consider opting for a lighter main course. Lastly, the mascarpone was absolutely divine. The staff were friendly, and the atmosphere exuded the ambiance of a fancy restaurant in Italy.More

Decent Italian restaurant. Very tasty pasted and Gnocchi - but beef is OKish. Quite corner, walking distance to JW Marriott. Will try again for pasta but not beef.

Four of us went for lunch at this Star Street restaurant. The décor and spacing of the tables seemed promising. I was a guest and so did not order al la carte but had the three-course set lunch (at HK$328). The (3-course) option is a...starter OR soup, a main and dessert. For medical reasons, I am not able to eat dessert. I asked if I might have a starter AND soup instead. The sullen (Chinese?) waitress replied curtly that it was not possible. I asked if there was any flexibility. She sent a waiter over – world-weary and impatient - who told me bluntly it was “not allowed”. It is a trivial matter in itself but the ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ attitude of these two miserable servers was off-putting. I had the soup. It was advertised as “classic minestrone”: it was the blandest of baby food and remined me of (bad) school dinners. I left it after one sip. For my main course, I had the pork chop. This turned out to be 5 slices of pork – dry, overcooked and accompanied only by some tiny, coloured specks of something yellow and orange. A cooked meat stall would have done a better job of producing something moist and flavourful. The white wine by the glass was indifferent (though we went for the most expensive one). In fairness, the place was full and so for some people, curt service and bland food seem to be ok. HK has so many good Italian restaurants from Otto e Mezzo to Venedia (in terms of price). This one - for me - needs to lift it act and do some staff training.More

Went to Giando for on the first day of CNY and couldn’t have chosen better! We were welcomed by Emanuelle and immediately felt as part of the family! The restaurant is warm and well decorated. The food is extremely good with a nice preparation and...the portions are generous! The wine list is impressive with wines from several regions of Italy. Most of us chooses the Alba’s White Truffle Special Menu and we were blowed away by the portion and the quality of the food! For dessert we had the house made ice cream that was stunning!! Absolutely recommend!!!More

We went here last night for anniversary dinner. The restaurant had a good atmosphere, although our table was outside the private room and with the door open, so was quite noisy. Service was really excellent and very attentive team. Food was amazing - burrata, Parma...ham, ravioli, cod, tiramisu - really high standard and beautifully presented. Would definitely recommend and will certainly go back.More

Amazing location nestled in Pacific place. Restauarnt is roomy, classy with high ceilings. Food is amazing…. And especially the olive oil for the breads. Had a kick of spice at the end and was told it’s as authentic and pure as it comes! Loved the...tomato appetiser, and squid main. The steak main was a bit on the tough side, even though we ordered medium. I think it was the beef cut. Nevertheless, all in all, great venue for any type of occasion!More

Giando is a hidden secret for Italian cuisine in Hong Kong. Hidden in the Bohemian Star Street neighborhood, it is a cozy and spacious place with pleasant decor. Food is the typical Italian favorites. The dishes may not be too creative but quality is unbeatable....Burrata is creamy. Scallops, wrapped with guanciale, is aromatic. Housemade pasta, a signature, is a must for all. Strozzapreti with nduja is mildly hot and rich in flavor. Ravioli, with the umami of cod, is tasty. Gnocchi, with a light cream sauce, is not greasy. Dessert is on the heavy side, though. Service is impeccable. Restaurant manager is caring and friendly. Price is reasonable. Reservation is a must.More

I have been here countless times over the years and the food and service have always been up to standard, for a restaurant that is recommended in the Michelin Guide (albeit no Michelin star level). It is to my huge disappointment that on my visit...today for afternoon tea, the standard of food still held up but the whole dining experience was ruined by the constant presence of countless fruit flies during the course of my 3 hour meal. The situation is so serious that I have personally killed 3 fruit flies with my bare hands, before I took these photos of another 3 flies. Needless to say, there are so many other flies that I did not capture in the photos. And to clarify, I was seated indoor and there were no plants or gardens in sight and I have switch tables indoor once but the situation did not improve at all. My multiple complaints to the Chinese manager in dark suit were not met with any apology(zero apology or apologetic gesture), but instead I was simple told that “they have just done a pest control excercise few days ago” (and this is verbatim). I have not even mentioned the 3-4 times that I have returned my wine glass to the manager and servers after the flies had dived into the wine or landed on the rim of the wine glass. I think you all get the picture by now based on my descriptions and the photos provided. I hope the management will address the hygiene and service issues here asap, for you are not only letting your long-time customers down but also the hardworking team inside the kitchen who actually deliver high standard and authentic Italian cooking consistently over the years (including today).More

Superb setting, the quality of the food and drinks you get for the money is absolutely amazing. We started with 6 different starters to share - they are quite big portions ! Then a main each and ended up with Sweets. We all had the...2 hour basic free flow package which included house drinks. The Prosecco was lovely, not too dry, not to sweet , just perfect. The red and white were also really nice. For me there was no need to go for any other packages :). Food was awesome , seafood salad, octopus and potatoes, burrata were just out of this world. The fettuccini with truffles , seafood stew were to die for ! The pork was just a little to dry but still nice. Desserts were very nice too. Would definitely go back.More

Burrata was fresh and a generous portion better to be shared otherwise it would leave little room for the rest of the courses if it was an appetiser for one person. It did ooze out some milky cheesy liquid but somehow it was not 'creamy'...enough and lacked that fragrance unique to a really fabulous burrata. It could do with more swirls of a nice balsamic vinegar. And some grounded black pepper. The red shrimp soup was too weak and not hot enough, could be a bit 'creamier or thicker' or more 'condensed'. When it arrived it definitely lacked the ' inviting ' factor. Please no offence but when it arrived, the soup was like some insipid khaki water colour. It would be good to have a black pepper grinder at the table so we could add it whenever desired. Bread was okay, not amazing with the two choices but the good thing is both weren't greasy i.e. overly brushed with olive oil as in many Italian restos. Could have some more authentic Italian bread though e.g. focaccia. Only olive oil initially served and had to ask for vinegar to add to the small dish of olive oil. Grilled cod was a good portion, fresh and succulent but the Romanesco cauliflower tip served as a side veggie was a bit too ' raw ' so it was very hard to the bite. It is of course not good to overdo vegetables but as it was not intended to be a salad , it should be more "cooked". It would definitely be better if given another minute and drizzled with veggie broth to bring out the flavour. Service was friendly and accommodating and this is what's helped Giando gain points. The Asian manager was very nice and thoughtful to have changed us to a larger table when my initial request for window seat at the time of booking was ultimately declined. We were okay with it as the night was really busy. Yet he vowed to swap our tiny table to a roomier one once it was available and he kept his words. As soon as a bigger round table was cleared, he promptly led us over with a big smile. Another added score is they did not forget to surprise my guest with a belated bday treat as requested in the ' added info space ' when the booking was made on-line----out came two teeny tiny mini chocolaty tarts along with a thin candle standing on a miniature meringue served on a big plate piped with "Happy Birthday" on the edge. It was good they did read everything and carried it out without any prompting. Warm hospitality is, most of the time, what we really care about and a decisive factor to determine if we would revisit although good food trumps in any dining experience. Here it is definitely the nice, warm, pleasant and attentive service that lure us back. And their bathroom is clean too.More

…by the same people who have a similarly extraordinary restaurant in the old Fenwick Pier and some of HK’s best delicatessens in the form of the Mercato shops. We had the brunch menu for $550-ish each and were treated to six sublime starters between us,...a main and dessert each. The standouts among the starters were the beef tartare and tuna carpaccio too, which makes sense. Service was impeccable and much like their first location, it’s a beautiful space.More

This Italian restaurant is located on Star Street in Wanchai, just opposite Pacific Place 3. Founded and managed by Chef Gianni, it delivered modern Italian cooking encompassing his culinary travels around the world, featuring ingredients and wines from Italy’s artisan producers and family farms. Arriving...early evening we were seated at the nice alcove-style booth, with amazing ambience, dim lighting supplemented with candlelight, comfortable leather booth seats and smooth relaxing music. Everything was organized neat and cozy, and on the atmosphere alone it already won us over. We decided to go for the Giando Menu ($898 each) as that included the signatures of the restaurant. The first course was Tartare di Gamberi, Burrata e Caviale Oscietra di Amur. The Mediterranean prawn tartare was finely diced, with a nice, sweet taste, enhanced further by the umami from the ‘Amur Oscietra’ caviar on top. The Burrata underneath provided a rich milky note and with the soft texture mixing in, together with the basil extracts drizzled, was a fantastic starter. The second course was Capesante al Guanciale, Crema di Mais e Tartufo Nero. The lightly seared scallop was wrapped with pork cheek, imparting the soft and tender scallop with the savory flavors, a perfect match between the two. The corn puree underneath was rich and sweet, giving an extra dimension to the overall sensory enjoyment. There were finely shredded shallot and some shaved black truffle on top to give additional aromas to the dish. Another feast of delights. The third course was Cavatelli ai Ricci di Mare. Cavatelli is a type of pasta that looks like tiny shell, and the restaurant made them in-house, offering a great bite and was one of the best pastas I had tasted in terms of texture. Prepared using the ‘Aglio Olio’ style, there was an intense umami taste from the shaved bottarga, the fish roe that had been salted and cured like Japanese karasumi. The sea urchin on top was bright orange in color, giving extra visual appeal and flavors to the pasta. A must-try. The fourth course was Gnocchi su Fonduta, Prosciutto e Tartufo Nero. We could already smell the rich and nice cheese aromas before starting, and the potato gnocchi were very good, soft and with the delicate flavors matching well with the creamy cheese fondue, plus additional savory and earthy notes coming from the ham and shaved black truffle. The fava beans were also great, providing a contrasting bite with the gnocchi. The overall seasoning was spot on and another great dish to sample. For the fifth course there was a choice of fish or beef, with both of us taking Filetto di Branzino in Crosta di Carasau. The Mediterranean seabass fillet was beautifully pan-fried, with a unique ‘Carasau’ bread crust which were crunchy and reminded me of a Japanese dish in which the chef deep-fried the scales. There was some Romanesco broccoli on the side, and paired with Salmoriglio herb sauce, a signature southern Italian sauce made with lemon juice, garlic, olive oil and herbs to accompany with fish. Very good in taste with the flavors all harmonized. Coming to dessert, we were served Giandoiotto, named after a chocolate from Piedmont, which was shaped like as ingots with layers. The top was rich and very tasty vanilla chocolate, followed by a sponge cake and another layer of chocolate cake and a crunchy chocolate crust at the bottom. On the side it was served with hazelnut ice-cream and crushed hazelnuts. It was a nice conclusion to a great and wonderful meal for us. The service was good, though I hope they could spend more time to explain each course upon serving. Browsing through the wine menu there was a wide collection of Italian wines which unfortunately I could not enjoy on the night. It probably justified another visit for that reason alone. The bill was $2,125 and considering the overall experience, quality of the food and ambience, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who like Italian cuisine.More
