About
Joe Bananas originally open in 1985 and is one of the most iconic bar/restaurants in Hong Kong. Just say to a taxi driver Joe Bananas Wanchai and they drop you outside the door. The original premises were completely rebuilt and Joe Bananas re-opened its doors on 1st August 2014. With one of the largest professional stages in Hong Kong its live bands play popular music to the late morning. Open for lunch Monday to Friday and dinner and drinks every night.

Joe Bananas is one of the legendary bars in Wan Chai that has been opened for 36 years.
Grilled Sirloin Steak $110
This is soooo cheap, and no service charge applies! The steak was surprisingly tender. Not the baking soda marinated kind and truly soft.
Garlic Wings $88
Also cheaper compared to other bars in Wan Chai. 9 pieces of big wings. Lots of garlic on top. The wings were fried perfectly, served pipping hot, crispy on the outside and juicy inside.
Cosy atmosphere. Spacious area. Friendly staff. Clean restroom. And most importantly, fresh and cold beer from the tap!

A lively bar in Wan Chai which had a live band playing a good selection of music and great tunes when the band was not playing. Drinks the usual high HK price, with HK$90 for a bottle of beer. I went on a Saturday night and it was busy. I was a guy travelling on my own and it was a good friendly bar to have a beer in.

The drinks and service were good here a couple of weeks ago. The wine list was more extensive than I would have thought and my friend was even kind enough to 'shout' m a glass of prosecco. There were some snacks that arrived in a timely fashion as well.

the good times at Joe Bananas are over! Although one of Hong Kong's best bands still plays every night and the atmosphere is often boiling! Unfortunately, most of the staff are now stupid and lazy! Orders are mixed up, forgotten, swapped, and orders are charged twice - unfortunately, that's not uncommon anymore! Or like right now, even though the place is practically empty, I've been waiting for over 30 minutes for a waiter to take my order! "The fish stinks from the head" is what we say here, maybe the management should take their job more seriously! It's a shame that JB used to be one of the best bars in Wan Chai! Apparently they don't need regulars anymore
Addendum: after we had waited almost 50 minutes for service, I was thrown out of the bar by the security staff without giving any reason - probably because I complained! Lucky are those who have good employees!

My friend got drugged there. On the way to the toilet 2 women stopped him and offered a drink. The drugs hit him already after 1 minute! After he was not able to walk anymore, the 2 women brought him outside where a car was already waiting. They brought him to the ATM where they forced him (with a pistol on his head) to enter the pin. Then they drove to his hotel , the women got his room key and robbed everything. We were at the bar of Joe B. , when all happened. We had no clue, because the bartenders started giving us free drinks. I am sure they did it , so we didn’t look at our friend who got drugged on the way to the toilet. The bar tenders must be involved! We went to the police and reported all. This was during the Hong Kong electronic fair. DO NOT TAKE ANY DRINKS FROM PEOPLE YOU DONT KNOW!!! This is a criminal place! Be careful!!!!

Years ago they do a fantastic lunch buffet and now they do a 3 course Set Lunch that provided 4 choices of main at a reasonable price within the area IWe ordered the seabass and the Ribeye steak. Although on the menu it claimed Angus Rib Eye but we really don't think so and wouldn't expected for the price anyway.

話說，有個同事晨早流流話lunch約我去食‘’蕉‘’🍌，當時心諗，咩料🤔？咁健康嘅，又係嗰啲減肥健康嘢😆？原來，佢係話去盧押道嘅 Joe Bananas😅，咦？！Heavy嘢嚟喎。
同事話呢間bar係疫情期間停業咗一排，近排先至開返。行到間bar門口，黃色🟨牆身，圓形地球Logo🌎，中間大大個Bananas字顯得非常吸睛😍。
入面環境非常闊落🥰，亦佈置得充滿Halloween嘅氣氛🎃，最吸睛嘅係，間bar最入面有個非常大嘅表演舞台🎤，應該係夜晚俾啲Live Band🎸表演時用嘅，如果有波睇⚽️🏀🎾⚾️，佢哋就會落下一個大屏幕，方便客人。不過佢地嘅坐位絕大部分都係高櫈🪑，如果着裙嘅女仕👗去呢間bar就要留意下啦🙈。
Lunch Menu📔 嘅前菜可以揀湯🍲或者沙律🥗，Main Course就有5️⃣個可以選擇，最後仲有甜品🍰和餐飲🥤，全部價錢劃一收$120仲要無加一，抵喎。最後我要咗湯+肉眼扒，同事就要沙律+羊扒(註：由於全部店員都係外籍人士，所以落單全部係要用英文㗎。)
Avocado Caesar Salad
凱撒沙律🥗份量唔算太多，但蔬菜非常新鮮🥬，仲有差不多接近4分之一個牛油果🥑，正喎😍。
Soup of the Day
今日係周打海鮮湯🍲，材料唔算多，但就非常濃味和非常creamy😋。跟湯附送嘅蒜蓉包不是非常脆口像多士那種，而是外脆內軟而且麵包面上塗了滿滿的蒜蓉牛油😋。
Lamb Rack
羊㗎🍗賣相非常吸引，仲要有2️⃣大舊，同事話羊羶味唔重，肉質嫩滑，肉味濃郁🥰。同事大讚好食😋。(利申：我唔食羊😅)
Black Angus Rib-eye Steak
肉眼扒🥩煎得好靚，但略嫌唔夠厚身，我叫7️⃣成熟，但出嚟就應該過咗7️⃣成，應該去到8️⃣成~8️⃣成半。配菜嘅紅蘿蔔🥕、西蘭花🥦和椰菜花都有調過味和煎過🥰，相反係薯條🍟就好失望，似美式快餐店嗰啲...🥲
Daily Dessert
是日甜品係紅蘿蔔🥕蛋糕，講真，個人覺得好一般，蛋糕算係鬆軟，但就無咩味😶(除咗有白色糖粉嗰度，甜到嚇死你)。有紅蘿蔔粒，但啲味唔突出🥲。
Iced Lemon Tea
可能你地會奇怪點解我會講杯凍檸茶🍋☕️，因為杯茶實在太正啦，茶底唔太濃，唔太淡，適中剛剛好😍。最重要嘅係杯檸茶唔係靠啲冰🧊令到佢凍，而係杯茶本身已經係凍嘅，所以飲落簡直透心涼🥰。
總括而言，$120又免加一，以呢個價錢有呢個質素我覺得相當滿意🥰。

Around 2 weeks ago, my 3 friends and I visited Joe Bananas to celebrate my friend's going away party. (This is during the time period in which HK is still undergoing strict social distancing measures due to the Covid-19 outbreak - the rules stated no group gatherings of more than 4 people).
As we arrived, we had ordered drinks and our drinks were placed down on a table right next to a bigger group of 8. We felt uncomfortable with being assigned a table too close to a large group and were afraid of being mistaken for breaking the social distancing measures so we decided not to stay seated, but instead to stand close by our table and dance.
Shortly after we had arrived, the HK Police had arrived into the bar and forbade anyone to move. After analysing the area, the officers approached me and my friends and made us move closer towards our table. They snapped a photo of us and fined us 5000HKD for being in a group of over 4 people (they had cornered us into a group of 12 - alongside the group of 8 previously mentioned).
The reason as to why I am posting a review for Joe Bananas are the following:
- Bars and Nightclubs in HK, being loyal to their customers, have a habit of warning their customers that the cops are about to come inside, in order to avoid a total disruption to the partying and to avoid losing customers. But in this case, there was no warning whatsoever.
- The staff working at Joe Bananas are responsable for ensuring that the social distancing measures are being followed. Not only did they allow a group of 8 to be seated together, they also seated my friends and I right by that group of 8.
- The Joe Bananas staff did not defend us when we argued with the police saying that we were only in a group of 4.
All of this led to my friends and I, alongside the 8 people next to us to receiving a heavy fine of 5000HKD despite it being unfair and untrue (for my group).
Be careful if/when you go to Joe Bananas, you're responsable for yourself as the staff will not have your back if anything goes wrong.

Big fan of Joe Bananas, great band been regular but too sad to see them turning into another typical Wan chai underground clubs. Talking about ladies and their special drinks.

I am surprised that you talk about ladies and special drinks. Joe Bananas does not offer special drinks for Ladies. We pride ourselves on being a great family restaurant bar and nightclub.

One of the best bands in Hong Kong and good venue.
Drinks are reasonable, not cheap though.
Just not a great atmosphere let it down but I'd go back

Solid restaurant in Wan Chai.
Joe Bananas offers a more Western-Style kitchen incl salads and pizzas, as well as burgers.
The location is easy to reach when hanging around in wan chai and a lot of nice bars are around. Having dinner here with some friends over a beer, is a relaxed start into a fun evening in Wan Chai.

I’m very sad to write this, but we were a group of 40 friends trying to have a very good evening. But when you have two bouncers in the venue making life very uncomfortable who wants to go back there .
You management need to work on your two highly aggressive bouncers on the floor who made our last night together a rather disappointing one.
In times like this in Hong Kong when business is down , you not doing any favours by being arrogant and aggressive to a group bringing in business and left with a sour taste in our mouths.

I am surprised by your review. My experience with our bouncers are that they are very friendly. It would seem from your crowd of 40 persons that you were drinking outside which may explain the potential problem. We are required by the Police to close our doors at 11pm. Please tell me what night you were there and approximate time and we can look at the CTV to see what the issue was.
We are an all inclusive bar that is popular with tourists as can be seen from our other reviews.

Great place to chill out, superb cocktails and food is on par with some fine dining places too, excellent fish n chips and lamb chops!

Went there to recall prior business trips to Hong Kong before the changeover. Changed a lot but service was great, there is a dance floor and the Filipino band we saw were great.
