Haven’t been in a while and can see why it’s pretty much empty, service appalling and suggest not to buy a beer where they decide to push lemon in with grubby hands! Place used to be ok for a beer and perhaps a snack but...it’s really dropped off. You’d think there were customers waiting to get in given the attitude but pretty much empty.More

Excellent friendly staff. The best burgers in Hong Kong. Great atmosphere. Wonderful location on top of the Mid-Levels escalator. I always go here when I'm in Hong Kong. Definitely recommend the burgers, so good.

A really cosy, friendly place. I love the atmosphere and the fact that there’s some really excellent (and different) beers and ciders available. My favourite Budvar is a nice surprise to have recently landed on draught here. As well as some great Brit Ciders too....Management is very affable and service is very personal as it’s a small enough place so they usually remember me and my drink ;-).More

I can see some mixed reviews but we have always found this an easy place to meet friends for a drink. The service has been consistently friendly, to the point where they remember your order, even if you haven’t been for a while. That’s quite...impressive. Seating is mostly inside although there are a few tables out the front where you can happily watch the stream of passers-by travelling on the outdoor escalator. Long tables at the back can seat larger groups. This is a good spot to start an evening. Aim for Happy Hour when, between 5 - 7pm, drinks are 2 for 1 (cheaper wines and selected beers). A few drinks and a few bowls of hot chips & curry sauce with friends always goes down well. On the odd occasion, we have eaten here also. I’ve only had the Phoenix Burger but it is made with Australian beef and is quite good. Mostly, the Phoenix is just a very convenient watering hole at which to meet. Located alongside the mid-levels escalator, it is just a few stops above the lively Staunton and Elgin Streets which are the heart of the Soho restaurant and bar area. Nearby is another popular restaurant and bar, Feather & Bone, as well as a couple of small, casual restaurants, Papa Gomes Indian and Pizzeria Italia. So if you start here, there are any number of places to head off to later in the evening.More

I had written a review sometime back in Xmas when had gone here with my wife. The experience was even worse when I went here with my mate yesterday for a drink. We enter the bar at around 9:00 pm and the first response from...the waitress is “it’s last order”. No hi. No hello. None of the polite stuff. We asked her is that a yes or a no for us to come in. Just responded with a yes. Table was dirty. She didn’t bother cleaning it. With the covid restrictions, the bar is going to close at 10 pm. The least she could do is come to take our order right away. But we had to wait for 5 mins; even after that we had to call her twice to come and take our order. We ordered two little creatures and it took another 10 mins for the beers to arrive. The beers were just left sitting at the bar counter. We had to ask the waitress that isn’t she supposed to serve it to our tables? That’s when she got it else the beers would have just been left sitting there. I asked for a glass of water. Never got it. Instead we were 5 mins into our beers when the waitress got us the bill (mind you we didn’t even ask for it) and says “can you pay this?” and walks away. When I gave my credit card that’s when I asked her “miss atleast now can you get me my water?” The AC wasn’t working as well. So it did get a little stuffy in there. Overall a few observations as I have been to this place a few times: (and it will be my last visit as I haven’t seen such pathetic service anywhere else in HK): - there is a clear discrimination on how they serve Asians vs the white folks. I am not sure if the waitress have been trained to behave that way. But they just make it so bloody obvious; it’s like they are doing it on purpose. The last time I saw that happening was in the seedy bars on Lockhart. Not sure if the current staff has been handpicked from one of those seedy bars. - the staff has zero courtesy. They won’t bother asking you if any food is needed with the drinks. Or if a refill is needed. None of that. And this has been the case everytime I have been there. Again it’s a completely opposite case if you are white - while getting the attention of the staff, if you are an Asian, is a real uphill task; they will pretend like they are busy when you call them. But the reality is they will be busy chatting with some of the single White folks at the expense of which they will ignore and delay the service that they need to provide to others (especially Asians). - the restaurant has been blatantly violating the social distancing and the covid norms. They don’t check your temperature when you come in. Yesterday we saw a group of 8 people sitting together and the waitress did nothing about it. Overall I would advise atleast the Asian folks to stay away from this place. While the bar is good, the service is just rubbish. You will be blatantly discriminated against and will just end up spoiling your mood. Stay away pls!!!More

Location wise the place is decent. But service is quite ordinary. There are only two waitresses and so the service is real slow. Also you can see a clear difference in the way they serve white customers vs Asians. Try to suck it up to...the white customers while the Asians get extremely mediocre service. Honestly this place can be a lot better. The service needs to be fixedMore

The Phoenix located at the mid levels is evidently successful as they have been here since 2000.It is always busy when I go past it but this Sunday I seized the opportunity for dinner as it wasn't that busy. There were so many good options...to choose from like dishes launched for St Patrick's Day and they even had bubble and squeak. Sunday Roast is almost disappearing from the Hong Kong scene so I ordered that. Delaney's in Wanchai used to serve it but they have closed down a few years ago. It was roast pork loin that day with cider gravy. The pork was a bit dry but the other stuff made up for it especially the cauliflower cheese which was so comforting. It tasted like the stuff we got at school in this creamy cheesy sauce that complimented the dry pork loin nicely. The pork crackling was way too hard. For drinks, had tea and the zero alcohol lager by Carlsberg. Not that I'm complaining but the Sunday Roast was only HKD158 on the bill so maybe it was a late night discount??More

We stopped in on the way up the escalator and the draft beer was good and cold, but the Nacho's were average and it just seemed like they really didn't care if we were there or not. Certainly didn't get a welcome vibe at all.

We pop in here whenever we're in Hong Kong. The welcome is friendly and the food is good. Try the specials. I had the salmon and my husband the burger. Both very good indeed.

We really enjoyed this little gem at the top of the escalators. The happy hour was great with 241, as was the atmosphere and fab spot outside to watch the world go by. We had nachos with all the trimmings, cottage pie and burger/chips -...all to a very good standard and reasonably priced. We’ll be back!More

This small, cosy pub style establishment has a great atmosphere and welcoming staff. Touting Australian craft beer, some traditional English Cuisine among other popular European dishes it's not really a true blue Brit pub, but who cares? It's a pleasant place to chill. Just be...careful what you order, prices are a tad higher, even during 3-8pm happy hour AND there"s a 10% hike on top of listed menu prices. (A lemonade cost me HK$41-80 )More

This became our ‘local’ whilst visiting Hong Kong for a week. Returned three times for dinner as we thoroughly enjoyed the vibe and menu choices. Apart from the delicious variety offered for the main meals, the rhubarb crumble with custard dessert got us every time....Thank you Ronald for making my mother’s birthday so special.
