Recently went to Honjo and absolutely loved it. The food was beautifully prepared and incredibly tasty. It was so unique for a Japanese restaurant and it was priced really affordably for a Japanese In Hong Kong with no compromise to quality. What is usually lacking at Hong Kong restaurants is the service... but not at Honjo. They were great... made recommendations.... knew the menu inside and out and were happy to change anything (if you needed it). It was highly recommended to us and now I’m passing on the recommendation! Thank you for such a great experience, We will definitely be back soon!

Honjo is a modern yet eclectic Japanese restaurant on Queen's Road West. Opened by the Pirata Group last summer, this is a nice venue that makes for a quality dining experience in Sheung Wan. Opening hours are 6pm-12am daily with additional 12pm to 2.30pm (lunch) service on weekends. Reservations recommended. Dining area is darkly lit, intimate but casual as well, making this a good place for date nights as well as gatherings with friends. Service is very good, attentive and timely. They were able to answer all questions we had regarding the dishes and ingredients used on the evening. During our meal we tried the Traveller's Tasting Menu which included 11 courses, including chef's selection of small, raw, hot mains, tempura, sushi, sashimi and sides. Portion sizes are manageable and everything served was of very good quality. Most enjoyed on the evening were the Cauliflower and Tuna Cracker small plates, Hamachi raw serving and the Wagyu striploin. Could have easily listed several more but these were what stood out the most. We appreciated the waitstaff being able to explain each dish and the chef who came out to talk to us about a couple of signature dishes. This was a really nice touch. In the end, everything served as part of the Traveller tasting menu was very good and we really liked the dining setup at Honjo. This is a great restaurant by the Pirata Group, a place that most will really enjoy when dining here.

The sincerity and warmth the team display looking after you permeates all interactions and guests touch points - being in the service industry myself I must say I have taken a few pointers home with me after this evenings experience. Food is delicate while maintaining flavour and balance. The Wagyu tataki would holds its own against any other in any restaurant in any country one could choose to compare it with, salmon puffs have a flavour I find difficult to describe but one I shall return to Honjo again and again to savour. The humble corn dish will blow your taste buds into overdrive, while the Mizuna salad is simply outstanding. Hon maguro sashimi platter was fresh and such a treat. As it’s dry January I opted for one of the new mock tails Michelle recommended and glad I did. Fresh juice with fresh fruit - what a change from the carton world most dwell in these days.......... A very impressive experience indeed. Their challenge will of course be to keep executing at this level consistently. A task I suspect they are more than capable of delivering.

Went to Honjo for the first time tonight. Had pretty high expectations as some of my foodie Hk friends had taken me. Unfortunately our salt baked Seabass (which we had waited 40 minutes for to cook) was served totally raw. What a disappointment! The servers/ managers were really kind to give us a discount on our total bill but to be honest this is totally unacceptable for a restaurant of this caliber!

Before last night, I’d been to Honjo a few times (lunch and dinner) since I like its food, decor, service and ambience. Last night I went there with a friend for our “last supper” before the ban on dine in after 18:00 came into effect. We arrived at about 19:00. The place wasn’t busy at that time. On the recommendation of a very friendly waitress, we took the Deck The Halls menu which is available until 30 December 2020. We also opted for the 2 hours’ free flow. Both were very good value for money. There’s quite a lot of food, including some signature dishes of the restaurant, and it’s all delicious. The service got very slow after our sushi and sashimi platter. I told the friendly waitress apologetically that I was in a hurry and asked her more than once to bring us the rib eye main course, the side dishes and the desserts as soon as possible. But the service was still very slow. She kept on saying our desserts would be served very soon but only brought us the sorbet without the cheesecake which was supposed to go with the sorbet. In the end, I couldn’t wait any longer but had to skip the cheesecake and leave first. So I didn’t know how the cheesecake tasted. I didn’t bother to say goodbye to the friendly waitress. I understand it’s busy in the restaurant but she could have been a little more proactive to make sure we got our cheesecake. A meal which could have been great ended on a sour note.

Honjo is a modern Japanese restaurant located in the rather quiet Sheung Wan area. The restaurant is very spacious. Servers are sincere. However, drinks (1 coke, 1 cocktail, and a bottle of 300ml sake) ordered at the same time as the meal are only served midway through our dinner. Food is very disappointing and definitely overpriced! The so-called slow cooked “Pork Belly” (HK$160) is hard, tough, oily and super sour! The tuna trio “Hon Maguro” (HK$ 490) is still semi frozen when served. The “Sushi Platter” (HK$ 240/regular) can’t even compare with the ones we can buy from a supermarket, in that the sushi rice is hard and dry, while the fish is unimpressive! Although the “Hamachi” (HK$140) and “O-toro” (HK$210) might be of high quality, the acidic seasonings take away the freshness of the fish. The “Wagyu Gyoza” (HK$ 160) and “Raw Wagyu” (HK$ 150) appetizers are too lean and very rough in texture. The shrimps from the “Honjo Tempura Selection” (HK$240) are not crunchy at all! The only recommendable dish is the refreshing “Hamachi Salad” (HK$ 160).

Came here with a group of friends from the UK in the run up to Christmas - all were impressed. One of the group was vegetarian and they still found plenty to enjoy. All of the other meat and seafood dishes were excellent and service was attentive and friendly without being at all intrusive. The Tuna Cracker starter and Baby Chicken Main course were particularly good. Special thanks to Sommeliers Nicole and Kelvin for keeping the Four Fox Saké flowing! Will return soon.

Entering Honjo is like walking into a wonderland. Next to TMK, the entrance to Honjo appeared to be small. After taking a lift to first floor, you will walk into a massive restaurant which radiates a nice scent with a nice interior design. The Restaurant Week deal is quite nice, for HKD$398, you get to enjoy all these Japanese dishes. The dinner was kicked start with five small dishes. The steamed edamame was seasoned with sea salt. Ordinary yet enjoyable. I love these boneless chicken wings so much! Seasoned with Okinawa black sugar, garlic and fresh chili, they were really enjoyable. Not your ordinary Japanese fried chicken. The hamachi was really fresh, topped up with ikura (salmon roes), watermelon radish and ginger ponzu, it’s a really refreshing dish. The texture of these wagyu pieces were interesting because of the crispy quinoa, giving them a rather crunchy sensation. Seasoned with chorizo oil, asahi tosazu and chives, the wagyu pieces had splendid flavors. Among the five small dishes, I like these salmon tapioca puff most. Wrapped inside this crunchy rice puff were salmon, rice, yuzu-koshu and purple shiso. So enjoyable and delicious indeed! The Sushi & Sashimi Platter were a bit ordinary, yet fresh and yummy. Just not as surprising as the salmon tapioca puff. There were two mains. First one was this Cauliflower with black truffle, passion fruit butter sauce, capers, and almond pieces. The superb dressing made the cauliflower a grand dish. Yum yum! The other main was this Australian BMS 3 Wagyu Striploin with Asian chimmichurri. The striploin was nicely grilled. But what topped up the whole dish was definitely the seasoning powder on the side. My friend and I ordered one each of the dessert to share, so that we got to try both. The Yuzu & Umeboshi Curd was a bit ordinary. We adored the Matcha Lava more, especially the aromatic soba cracker on top. The matcha lava also made great ice cream dressing. Worth visiting Honjo for a nice weekend dinner with friends.

My friend and I had lunch at Honjo during the restaurant week. The menu, priced at HK$198 per person, included 4 appetisers and some tempura shrimp maki for sharing, a main course of our choice and a dessert. The food was basically Japanese but with some influences from the West. Boneless chicken wings cooked with Okinawa black sugar, garlic and chilli were flavourful. The outside was crispy and the inside tender and juicy. The tapioca puffs with chopped salmon were interesting. Both my friend and I loved the flank steak main course. Considering the quality and quantity of the food, it’s very good value for money. The interior of the restaurant was stylish and the setting very comfortable. There wasn’t much ambience since there’re only a few tables of customers. I guess it’s mainly because of the pandemic.

Amazing night at Honjo. We were greeted nicely by the host and he showed us to our table. The restaurant looks great with cool decor. The food was so tasty and original. Service was attentive and sincere. We celebrated my boyfriend's bday and I requested a dessert with name and message which they did discretely by asking us whether it was ok for them to choose a dessert for us. Really beyond our expectations. Can't wait to go back (Still dreaming about the waygu with chorizo oil and wings...).

We had a really wonderful evening dinner at Honjo. It was our first time, and we were warmly greeted and all the staff were very friendly, helpful and up-beat! I really liked the decor, athmosphere and seating in HONJO. The drinks and food were amazing! We started with smallish sushi platters and then we had the cauliflower and the baked fish. It was delicious and one is tempted to lick the plates after eating the contents. There are many choices one can make, between raw, cooked and fried dishes and we can't wait to return to try the other dishes. The dessert was equally tantalizing (the hot lava one, and the cherry cream)...went down a treat! So, overall, I can't fault anything with HONJO and would recommend this restaurant to anyone! (Not just sushi lovers...) We will return!

I tried lunch at Honjo earlier this year and were quite impressed by the food. Last night I went there again for dinner with a friend. We both took the Restaurant Week menu. Considering the quantity and quality of the food, it’s excellent value for money. The starters, except the edamame, were innovative without being too fancy or complicated. They’re all delicious. Sushi and sashimi were decent though very predictable. Both main courses were good. I particularly liked the Wagyu striploin which was cooked to perfection. The 2 delicious desserts, especially matcha lava, ended our meal on a very high note. Just a little suggestion. Given the fact that most dishes were for sharing and the current pandemic, the restaurant should have been thoughtful enough to take the initiative to provide some extra chopsticks and cutlery to be used by the customers for serving the food.

@honjohk from @piratagroup may be a little off the beaten track, but they definitely live up to their promise of ‘attentive service, extraordinary food and memorable dining experience’ We came here for Restaurant Week last year ($198pp) and got to try several of their signature Japanese fusion dishes without breaking the bank! Here’s a highlight of our favorites: [Salmon Puff] The crispy tapioca puffs filled with salmon bits and avocado were simply a work of art. Squeeze a bit of lemon juice for an extra burst of flavor! [Japanese Vegetables Tempura] The seasonal assortment included pumpkin, onions and broccolini coated in thin crunchy batter and deep fried to a fine golden color. [Salmon Teriyaki] The soft moist salmon fillet was glazed in sweet teriyaki sauce and the charred lime added a subtle smokiness to the meat [Matcha Lava] MUST ORDER! The gooey molten lava center was sinfully scrumptious while the vanilla ice cream and sesame soba cracker complemented the matcha flavor like a match made in heaven

This place is now my favourite restaurant in HK... it ticks all the boxes from fabulous food and flavours to excellent staff and service. I also commend them as they haven’t gone the traditional Hk route and just charged the earth because you can I think it is very reasonable for the quality of the food and restaurant ambiance. The wagyu beef is ridiculously good and the tuna platter (5 cuts of tuna) was just heaven...

The food was amazing. Each dish has been carefully designed with just the right amount of seasoning, without compromising the freshness of the ingredients. I am particularly impressed by the sashimi which as exceptionally fresh. To top it off, the place plays great music with amazing vibe which different from the traditional Japanese setting.
