My friend and I would like to catch up in a comfy place and we have made a good choice. Love the high ceiling with natural sunlight in the restaurant. We have taken a semi-buffet with a main course per person. Our meal started with...freshly baked hot buns and soup. The variety in salad bar is sufficient. Both of us have selected pan-fried salmon as our main which cooked well and tasty. Enjoyed a relax lunch here without tight time limit and crowd comparing downtown restaurant. One point to be improved, the coffee taste is not strong enough.More

Staff are really really nice and welcoming. There a very colourful cold buffet of various and diversified salads (my favorite was a 4-kind of tomatoes, with mozzarella and basil, a killer), cheese, cold cut meats and fresh vegetables. Then you can choose to have a...a-la-carte plate, like tenderloin steak and vegetable, or you can choose personalised a plate of pasta (type of pasta, sauce, cooking). It was all very good!More

My second time at this restaurant in the past couple of months. I vowed I wouldn't return but seeing as it was Xmas day and they advertised a Xmas Lunch Buffet and it had to be booked and paid for a couple of weeks in...advance, I thought nothing much could go wrong. 1200 noon we booked for and turned up five minutes early only to find that it didn't open at 12 noon, they were actually about 6 or 7 minutes late. Why? There was a lengthy queue outside waiting to get in. No need for that they should have had everything organised in advance. Then they couldn't get us a table, we had to go here and there and then back to here again. The staff didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing. The couple in front of us were clearly disappointed as well as we could hear them being screwed around. And what about government restrictions as to percentage of tables being utilised. The restaurant here appeared packed full! Christmas buffet it said. Well there was turkey, but it wasn't tasty and it didn't keep coming fast enough. In fact, very disappointing as the trimmings were almost completely lacking. Instead there was Chinese dim sum available and some sashimi fish and some dreadfully scrawny looking sushi of one single variety. There was rice and some other sloppy meat that was overcooked and left one wondering what it even was. Bizarrely this was in the area which read, 'western food'. The starters were few and far between. The mulled wine was fine while it lasted but then ran out. Despite people asking staff again and again, it took them something like 20 minutes to get more mulled wine. We were told twice that they were still making it. Come on.....this was a pre-organised buffet for Christmas, so why wasn't it ready in decent quantities? Honestly, the selection of food for a Christmas buffet was frankly disgraceful. Even if it hadn't been Christmas, their selection in terms of variety and quality was poor compared with many other hotel buffets in Hong Kong. The suites were nice, but a shame there was nothing to tell you what they actually were. Coffee consisted of a coffee machine with two buttons, hot water or coffee. No cappuccino or latte or whatever. And a wee carton of coffee mate or similar. That was very disappointing. I'm not criticizing all the staff as there was a Filipina who was very helpful and working with a smile on her face, but the rest of them looked as though they hated their job. Hardly a smile among them. Very, very disappointing. The management of that restaurant should be ashamed of themselves.More

A friend and I enjoyed a pasta dinner with an endless wine refill option for $98 and found it all very congenial. The chicken fettucine that I had was well prepared and tasty.

We decided to visit this restaurant after our bad experience three years ago. I was hoping that things may change. The restaurant was only 30% of tables seated with guests. As usual, they put us right next to the open kitchen when there was empty tables...near the window. Menus were offered without any recommendation from the waitress. We decided to have octopus, garlic prawns, veg risotto and Ireland strip loin. Bread was served warm and nice taste. Garlic prawns were just cooked (better than three years ago) however the frozen taste still was there even with garlic. The other starter octopus didn't arrive at least 15 minutes after. Unfortunately octopus were not cooked, that was very disappointed. When I returned the food back to the kitchen, no apology was given. The chef just pan fried the octopus in the open kitchen. It came back taste very chewy. We couldn't believe that we have to experience this type of low food quality second time. For the main course, vegetable risotto was tasteless! You couldn't even taste the vegetable. Ireland strip loin priced at $368 +10% which tasted no better than any cheap cafe steak. We asked for medium but you could tell the steak was so chewy. I personally think that Olea has a very nice decor and seating area. However the food quality in here is not matched with the prices. We liked our thick cut fries and bread only! The waitress were friendly but they seem to be not so experienced. We were asked to join accorplus membership when we paid.If you do observe your guests as experienced serving person, you most likely can guess how they feel about their meal. For me, enough is enough!More

We had visitors in town and wanted a Sunday Brunch so we chose Olea which was always an excellent and convenient choice, where the starters and desserts were buffet style, the main course was chosen from the menu. However, to our surprise it was only...ala carte! We recently had been on a previous occasion on a Sunday where we were offered only ala carte but we put it down to being late in the afternoon! On this occasion our visitor had Salmon which was overcooked and dry, I had the sirloin which really had no flavour, the baked garlic cloves were dry and could not be spread on the steak, the potatoes where soggy and tasteless. There were only a hand full of people in the restaurant and it seemed we were the only ones that had booked! I took a friend there 2 weeks ago during a lunch weekday and usually there would be a set lunch with at least 3 choices but this also has been changed to only ala carte. At least the complimentary bread has not changed yet and hope they will continue to serve this. As we are locals in TC we often went to Olea as we thought it was something special in Tung Chung but sadly it has gone downhill. Essence is not a good choice for us as it is noisy, crowded almost chaotic. I do hope they will improve Olea very soon!More

Had dinner with a group at Olea at the Novotel Hong Kong Hotel in Tsun Chung. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and really feels like a high end restaurant. Menu is fairly expensive. Unfortunately, the food and service is below my expectations for the price...being paid. I guess it's targeted to hotel guests and foreigners, as waiters speak only English. We ordered several entrees and shared. We had a Angus Striploin steak ... It was ok but not sure why it included a garlic, which was unusual for me. But I gave it a "B" overall. Had a pasta (fettuccine with roast chicken and red bell sauce). I gave it a C- . Didn't find much chicken in the pasta and sauce was all that great. We also had a pizza ... The crust was a bit over cooked and wasn't too good. If Pizza Hut pizza is an ”A“, i would give a ”D” for the pizza. Waitress not too attentive. No one came to fill water until meal was done. Expected more attentive service for the price being paid. Again, I assume the target audience is to hotel guests who never comes back? Not recommended for locals ... Decor looks great but not worth the price ... High end price and environment, but with low end food.More

For the size and hotel brand, you'd think they would have a real restaurant, considering this is Hong Kong. Nope. Your options are buffet and Olea (basically the same). I ordered the Wagyu and portobello risotto with a shot of Glenfiddich 18 with rocks on...the side. It was 100 USD! The Wagyu wasn't any better than a steak at your local hometown diner. The risotto was good. The shot of bourbon was very small. The service was meh. The server seem puzzled when I explained to her that the 3/4" thick cut of Wagyu was subpar. It literally looked like a steak from IHOP. Tne restaurant knows they are basically holding you hostage unless you want to pay for a 1/2 hr taxi into the City.More

I promised myself not to visit this restaurant again. The USDA prime beef marketing is good poster therefore I made this mistake again. When we got in at around 8:40pm, the restaurant had less than 30% full! The European manager greet us at the door...and we were seated a table next to the open kitchen. Even there were window tables, he would not offer those for us. He showed us all the menus including the USDA special $368 per menu. We chose the crab cake, garlic prawns, chorizo pasta and the USDA beef. The European manager repeated our orders. Then he moved to the POS station asked a local server to input our orders. Since then the European manager disappeared after that. We were served bread which tasted not so fresh, the garlic prawns were frozen and looked even well enough, the crab cake was tasteless but badly smell canned crabmeat. Then the main course arrived, USDA became Australian rib eye, how comes? The local server told us that his manager got the wrong order for him, so what? I am a paying customer, I don't care how the mistake was happened! Creamy spinach was like spinach inside the pouring cream, more like cream and spinach, French fries were cold. Then when the local server exchanged the meat back to USDA prime beef, the meat looked like left in the open kitchen after roasted for more than few hours. It was cold and texture was tough like leather. we weren't even given any steak knife! 2/3 of our steak was not eatren, the local server asked us if we wanted to take it away home! Very funny guy! When the local server presented my bill to me, he offered 10% discount. Right after paying my bill, I went straight to complain to duty manager at the front desk. The duty manager told me that the European manager was actually their food and beverage manager. I will not go back to this restaurant ever in my life. The reader can judge my comment themselves. Don't forget I paid $860 HK for two after 10% discount.More

After a tiring 15hrs. 40min. nonstop flight from Toronto/Canada to Hong Kong,my wife and I were not in the mood for searching out a suitable restaurant in the large Shopping Mall, that is attached to the "Novotel",and that can be reached via an escalator (left to...the Reception). In the Mall you will find several cafe's,serving sandwiches and baked goods. The first,at the top of the escalator, belongs to the hotel. There is also a Food Court, located at the far end of the Mall. When we discovered, that on Mondays the "Olea" offers a Pasta Promotion (a choice of 4 different pastas, plus a glass of wine/beer/juice) for HK$ 98.00,plus 10%,we saw no reason to leave the hotel. The pasta (arrived not as ordered),the wine and the service were o.k. Not as special as hyped by the hotel. With the pasta meals comes a bread basket, olive oil and vinegar. My wife ordered an additional, small bottle of water, costing a steep $can 10.00+tax.On several occasions we ate at the Lobby Bar.Usually a quick (?) Club Sandwich and a beer, and every time we came away disappointed. The waitresses, aloof to the point of being arrogant, seemed to focus their attention exclusively on business people (expecting big tips perhaps?), completely ignoring the "average traveler" like us.On 2 occasions we had to re-order our food, because the orders "got lost" on the way to the kitchen, according to our waitress. On our way back from Thailand to Toronto we stayed at the "Citygate" again, mainly because we love the clean, quiet rooms and the terrific Breakfast Buffet.Plus of course the closeness to the Hong Kong Airport, connected by a free Shuttle Bus.On the return trip we ate dinner at the Mall.More

We knew that the restaurant would be quiet on a weekday evening. There were four tables at 8:45pm in this Hugh restaurant. We were seated and offered a few menu. One of them was Monday pasta special. The price was really cheap. However those selection...were no better a small café in a corner suburb café. Therefore we chose the sirloin steak and mushroom risotto from another special menu. We were upselling for a bottle of sparkling water, that was great salesmanship. The wine by the glass was terrible for the price. 2014 red wine? Then we were waiting for bread for longer than 15 minutes, it came after I checked with the server. Sirloin was not a $368 quality meat, more like $248 standard. Mushroom risotto was priced at $168 and the bowl was only 1/3 full. Mushroom must be expensive! I also saw the tall server (headwaiter?) reminded the other walk-in couple about the limited dining time before last order. That was before 9:30pm. I felt sorry for the management who failed to make well use this nicely decorated restaurant.More

All the dishes are good and they always change the menu frequently to fulfill customer taste buds! If you come during week days I suggest you to try their semi buffet set lunch. All the food from bread to vegetables or olive oil you seems...to taste everything freshly baked from oven or just picked from garden! The only thing that I would like to add a little bit comment is the portion of their main course is too large! It is very cruel as the food is too delicious and tasty but at the end you cannot take them all and you have to say farewell to them!More
