This place is located within Novotel citygate hotel. The decoration is ok. It is spacious and they do have a small outside area. I loved the fact that they make full use of their outdoor not only for seating but also planting herbs and vegetables....We came to this place for buffer breakfast. With Accor plus member, if u are only 2 people, food is doscoumted by 50%. So value wise its ok. Unfortunately the selection is not my cup of tea. They do have fruits, breads and pastry, chinese selections and western selections but food is ok. Nothing spectacular. Service here, the waitress here are very friendly and efficient.More

tried the lunch buffet last Friday with friends and sorry to say that for the price being asked this is not acceptable. No prawns at all, no salmon of any kind, some small sushi selection, a poor salad bar and a few local dishes that...seemed to score with the locals. In case you are looking for some variety in terms of cuisine you are much better of at the Sheraton hotel.. A meal to forget!More

I went with family for their brunch buffet and soon wished I'd gone elsewhere. 217 HKD + 10% service charge per person to get what must be one of the poorest buffets on offer by any (alleged) quality hotel in Hong Kong, and I've been...to a fair number of lunch buffets encompassing a big variety of prices in HK and overseas. There was no real attempt to take our temperatures despite the covid risk, there were people going up to the buffet without face masks and without being told to put them on; the staff were generally surly and at 1430 hours when the buffet closes, the lights were suddenly turned off, the staff starting pressuring customers to pay the bills and there was a dreadful noise and clatter as the staff started to clear away platters and hot plates......all in the presence of customers. It was almost as if the staff were deliberately making a lot of noise and clamour. If that's supposed to be quality hotel/restaurant, I'd hate to be in one that supposedly isn't It was appalling. As for the cuisine; it must be one of the few hotel buffets that didn't have a platter of cold prawns/shrimps and oysters. These are like standard fayre at quality HK hotels and almost expected by customers! There was not a single curry dish, they had beef kebab which tasted more like dried biltong, many of the dishes were either a soggy mush or had dried out on the counter. There was very little choice of sushi dishes and those that were on offer had little taste and left me with the impression that they were dried out or perhaps made many hours before serving. There was fresh salmon and white fish but you couldn't take what you wanted.....it was sliced and dished out by a server who seemed to believe that two or three pieces per person were adequate. Not where I'm from! I must say that the desserts were reasonable although certainly nothing special, but then there was what masqueraded as coffee. They had a coffee machine in which you got plain (weak) ground coffee which actually tasted more like it was from a jar of supermarket instant coffee. There was no choice of cappacino or latte or similar. One type and that was it. And no cream or fresh milk, none at all; just small packets of powdered creamer that you might expect in a workmans' cafe. It was frankly shocking. From a hotel that is purportedly a 4 star venue? Not from what I experienced. But what bothered me the most was the attitude of the staff. Making the noise and clatter as they cleaned up at exactly 1430. I had the bill literally shoved in front of me for payment at this time, even though I and my family members still had food on the plates in front of them. I fully understood that the buffet service only remained open until 1430, but they could have had some decency and been courteous and waited another fifteen or twenty minutes until the customers had actually completed their meal! This is not a quality buffet nor is it quality service. I happen to live in Tung Chung very close to the hotel but I for one will never be back, not after that sort of treatment. There may be few hotels in the area, but there are certainly far better options when it comes to cuisine!More

Visited to celebrate wife's 'Mother's day" with the kids, and was looking for a pleasant & fun dining venue away from the city center, where kids and 'Mom' would have a blast. A great experience which did not disappoint, food selection is more than enough,...there is plenty and for all tastes and ages. It is a very spread out place and the buffet has a good flow, clean and well maintained. Food selection? ticks all boxes, from all fresh seafood to carvings, cold cuts, antipasti, pasta corner and a very generous and tasty mix of western and asian specialties. Kids loved the ice cream and chocolate desserts....and we went for bread and cheese, french baguette!! Great experience, Wifey Mom enjoyed!! Thanks to the team for making it a memorable day, we'll be back for sure.More

The Breakfast is a bit costly but well worth the price. There is a good variety of local and western offering. My favourite is the iced chocolate milk (few hotels offer it for breakfast), the assortment types of fried egg to choose from, the assortment...of bread spread available and the tim sum offerings. It is wholesome meal.More

We loved the breakfast buffet at Essence in the Novotel. It was so convenient to have the buffet handy and the choices were substantial. They included Asian breakfasts such as congee or noodles and Western choices like made to order omelettes. The children's buffet set...up with fruit pops and little pastries was especially cute.More

Currently they have discount offer to all customers (not just hotel guest) on their dinner buffet. They offered various types of seafood and waiter services were efficient in removing your dishes once finished. Foodwise, average plus quality. In terms of $$ paid, don't expect any...surprise but good value for money.More

The excellent breakfast is topped of by watching the 'Egg Lady' simultaneously frying (Over-easy/Sunny-side up - dreadful expressions!), poaching, scrambling and boiling eggs to perfection. A truly Oscar winning performance - such a wonderful start to the day!!

Tried the all-you-can-eat dinner buffet during my stay. Lots of choices offered, but most of the food was rather of mediocre quality - but I did not leave hungry and found some dishes that were worth repeating

Go to essence to have lunch after work! Have been here for several times, but the food is as good as before. The seafood is not that fresh. No refill for part of the cooked food. Disappointed!

The essence is an international buffet restaurant in Citygate. Prices are expensive. The quality of food is good, like the deep sea fish. They have many types of deserts too. However, the cooking remains to be improved. Most of the main course dishes are not...tasty especially the soggy fish, which are a disappointment as Hong Kong is known for good food. It is a bit of a waste cause the desert variety is good and the quality of food is worth the price too. Just need to review the way its cooked.More
