I read that moon lok chiu chow is one restaurant that offers very good teochew food. I have not been to Hong Kong for many years and relished the opportunity to test out the new outlet at L4 Foodloft at Mira Place One,132 Nathan Road....Since l was eating solo,l ordered the pig stomach soup, goose liver and desert. The pig stomach is 6/10,goose liver 7 and the desert also 7. The soup came with 3 slices of stomach and two pieces of lean meat. There was enough pepper without being too hot. The goose liver was not tender enough but good. The desert was almond paste with egg white and yam paste. The almond egg with egg white is one of my favourite deserts in HK and Macau. Getting it with yam was an added bonus, better than the typical yam paste with ginkgo nuts. The service could have been better.More

Moon Lok Chiu Chow is a chinese restaurant specialised in Teochew cuisine as well as dim sum etc. It was located inside Citygate and seeing that they offered 15% discount during high tea timing, we decided to give it a try. Chinese pickles was sour,...very appetizing as a start. Teochew salted chicken with peanuts - Chicken was soft and smooth, and was not overly salty, just right amount. Peanuts was crunchy and slightly salty, good to go along with beer. Stewed eel with salted vegetables - Eel was pan-fried first before boil stew with salted vegetables. Eel was soft, with not much bones in it. Gravy soup was slightly spicy, not too salty as well. Red date cake with lotus seeds - It was made with lotus seeds and red date and from afar, we could already smell red dates. Taste was just right, not too sweet and was chewy and sticky in texture.More

Shortly after we were seated, they served us a plate of snacks consisting of sliced cucumber and fungus. They were crunchy and chewy, appetizing as well. Stir fried pork ribs in fresh orange sauce - This dish was a pleasant surprise, as it was done...nicely. Pork ribs were cooked till juicy and chewy, with strong orange taste as it absorbed the essence of the orange sauce. Half poached and half pan-fried threadfin - The soup was tasty and flavourful, with slight sour taste. Fish was cooked till soft and smooth, able to taste the freshness. Red date jelly with lotus seeds - This dessert was very fragrant, able to smell red date from afar. It was served hot, chewy and with lotus seeds in it.More

Chiu Chow food plus some Cantonese. The decor is nice, the staff are polite and their clothing is clean. They don't throw the cutlery down in front of you like many Chinese restaurants. The food was prompt to arrive, it was as ordered, the dim...sum was tasty and there was a good variety. It was hot and looked appealing. Prices were actually cheaper than I had expected and all in all, for lunch; I thought this restaurant represented very good value for money. Definitely one to return to, and regularly.More

Moon Lok Chiu Chow is located in Tung Chung Citygate outlets, covers a range of Chiu Chow cuisines, the dishes are true to the traditional flavour and style. Stewed Abalone and Goose Web in Oyster Sauce (HK$150) The stewed 6-head Abalone with Goose web is...on special price at only HK$150, a 50% discount on the menu price. The goose web can be substituted with Sea Cucumber at HK$220. Soy Goose Meat Platter (HK$128) Soy goose is a quintessential Chiu Chow favourite, the goose meat has a deep savoury taste with a hint of sweetness. The platter also served with pork belly and sliced squid. Pork Tripe Salted-pickled Cabbage Soup (HK$168) The nourishing peppery soup was hearty yet soothing, nutrient rich yet satisfying, the interplay of white peppers and salted pickled cabbage gave a delicate balance of intrigue and warming tranquility. Deep-Fried Shrimp & Crab Meat Ball (HK$140) The crispy fried shrimp and crab meat balls were nicely seasoned and have water chestnuts added for more crunch. Fried Rice with Sliced Chinese Kale, Cured Pork & Sausage (HK$128) The secret ingredients of this fried rice were the cured pork and Chinese sausage, the fat melts in the rice, creating explosions of umami flavour. Golden Pan-Fried Glutinous Rice Cake with Egg (HK$33) The sticky glutinous rice cake is a must eat during CNY, the pan fried rice cake with egg was slightly crispy outside and still pasty inside. Sweetened Chiu Chow Yam, Ginko and Glutinous Rice Dumpling Soup (HK$48) The feasting doesn’t have to end without sweet treats, this sweet soup was a special kind of Chiu Chow sweet delicacy with Chiu Chow Yam and chewy rice dumplings.More

Staying in a nearby hotel and after a big day out we didnt want to go far for dinner. Restaurant looked very good and very busy which we took as a good sign. As we were trying to decide what to order the friendly lady...who seemed in charge started to push us to order, making what I thought were good suggestions. Crispy chicken and fried rice sounded good so we said OK. I have never had such bland food in my life. The rice had no taste at all and whilst the chicken was tender and moist it also had no flavour plus some fried greenery that had no flavour. Tea and peanuts ( i think) were put on the table ( both better than our main meal) which we found later on the bill. Never was it mentioned that they were not included in the meal. The staff rush around so fast that there was never a chance to question the tea and everyone around us had it so we assumed it was part of the meal. $530 for a terrible meal...I wasnt happy.Though there are limited choices in the area.More

I was in Hong Kong for a layover, So I decided to get some dim sum, but was too lazy to go to town Center. So after searching for a place near by. Ohhh boy it did not disappointed. Siu mai and bbq platter was...pretty awesome. Goose was juicy and slightly tenders, just the way I prefer it. Siu mai was of the chart. Service was fast and good. The only negative comment I would say is the pork was slightly too fatty for my liking, however, super tender and full of flavor. would definitely come back if I’m near by.More

This is a fairly new restaurant by the same group of Chiu Chow Pak Lok. The prices of the dishes are quite reasonable. The food quality is upto standard. And one very pleasant surprise is the steamed crab on top of a bed of minced...pork. I highly recommend it but it is pricely at HK$500. However considering the tasty crab I think it is worth it. So if you are visiting the Xiqu Theatre this is a good place to enjoy a meal.More

We ordered the signature Chiu Chow dishes - braised boneless goose breast, the salted boiled half chicken and the fresh hand made fish ball with vegetable casserole. They were very tasty. The boneless goose meat was a very popular dish. It seemed to be the...“must order” menu item. The clientele are a mix of office workers having a large get together, local residents for meet up, and tourists. It is best to get there before the lunch hour rush.More

Food was ok but is overpriced with hidden charges. We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 young children) and we ordered only 1 glass of beer, but were charged HKD60 for tea of 4 pax and HKD24 for snack that were not...served. When asked the waiter just told us that this is standard practice and we could have just drink plain water even if tea was not ordered. It is common sense that children doesn’t not drink tea (just like children does not drink coffee). There are lots of other food choices in CityGate and this restaurant should be avoided if possible.More

We went to this restaurant the other day for lunch attracted by the marinated geese hanging in display window. We ordered two dim sums - fried fish cakes and Chiu Chow dumplings, a pot of fish balls vegetable soup and a plate of sliced marinated...geese (which we cancelled after our dialogue with the waiter.) The waiter asked us if we wanted goose meat for the goose slices. We were taken aback that a plate of sliced marinated goose could be anything other than goose meat??? The waiter said if we wanted goose meat we had to pay $50 extra on top of the listed price of $150 on the menu. The funny feeling told us to cancel the order. The fish cake was tough and cold. The pot of fish ball smelled like a pot of lard. We looked at the pot carefully and found pieces of fried slices of fat. The Chiu Chow dumplings tasted like those you would find in street stalls. We had a feeling the dim sums came from those food factories, not really made by the restaurant kitchen. When the bill came it included 10% service charge. We asked what service customers get if even hand towels or napkins were not provided. The waiter said they were trying to protect the environment and hand towels only given at customers’ request. So we asked for it. The waiter gave us a disposable napkin wrapped in a plastic bag. What environmentalists! Not to mention the price, we felt that the restaurant pays no respect to the common sense of the customers if insult is too strong a word even they appeared to be courteous in greeting them.More
