I guess Ding’s Kitchen starts to serve various more affordable dishes in order to boost its business during the pandemic. Yesterday I went there for lunch with 3 friends. We ordered some dim sums which were all good. The shrimp dumplings were particularly delicious. However,...there’s no steamed rice rolls, which I consider as must-haves for Guangdong dim sums, in the menu. Most dim sums came in 3 pieces but the restaurant wasn’t flexible enough to make 4 for us. Since the selection of dim sum was rather small, we also ordered a yin yang fried rice. It’s the best dish of our meal. The shrimps were very fresh with a very good texture and the thickness of the sauce was just right.More

Ding’s Kitchen is a very popular Chinese restaurant owned by celebrity chef Ding Ye (aka Grandpa Ding). Grandpa Ding has been famous as a Kung Fu actor for most of his life, but his recent success owes much to his cooking show “Grandpa’s Kitchen”. Ding’s...Kitchen is his first restaurant project which mainly serves traditional Cantonese dishes for big parties. Due to the recent pandemic measures and dining restrictions, parties of two are welcome to dine at the restaurant for the first time, and can enjoy the limited-time-offer 8-course dinner set at the special promotional price of HK$ 1,280 (original price is HK$ 1,888 for two). The restaurant is spacious, comfortable and has a great view. Service is great. Food is delicious and flavorful. Each dish is carefully presented by the manager, with his detailed explanation on how it has been prepared, just as if Grandpa Ding would do in his show.More

This is kind of like the spirit of California cuisine applied to traditional Hong Kong/Cantonese food: excellent ingredients, carefully sourced, cooked with care.

Took out of town family (party of five) here for dinner. I came here once before. This time I went with one of the $888 dinner sets again. Appetizers (roast pork, abalone, jelly fish, deep fried oyster roll) were average I thought (just like previous...visit). I would like the abalone to have more intense wine flavor. Loved most of the hot entrees. I thought the lemongrass shrimp was average as I could not taste the sweetness in the shrimp and it was not that juicy. The double boiled young pigeon soup was simple but flavorful. I really enjoyed the mild sweetness in the broth. 👍 The pork belly in orange and bean paste sauce was outstanding. We ordered a bowl of rice so that we can wrap the rice using the thinly sliced and flavor packed pork belly. One of my favorites.👍 The beef stir fried w broccoli and fried dough sounded ordinary but it was. The beef was better than the average flank steak cut. The butterfly cut beef was tender and I could tell he didn’t use any tenderizer. The eel in black bean sauce was really tasty and not salty. The meat had a bite to it and was not over cooked. Another highlight of the evening. 👍 The chicken broth for the cabbage had a strong fragrant of “jinjua” ham. The clay baked “beggar’s” chicken wrapped in lotus leaves was outstanding. It was extremely juicy and was just the right timing. Baked for two hours then sat for another 30 mins. The mud was previously used for wine making so the wine aroma and the earthiness slowly infused into the chicken.👍 The egg noodle was house made. Got really good texture to it. The fish maw was of good size and it was tender (not too soft). Ambience - we were seated in the room with the horses as the backdrop. Quite nice with view of a Causeway Bay. Service - excellent! Server took the time to explain every dish. Manager constantly checked the tables to ensure quality service. Chef Ding was very personable and greeted every table.More

I went with some friends for dinner at the Ding's Club in Central. The decoration is quite nice with a huge chandelier in the centre of the room. The food however is a bit disappointing. Rather oily to my liking. The taste of the Chinese...olive spare ribs is yummy but there's more fat than meat in the ribs! The prawns in garlic is rather nice.More

Great foods and comfy environments. The chicken was so tender and juicy. It was the best chicken that I ever have so far. The staffs were professional and provided explanations of every dishes when serving. Excellent place to have a gathering with friends.

Dinner for two ran over 2000 Hong Kong dollars without any alcoholic drinks. Set menu where the waiters come to your table and explain the special way they prepare each of the dishes while they were served. Near the end of the meal the waiters...forgot to do this for a couple of dishes until prompted. Also poured hot water instead of cold water for me despite the different type of glasses indicating what my eating partner and I were drinking. In the middle of the meal the chef who apparently is a celebrity comes out to ask you how the meal is going and you get a photo op with him. Even if you are in the middle of eating a dish you need to drop everything and take the picture with him. While it was interesting to hear how the dishes were prepared I didn't think this restaurant distinguished itself from regular Chinese fare. Would maybe rank the food 3 stars but the service and the high price tag drops this one to 1 star. In my opinion much better places to eat in Hong Kong which provide better value and service.More
