Kubrick is an artsy bookshop and cafe located Public Square in Yau Ma Tei. They are located in the Prosperous Garden area just next to the Broadway Cinematheque. Kubrick has been around for over 20 years now, offering a relaxing place to enjoy a cup of coffee or light meal while reading a book. Opening hours are 11.30am to 10pm daily.
Books are mostly in Chinese but they have English titles as well. The cafe serves up a fairly typical menu of western cafe dishes and counter desserts. They do pretty good coffee as well.
During a recent visit, I enjoyed a cup of hand-drip Indonesia coffee along with a slice of NY style cheesecake. The coffee was pretty good, a nicely brewed cup of black. The cheesecake was better than I expected. Texture was smooth and creamy with sweet graham cracker style crust. Served with citrusy whipped cream that added a tang, this was a very good dessert.
Overall, Kubrick is a neat place to visit in Yau Ma Tei. Service at the cafe can be a bit slow when they are busy but they do nice coffee and make for a good place to just chill and read a book.

This restaurant/ bookstore has been supporting various social causes in Hong Kong over the years, such as environmental protection and the promotion of local produce. In the bookstore, one can find books about the protest and other topics as well as some very high quality magazines that may not be available in some chain bookstores in Hong Kong.
Their food looks like nothing fancy but it's actually tasty as they use fresh ingredients. Their carrot cake is the best I have had in Hong Kong so far.
It's also one of the few cafes in Kowloon on the ground floor, with large windows facing a little square, away from traffic.

I visited the shop in Cityplaza, Tai Koo Shing. I could see the section where books will be displayed is still being prepared. I ordered a cheese pizza - not expecting much from it but was pleasantly surprised that it is served piping hot and yummy. The dough is thin and crisp (like a biscuit) - I usually like the chewy thick crusty types but this one was still good. Will visit again when the book area is done up. They do serve set lunches, coffee and tea.

A fantastic experience. Lovers of art movies and offbeat books will love this place. The beverages were well made and the cakes delicate and tasty. My daughter enjoyed herself tremendously. Staff were friendly and warm.

I was working nearby and would like to take an annual leave for a walk of the old Yau Ma Tei District. I was very happy to enjoy a cup of coffee with music in this cafe shop. Everything in affordable price.

Staff was friendly and it could be a nice cafe, but based on the rules, they take the attitude of limiting the time you spend there, which is kinda bad and makes me think they just want you to spend your money and get out of there. A more welcoming attitude goes a long way. Also, no wifi for customers. This is not the seventeenth century - I'm not writing poetry by hand. It would be nice to be able to check my email, and maybe write a bit, but some cafes make this sound like a crime. Not for me.

Very pleasant community-oriented cafe+bookstore with great coffee and decent food selection. Attached to the best movie theater in Hong Kong. Friendly service, no WiFi, no decaf, no soy milk, but some power sockets and lots of people with laptops tethering from smartphones.

A good place to chill and hang out with the cinema next door and literally a book shop inside the cafe itself. Decent selection of food ranging from pasta, burger, fries, salad. Sometimes, there's even artworks exhibited on the wall or a video being played. Could get a little crowded though so I recommend going early.

I arrived at Broadway Cinémathèque about half an hour before the showtime of the movie I wanted to see. So I stopped by Kubrick Cafe for a piece of carrot cake. It tasted alright but was a little too dry for my taste.
Some customers had savoury dishes which looked enticing. I may come back to try one of those.

Very rude manager. Went there abit early, wasn’t welcomed at all. Went back after the opening hour, was still locked outside and the staff told me to go back later as they are hosting a private event. They didn’t bother to tell me the very first time, and clearly there were plenty of space inside. If you want to be treated rudely then be their guest!

No WiFi so don't come looking to do any work while here. It's a neat concept attached to a small cinema and bookstore. Some great quality coffee and the food was pretty good as well. We ordered the quinoa salad and prosciutto sandwich (cheap on the meat) but overall a cool place to relax and read a book. Prices were a bit high but to be expected in this part of town.

This place calls for patience. Not that they are slow. No, it is just busy and sometimes you need time to get a table. People are very friendly and helpful though and it is possible to reshuffle tables and chairs. The food and coffee is very good and a combination of western and Chinese. A crossover if you like. There is s bookshop and health shop attached and also the Broadway Cinematheque with film and poster kiosk. Pretty impressive selection of art house posters and films.
Be aware You can spent hours here.
If you are local you should get a member card and enjoy discounts on food, books, films, posters and the cinema.

What do you get when you combine a bookstore with a coffeeshop? That's right: Kubrick Cafe! A nice place to hang out, browse the bookselection and have something to eat/drink. The food is rather good and the selection too. The accept creditcards. There are no restrooms, but there is a McDonald's next door that does restrooms.

its ironic that the cinematheque doesnt have a proper listing but the cafe does. The cafe is decent but the real real deal is whe nyou visit the cinema and the accompanying store.
I managed to find a DVD for the IPCRESS FILES, an old michael caine spy movie.. that have been searching for sometime now. Also, the posters on display for sale were out of the world.
All this will obviously make you very hungry and thirsty.. you can then go to the cafe, have a nice cool drink, eat a muffin and relax. The cafe also has an art shop and stationery section which is pretty nice.
Overall - a very nice place if you are a movie buff. by the way the entire place started off in 2001.. hence the kubrick reference. The posters are pretty expensive though.

Jordan / Yau Ma Tei
The Jordan and Yau Ma Tei neighbourhood is where you will find some of the more authentic areas of Hong Kong. Not as glamourous or busy as its neighbours Mong Kok to the north or Tsim Sha Tsui to the south, Yau Ma Tei is often mistakenly overlooked by visitors on their trips to Hong Kong. Exploring parts of this area makes you feel like you’ve been transported back in time. A large part of the neighbourhood draws from the rich history of Temple Street, stretching from Jordan to Yau Ma Tei, where a mix of dai pai dongs (outdoor restaurants), market stalls, fortune tellers and old karaoke bars bring out the history and culture of the area. The neighbourhood is a showcase of diversity – different ethnicities, cultures, and a mix of old and new.
