Went here for lunch. It is pretty busy and decor is minimal. But you know the food is fresh as the kitchen is just churning out the dim sum. The service is very efficient and not pretentious. You get in and get out. But really...homey atmosphere. Food is excellent and not expensive. Great fun for tourist to experience the vibe of local Hong Kong lifestyle. They have some great rice dishes for one person that is under HKD$20.More

Because of the pandemic, we ordered dim sum for take-out. The food was excellent and the price was lower than some of the other dim sum places. Not to be missed are the Har Gow (shrimp dumpling), the BBQ pork bun, cheung fun (BBQ pork...rice roll), beef balls, and bean curd roll. The texture of the pork congee was good but could use some more salt. Considering how much the meal cost, it was well worth it.More

This was the first dim sum place we tried as it was walking distance from our hotel and loved the BBQ pork buns. Some of the other dishes were just okay. We tried other dim sum places (ie. Maxims) for 3 or 4x the cost,...but kept coming back to Tim Ho Wan's because of the exceptional value for the quality. By our third visit, we had our favorites down. Just don't expect much in the way of service--it's horrible. The ladies can be super rude.More

Great fresh and delicious Dim Sum. Menu in English and Cantonese. Inexpensive, as well. Everyone was very friendly. I was only westerner in the restaurant. Couldn’t be more comfortable. Will go back.

Baked BBQ Buns, Cheong Fun w/Pork Liver, Har Gow ...... It's all here and it's all fantastic. The service is fine- normal for this type of restaurant. A little brusque and not real helpful. Who cares! The food is amazing. And don't forget to bring...cash!More

Hotel staff advised us to try this when they saw us researching another similar establishment on our laptop. It was a lunchtime visit and the place was 75% full, no queues. We were immediately sat at a table. When we finally realised how to order...- the form was on our table but no pen, it was only when a pen was thrust our way we realised we needed to complete the form - we opted for the famed BBQ buns, fried dumplings with shrimp and curd been and shrimp spring roll. There were only two of us but it took nearly 40 minutes from the first dish (bbq buns) to the last. With only 3 dishes I thought we may at least get them together, but no. The buns, then wait, the spring roll and then wait some more. Finally the dumplings. It was almost as if the chef was cooking the menu in parts. Everyone having buns got them at the same time. Next came the ginger cake - if you didn't order that you had to wait for the next dish to be cooked. I guess our dishes were probably 1st, 5th and last. Pretty poor. The table next to us seemed to get better with having a table of food almost all the time. The buns were ok. I actually didn't like how sweet they were, sickly almost. But the bun texture was nice and once you got your taste buds around the sweetness of the inner it was ok. The fried dumplings were vile. They were uncooked and the raw batter was wrapped around what should and perhaps was a tasty filling. I tried to remove the filling but couldn't. I have ranked the value at 2 stars merely because you can't rate something that wasn't good. It was cheap. But just because something is cheap doesn't mean it can be rubbish.More

I’ve read and heard a lot about Tim Ho Wan in my travels and was very keen to check out something with a michelin star in Hong Kong. I was fortunate to be in the area and saw that it opened at 10am, perfect for...a cheeky Dim Sum Breakfast. I walked the 20 or so minutes from where I was located and saw even at quarter to ten there was a queue nearly around the block. I claimed my place in the queue which moved very quickly. Once inside I was handed a card and chose a substantial smorgasboard of Dim Sum. It came out rapidly and I was blown away. The different offal dishes in rice noodle were my favourite by far but the prawn steamed dumpling and the prawn and pork dumpling were also incredible. The odd standout dish was the prawn and vegetable dumpling in a bean curd wrapper, they were crunchy, delicious and insanely moreish. I didn’t try the pork buns as I’m not a pork bun guy but when I saw the people next to me order some I felt non-buyers remorse. I was extremely full after my journey and only spent around $220 HKD, such incredible value for such (justifiably) award winning food!More

Busy restaurant. Service was curt and minimal. The char siew bun was definitely better than all that I've tasted elsewhere! Overall, quality of food was high. Just ignore the service and ambience if you must have your dim sum.

I’ve had Tim Ho Wan in a few different cities but the taste in HK is still the best. And more affordable than other cities, too.

Tim Ho Wan has several locations across Hong Kong, but their North Point (Causeway Bay) location is said to be the best of them all, which is the one we ate at. We arrived 15 minutes before opening, as I heard the wait times can...be crazy. There were 20 or so lining up when we did, and we got seated immediately. Their most famous dish is their cha siu bao (BBQ pork bun), it is a must-order and anything with shrimp was a highlight. It was so fresh and juicy.More

Dim sum was awful, from 4 dishes I ordered , 2 of dishes with shrimp on them was bad, my guess is the shrimps was rotten because of its smell. When we want to pay the bill, they said they only take CASH, no Credit...Cards, no Octopus, well...sure it's ok... as long as you have the change ,right? but no ...this restaurant doesn't have the change.... unbelievable...my bill is around 100 ,and I give the cashier 1000 ( all my Hong Kong dollars in my wallet are thousands ) even I showed her all... after some long wait and watching her rude unpleasant face and swearing , finally she gives me the change. It's so inappropriate, of all we are guests and customers.....and it is so ridiculous, how come a restaurant like this get a Michelin star? Not the food and especially not the service, I will never return to this place like ever and it's hard for me to trust those Michelin stars again, so dissapointing.More

Let's start with the char siu bao; they are possibly the sweetest thing I've ever eaten but you should definitely try them! We really enjoyed a number of other dishes on the menu including the beef brisket. The food is excellent value, probably averaging HK$35...per dish. Ordering is done by handing over a tick box menu that is available in English to the waiter so language problems are easily avoided. Service is brisk but that's to be expected and children are welcome. A bustling atmosphere, good food, amazing value - we came back for more and tried the Central branch too.More

We were staying nearby at the Vic hotel and popped in at 8.30pm for a light dinner. We ordered 4 dishes and had some tea. The bill was only $100! The dim sum was delicious and fresh. The prawn dumplings were fab! We found the...bbq pork buns a little sweet for our taste. Service was swift and efficient.More
