Pretty disappointing service being that it was pretty empty. Ordered the guacamole and wasn’t sure why it had sour cream in it... Wouldn’t recommend it.

Whilst we did not eat here, we did enjoy their craft beer and the service from the wait staff (whose English we found to be better than most other restaurants). The owner gave us directions to a big shopping centre and ordered us a cab...to get there.More

Today, I went back to have dinner at Chili Peppers restaurant. I ordered a generic meal: 3 tacos with my choice of fillings: South Carolina pulled pork, Texas BBQ beef brisket and chorizo. This was a simple order and the waitress, who is also the...manager, checked to make sure that these were available and she told me they were. Let me digress to my last visit there for breakfast. It was terrible! I wrote to the owner 3 times and never got any response! The pancakes, which I was told by the owner, were made from batter that was mixed as orders were made, had so much sugar in them that they were burnt. Yes, they were black on BOTH SIDES! Well, this did not serve the reputation of pancakes at all. Also, they only provided jam (strawberry) and honey. One can buy molasses here in Bishkek, but not maple syrup, and the owner personally told me that they had “syrup” for their pancakes. A real let-down! I ordered the two-egg platter, which was to include hashed brown potatoes and bacon and, well, they had neither of those to go with it. This was a Saturday! Also, the eggs, which I ordered, over medium, came to me as a large crescent moon as they were cooked in a large skillet (a no-no in the restaurant industry) as well as were cooked in vegetable oil (not in clarified butter, another industry standard) and they tried to make it over medium by sloshing this oil over the eggs! The egg were inedible as were the pancakes. I sent back my plates and the manager never took note that I was NOT eating this food! I also ordered their “biscuits and gravy.” This, too, was a disaster. The gravy was like a thick patty and the biscuit was also hard and tough. It looked nothing like the picture on the menu! 3 out of three dishes were less than acceptable and the latte that I ordered was tepid and without flavor. ; This meal was so bad that I ordered a beer so that I could be calm about it. The manager NEVER looked at the plates that I was returning to the kitchen with less than a bite or so missing from each dish. When it came time to pay the bill, I only paid for the beer and then she accused me of stealing and wanting to get a “free meal”! wrote to the owner via his web site 3 times and never got an answer. I also did not write this review hoping that we could talk about this: it never happened! So, back to today’s visit. I know that their tacos are great, which is why I ordered them. I ordered three kinds of tacos: Texas beef brisket, South Carolina pulled pork and chorizo. Of a sudden, the same manager who was there for that breakfast, told me that I had to pay before I would receive my dinner because I refused to pay for that horrific breakfast months before.. I told her that I am ordering what is normally a great dish and that there is no problem. I also stated that, if she wants this to happen, something that she does not demand other customers to do, that I will leave the restaurant immediately. She relented, served me a beer and placed my order. I felt that everything was going well at that point. However, I was wrong! When my plate that was supposed to have three different types of tacos on it (as offered in the menu itself), it only contained ONE kind of filling and, of course, after eating the first one (which was the BBQ brisket: dry and no BBQ flavor) and tasting the second, I noticed that they were the same. Then I looked at the filling in the third one and it, too, was the same. I sent the plate back to the kitchen immediately, saying, again, what I had ordered and asking that the other two be replaced accordingly. So, I only ate one of the 3 tacos and disassembled the other two to learn this. They made NO effort to make my order correct. Also, per a deleted post, I praised their flour tortilla shells as they were thinner. This time, they were very thick, again, as they were the first time that I was there. Disappointing. The manager set me up! Her grudge was further collaborated by the owner’s wife, who commented that I had not paid for that breakfast. If you look at my 2 other reviews of Chili Peppers, (oops, I just saw the MY MORE POSITIVE REVIEW OF THIS RESTAURANT WAS DELETED), you will see that I was more than fair. However, this time, there was no way to deal with people who cannot be business-like or professional. I asked for the owner, Mario, to whom I had written to 3 times before and never got a response. They told me that he was in his office and asked for him. 15 minutes went by and no one said a word to me about my request to talk with him. His wife then told me, after I asked her where he was, that he was in a “meeting” and also chided me for not paying for that breakfast. I demanded to talk with Mario, which, of course was denied. I was then told to leave and to never come back by the owner’s wife and I paid for the 2 beers that I drank and did not pay for the meal. This is horrific at best. Please, do not go there! It is not worth the trouble. We trust restaurant owners to run a business that SERVES its customers and not the other way around.More

Been there for lunch with a couple of friends, service is literally none existing and quiet some dishes are not available. Wait staff's English is pretty poor and being honest, food was not that great neither, been in Mexico a few times, not even to...compare. Also not really sure what to think about a cat mingling around in an restaurant where food is served (I love cats but not where I eat).....that is obviously a hygiene matter. Coffee poor too, taste like water, mineral & coke was warm and tea luke warm - rest - all rather below average and quite some work to do there I would say.......there are better places in Bishkek!More

It's difficult to find decent Mexican food in Central Asia, so Chill Peppers is definitely appreciated. The food is good, but not great. We ordered burritos, chimichangas, tacos, potato skins, and empanadas. The potato skins were definitely the highlight - they even came with crispy...bacon! Unfortunately the salsa that was served with each meal was a bit bland, the tomatoes didn't look particularly fresh. Not a big deal, but something that could be improved. We would definitely eat here again, when we're next in Bishkek.More

Was expecting much better. The nicest thing was the free nachos and salsa. Nachos were quite thin, salsa was runny, but it was the nicest thing. Taco with smoked pulled pork - pork had no smokiness and it was really dry. Seems to me it...was pulled weeks ago. Enchilada with cheese and smoked Texas brisket - brisket was dry and cheese was non existent. The enchilada overall was quite dry. The enchilada came with shredded dry lettuce, with no dressing. Seems like the restaurant likes serving dry food, like a Mexican desert. Cheese sticks were greasy and lack luster. The restaurant was generous, I got a glass of Georgian white wine. Wine was not great (not the restaurants fault because they don't make it, or the restaurants fault for selecting it) and the wine was served at room temperature. It was free, but I wish it was not served in the first place. The menu is far too extensive, which probably explains the sub-standard. One of the reason for going there was to try the jalapeno poppers - but they didn't have it. But they had jalapenos. Whats the excuse? Bottle Arpa beer was good. If I was to ever go back, it would be for the free nachos/salsa and reasonably priced beer.More

I want to like it because Bishkek needs Tex-Mex! So far I've been there three times in person and once for takeout. Each time the waitstaff had trouble with getting the order right (both in English and in Russian) and every time the food was...not what I expected from the menu. Last time I ordered a shrimp taco and the shrimp came boiled instead of breaded and fried. Even after sending it back, it still was not what was promised on the menu and was very different from the pictures on the menu.More

I walked into the place one day and talked with Mario and we had a LONG discussion about his vision and what he is trying to do there. I was served a basked of tortilla chips and some salsa automatically as does everyone who walks...in. The tortilla chips are baked and made with white flour and some spices added to them. To me, the chips were "funky" in flavor and the texture was not at all to my liking. Then, I was given the "generic" salsa that had NO pizzaz and was almost like eating plain tomatoes. Later, I learned that they make their own hot sauce; however, there was not a bottle of this sauce at my table. When it was pointed out and I was only one of three tables being served at the time, they should have given me a bottle and said, "Have at it!" I tell you, this hot sauce is wonderful! I had never seen brown hot sauce before; yet, the flavor made up for that little esthetic chink. I did not eat many of the chips and there were a LOT of them there! So, it was on to my main course: 3 tacos, the way that you want them! They offer these 5 choices: Grilled Chicken, Texas Smoked Beef Brisket, Slow Cooked Lamb, Carolina Pulled Pork or Chorizo. That night, they didn't have the Texas Brisket,which I wanted; so, I had the Chorizo, Slow Cooked Lamb and Carolina Pulled Pork. I sort of tried to figure out their power in terms of the chili heat and ate them from the lamb to the chorizo. Here is a breakdown of each one: A. The lamb was actually a lot more spicy than I thought that it would be. However, the tenderness of the lamb, as well as a lack of fat and gristle, were augmented by the flavors that were well-meshed and were more than a joy to the palate. I should have chosen another one to be first and that leads us to the . . . B. Carolina Pulled Pork. This was well-cooked, tender pulled pork and, to be honest, I would never have thought about a taco with sweet pork. However, when blended with the Chili Peppers style chilis, it was wonderful and, for me, a very new experience with a taco, Yes, I also learn when I go out to eat! I would love to have a mess of that pork and heat in a dish and just pluck it out to put on crackers or baguettes or ANYTHING! I love when my own sense of what foods are and should be are challenged. This leads us to the final culprit of the Tres Tacos . . . . C. The Chorizo Taco is very good and has a lot of red peppers in it and, as I suspected, based upon my inner scale: this IS the HOTTEST of all three of them. My eyes watered, I drank more beer to cut the heat and my stomache was yelling, "Eat it all! Eat it all!" with a few expletives. My mouth, like a dragon, was roaring with that great flavor and the full feeling that my palate was going to explode in a food climax that I had not had before. What a way to finish the main course and, yes, I actually ate amost ALL of the Tres Tacos, a very rare event for me. So, what did I do next? I ate some MORE! Typical American as I was that night and feeling like I was home again, I ordered their cheesecake. They make it! So, I ate it and it came unadorned with strawberries, chocolate syrup, a mole sauce or all three! I hate to kill a cheesecake with other things: I want to just taste the cheesecake. It was, to my surprise, my favorite kind, a New York Cheesecake that has a heavy cake-like texture and just fills your mouth with that cream cheese flavor. One thing that was wrong about it was the graham-cracker crust: it was too thick and had way too much butter in it, making it come out as mushy and detracted from the filling. I advised that they makd a thinner crust with a LOT less butter and I hope that, when I go back, it shall be so. However, just the filling was worth the money . . . . . So, what is my rating? Probably more than a four, but not enough for a 5 and only for those considerations which I stated above. Service was great. The food was mostly great. I had a very good evening and, it WAS all on video tape, which got lost due to a hard drive crash! I had a LOT of video of this meal . . . . . I will revisit this meal again, with a friend to eat half or more of it, AND reshoot the whole thing for you in the near future. My final words: "Worth it! " Take care.More

This is as close to Mexican-American as can be found on this side of the world. Tacos and hamburger are my favorite orders do far. Quesadillas are good as well.

Centrally located, easy to access. Quiet. Service staff is nice and polite. Prices are affordable. Food is not bad.
