Unexpected and amazing! Shared 8 dishes, and all were unique in their flavors. From smoked, to sweet, to savory. Baba ghannouge fire roasted eggplant with fresh lemon citrus was best I have ever had. Same with the Dolmades. Brussels and cauliflower both roasted and flavored...with garlic yogurt and herbed tahini. Scallops and branzino perfectly cooked. Took a chance on the octopus santorini, grilled with a hint of smoke, and could have eaten a whole other order even as full as we were. And throw on the lamb kabob to top it off. Looking forward to coming to town again to try even more options!More

As a long-time admirer of Chef Andres's humanitarian efforts, I was looking forward to trying one of his restaurants. A visit to DC provided that opportunity. All of the food was excellent - having a mezze meal with five others meant the chance to have...more than a taste of different foods. The service was equally excellent.More

I had really been looking forward to returning to the Zaytinya in DC since the last time I was there 15 years ago. The food is fantastic. However the service was horrible from the moment we stepped in and the moment we left. I feel...badly, it's obvious they're extremely understaffed and the staff they have is in terrible need of better training. 20 min wait to be seated with a reservation. Waited forever for anybody to acknowledge us or take our order. Ordered wine came back 20 minutes later and it was the wrong wine and the corrected wine took another 10 to 15 minutes. I asked for the lamb to be done medium rare and still pink and it was very well done. Hummus and Babaganoush were brought with no bread. We made it known that we were allergic to shrimp and did not want that in our Seafood and yet shrimp was brought to the table. After the main courses were taken away I had to ask for the check after 20 minutes and the dessert was brought like they completely forgot it was an afterthought. They have a poster up saying that you will get a $250 credit towards meals at the Zaytinya if you refer staff. I really hope they can find the staff that they need and train them because the food here is fantastic.More

Overall 4.5. The restaurant week menu was a great deal, we got a huge amount of food and all of it was solid. Off the restaurant menu, the eggplant fritters were kind of bland. The babaganoush was very good and the accompanying bread was light...and tasty.More

Food A+ -- small plates and interesting variety. The experience of sharing plates was marvelous. The only downside was a server (very friendly and great) who had far too many tables, and was at times a challtenge getting attention. We were seated outside which was...really nice (large seating area) as the inside restaurant was quite lively (not our preference). Also a circumstantial negative (not in the restaurant's control) of a an adjacent table of fellow diners -- all of whom had especially loud voices that in normal conversation carried over a wide area (I now know many details about their lives!:) ). All in all though was positive. And, we appreciate the charitable work feeding the hungry around the world, and the culinary artistry of Jose Andres. Also, be sure you see the prices before reserving -- on the high side, but the presentation was terrific. Scallops esp! https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g28970-d481226-r857346571-Zaytinya_by_Jose_Andres-Washington_DC_District_of_Columbia.html#More

Just had a fantastic meal at your Washington branch. The food was delicious and the service outstanding. Water and wine both refilled promptly without asking, our server Jennifer B was knowledgeable and helpful in answering our questions about the dishes.

Great food and service. The different dishes we ate were all tasty. The drinks were refreshing on a warm humid day. We really enjoyed this restaurant and would come here when we are in DC. The bartender was so considerate even with a difficult customer...who I think just wanted water but would order a drink and then not want it.More

My wife and I often visit Turkey and Greece, which means that we have significant experience with those 2 cuisines. Some of the best that we have tasted, however, was while sitting on 9th St. NW in DC at Zaytinya!! The food was simply outstanding....Added to that "outstanding" quality was the personality and professionalism of our server, Kurtis. As my wife remarked, he was delightful! We have a list of "repeat" DC restaurants, and now Zaytinya holds a prominent position on that list!More

Every time I return to Washington, a visit to Zaytinya must be included. There is always an outstanding selection of Middle Eastern wines to enjoy with dining. The tabouleh, fattoush salads and baba ghannouge and hommus appetizers are excellent ways to begin your meal. The...fantastic bread, served throughout your meal, is used for scooping your salads, humus and baba ghannouge, as well as for holding garides me anitho ( grilled shrimp), pieces of octopus santorini, perfectly made falafel, kofte (beef) kebab, adana ( lamb) kebab, as you enjoy delightful spanakorizo (Greek rice) with your tzatziki. If you are still hungry, don’t miss the shish taouk (grilled chicken) and for dessert Turkish coffee chocolate cake and Greek cheesecake. Bravo to Chef Jose Andres for a superb dining experience!More

The food was terrific. I could write an editorial extolling the food. The kebabs were succulent and had the perfect texture and amount of spice. But I was truly impressed by the service. I loved the synergy and positivity of the staff. In particular, Othmane...was one of the best servers I’ve had. His recommendations were spot-on, and I appreciated his attentiveness and congeniality. Thanks for the complimentary apricot and yogurt dessert, boss!More

The decor is sophisticated but not fussy. But honestly it could have been a dive I wouldn’t have cared. The food is amazing. The homemade pita alone are worth the trip. If you love Mediterranean food, and even if you think you don’t, you have to...come here. My favorite was the Brussel sprouts so crispy and tangy and perfect. Also the taziki was better then any I’ve ever had. You really can’t go wrong. Also the prices are extremely reasonable. Just goMore
