Established in 1856, the Old Ebbitt Grill was a favorite of Presidents Grant, Cleveland, Harding, and Theodore Roosevelt. The restaurant's decor is comprised of a Beaux-Arts facade, mahogany and velvet booths, and bars set in marble, brass, and beveled glass. Old Ebbitt serves a diverse selection of food including steaks, seafood, pasta, sandwiches, and also features an Oyster Bar with oysters form both coasts. Open early for breakfast and weekend brunch, and serving lunch, dinner and a late-night menu. Private and semi-private dining rooms including a rooftop overlooking the monuments and The White House.
As one of the only spots where you can get a reservation late at night in DC during the COVID-19 pandemic (at least when indoor dining is allowed), Old Ebbitt Grill is a guaranteed win for service and delicious food. We enjoy ourselves every time...we come here, and will continue to dine here at least 2-3 times per year.
The late night happy hour is the best!More
Make no mistake, this place is not a hidden gem or a new high-rated restaurant. This place is an institution and this box is definitely worth ticking when you visit DC. Highly professional service, especially in these COVID times (fever taken, phone number registered, ample...space between tables, staff with masks and gloves). The food is classic American, of course, but the products are top quality and prepared to the perfection... With a French touch: It's the American version the French brasserie and you'll love it.More
We were fortunate enough to tour the White house during Christmas and wanted to top off the evening with another incredible memory. We decided to try the grill. The wait was 40 minutes, which I'm guessing for a Saturday night was short. (The do take...reservations by the way). We were seated in the back bar area and ordered a couple drinks. The servers were very attentive and we never once had to look for them. I had a sandwich and my bride ordered the salmon. Both were as good as advertised. As good as the food and service are, the real treat here is the atmosphere and history. As the saying goes, you NEVER know who you're going to see at the grill!More
literally one of the best dining experiences we have had in a very long time. we made early reservations for dinner but knew we had to kill two hours(tickets to white house xmas light walking tour.) our waitress was absolutely delightful. no rushing, recommended great...drinks, appetizers, etc and never, ever was obtrusive. drinks were superlative, the food was great, and the vibe was old school. and best part not crazy expensive. would absolutely a million times over go here again. just fantastic.More
Great to be able to stop here for Dinner. Initially just popped in for drinks but ended up staying for Dinner. Great atmosphere and vibe, lots of history and was a pleasure to be able to visit. 100% Recommend
I came in for a quick bite before heading out to the airport.
I liked everything about the place.
Beautiful old building, great interior and atmosphere, well thought-through decorations - this place appealed to me straight away.
I went for what I thought to be...a fastest fare - bacon burger. The food came exactly when the barman/my server said it would. The meat was cooked exactly to the doneness I asked for, the cheese, lettuce, tomato and pickle were tasty and combined into a really great burger. The fries were also great - crispy on the outside while soft on the inside, not soggy, not overdone.
The meal was tasty and filling - just what I needed.
The personnel was great as well, starting with the hostess, who proactively asked me if I need to be seated close to an outlet (she noticed I was charging my phone using an external power bank and wanted to help out). My server/barman was also very professional, attentive, prompt and friendly - thank you, Mike. The entire staff was serious about the necessary COVID-19 precautions and it was surely appreciated.
The only regret I have is that I didn’t have more time to hang around and try other items from their menu.
Well, something to look forward to the next time - I’ll be back!More
I order lunch to go from time to time and the service and food is always great. One time they forgot to place my order but Yuseff had turned it around really quickly and I was happy with resolution. I wish more restaurants learned from...them.More
