Mediocre. There are excellent Ethiopian restaurants within a mile - Habesha on U Street and Latena in Columbia Heights. Food here is meant to cater to the drunk/high crowd in Adam’s Morgan where poorly made food served in large portions seems to be what sells.

My husband and I stopped in for dinner. We both enjoyed our meals very much, but the ribs on my husband’s meat choice with his meal was really just bone. My vegetarian option was good & the portions were average for the price. The house...white wine was a pleasant surprise. The house red, not so much. Service was a bit slow but there seemed to not be enough staff to cover everything. Overall, nice dinner.More

We went to Zenebech based on positive, and usually reilable, TA and Google reviews. I was disappointed. We ordered the following: Stuffed Jalapeno: Uninspired presentation with three stuffed jalopenos placed on a plate with a piece of inera. Although we're accustomed to eating very spicy...East Asian and Caribbean dishes, these were too hot for us! $5. Lentil Sambusa: Medium sized, good. $3 Mehaberawi: Nice presentation. Good meat and vegetable selection. The chicken was very, very dry. Large enough serving to share for 4 people if you add Tibs. $29 Tibs: Well done, but very small portion, especially given a $17 price tag. Spiced Tea: Nice addition to the meal. A small pot was $6. Despite a nearly empty restaurant at 1330, our server was disinterested and remote. Neither the fool quality nor the service at Zenebech warrant a return visit. Given the lack of recent reviews, as well as the paucity of customers at lunch, I suspect others have reached a similar conclusion.More

Zenebech has a large menu with a lot of options. I devoured a plate of beef, green beans and lentils with the traditional spongy bread. Prices are pretty low for a DC restaurant with table service.

So hungry. We had long waits at a few other picks before settling on this spot. There were over 22 Ethiopian restaurant options, that’s outstanding. We ordered the Doro wot and 10 veggies and homemade injera, stuffed jalapeño and a Ethiopian spiced tea. The spiced...tea is aromatic and smells of cinnamon, it’s not overwhelming, but good. The stuffed jalapeño is hot as heck, quite a bit of seeds left in it, whew. The doro wot chicken cubes tastes good, the chicken is a bit hard and maybe overcooked, not tender at all. I don’t get how it could be so hard when the sauce is like a stew, it’s almost as hard as jerky. The spicy red lentil as usual is my favorite of all of our veggies. The sauces weren’t bad. The spinach, collard greens, green beans, chick peas, red beet, split peas, cabbage, carrots and potatoes and salad were all decent. Nothing really stood out for me. The red lentil was the only one o would have eaten more of, but it too wasn’t out of this world. The service was good.More

Ordered a gluten free meal (because of a serious allergy) and halfway through eating my meal, was informed that part of it was, in fact, pure wheat. And, to add insult to injury, my bill wasn’t adjusted at all. Used to love this place, but...after getting incredibly sick and paying to do so, will never eat here again.More

This wonderful, family-owned Ethiopian restaurant is absolutely fabulous. It was pretty busy when we ate here, and for good reason - their food is outstanding. If you're new to Ethiopian food, make sure to ask your waiter for explanations of the different foods, as they...don't automatically do that. I loved their veggie sambusa appetizer. The best thing to do with entrees is to order one or two and to share with people at your table. We ordered two Mehaberawis (veggie and meat combo) so we could sample different foods, and were well pleased. The key wot and the alicha wot are both wonderful. Prices are very reasonable. Staff were a bit harried due to how busy this place was, so maybe I'll come back one day once things have settled down.More

This is a mom and pops restaurant with amazing food. Although they were a little busy and I wish I had a more thorough introduction to the cuisine -I think we had a new staff member that later on was replaced by a senior one-;...the amazing new flavors opened up a understanding of the North Eastern African cuisine. We had individual dishes (3 different choices each), I feel we could have split a sampler too. In the end, this is a meal to be shared, no need for cuttlery since the delicious injera bread works as a plate and tool to scoop and eat. The honey wine was a perfect pair for the symphony of flavors presented (also an ingredient on the lentil dish I adored): our favorites were the lega tibs and keye wot. I can wait to find a local Ethiopian restaurant, but I am not sure if it will measure up. Funny side note, I had an interesting reaction after, that reminded me of when I eat asparagus ‍¯\_(ツ)_/¯ More

Very nice atmosphere, and attentive staff. The food is delicious, and very reasonably priced ($54 for two, with two drinks each, including tip). The sonic level is very comfortable given our 60+ years old ears. The booths are very comfortable, there are also two-seat tables...with chairs. Large bar in a separate room, with full range on offer.More

Had eaten at Zenebech a number of years ago and wasn’t very impressed but went back after seeing it was in the BIB list. Total perplexed about how that happened. Love Ethiopian food but this was just not anything special. The meat dishes were all...over cooked. The beef was so dry it was hard to eat and the chicken and lamb were only slightly better. The vegetables were, on the other hand, undercooked. The lentils were still hard. The greens were chewy. The only dish not poorly cooked was the salad which wasn’t cooked at all. The spices and seasoning were interesting but many of the dishes were also rather salty. All in all just not good, barely average. The service was friendly and helpful. The general atmosphere kind of bland, more like a diner with touristy Ethiopian artwork. The background music was pleasant. There are better options for Ethiopian food. And I think Michelin must be confused.More
