This place has wonderful fresh oysters, made better recently by offering more traditional dressings of lemon, vinagrette, and cocktail sauce. But they are forever without sufficient cocktail forks. You sell oysters, but customers have to badger you for oyster forks? Today, they just seemed to...give up, and served the oysters with a spoon. How hard is it to get cocktail forks on Amazon? Not very hard.More

This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. We were not disappointed. Atmosphere was truly like being in a French bistro, very charming. I’m not a big wine drinker but they had a Vouvray on the menu and I ordered it, delicious. I had...the Scallops Provencal and they melted in my mouth. My sister had the Trout and was very happy. I had the Profiterole and thought I was in heaven, same with the Creme Brulee. Service was excellent, very happy we went.More

Absolute delicious dishes, all French staples and so hard to chose only one. Onion soup was perfect. All portions are large, ingredients fresh and the staff are ultimate professionals who are attentive and genuine. The restaurant was packed when we left and I can understand...why -- it's a great restaurant for a special meal and worth every cent.More

I loved loved loved this restaurant. From the exterior to the interior, everything exudes a French bistro. The food is to die for. It doesn't only taste delicious and homemade but it looks appetizing. I had an amazing and simple green salad in that light...way that only the French can do. My friends and I also loved the salmon, veal scaloppine and mussels. Our waitress was sweet, helpful and light hearted. This is my type of place. Come here for great food, welcoming service and a feeling you are in Paris.More

There’s almost nothing else to say besides “incredible.” Every single thing our party of four tried was the best [blank] we ever had. The best onion soup, the best fish, the best creme brûlée, the best cocktail— it was truly fantastic. My ideal meal, and...the one I recommend to you, based on my experience there: Onion Soup, Trout (really. It’ll make a fish lover out of a non-believer), and Creme Brûlée. Our server Daniel was also a true highlight. He was enthusiastic, attentive, and knew the menu by heart. Beyond all of that, he was also like a tour guide. He took us through every part of the meal with rich, almost poetic descriptions, and gave us history and meaning about each dish we asked about. He took the time to get to know our tastes before giving recommendations we asked for, and whatever he brought out afterward was spot on. Truly the best meal and service I’ve had in ages, if not ever. Go! For any reason. Reserve your table now, not later.More

They outdoor tables are nice, they have music and the food was amazing. My favorite dish was the mushroom tart, we loved it. Also they have a very good crème brûlée. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Our party of four enjoyed a lovely evening/dinner on Le Diplomate's patio one recent evening. Starting the meal, the cocktails and wines by the glass were quite pleasant/tasty and complemented perfectly the amazing bread basket that the waiter set before us. Next to follow were...the appetizers - steak tartare, tuna tartare, mushroom soup and escargot - all delicious and mouth watering. The mains did not disappoint either as we loved the Coq au vin, the beef bourguignon, the sea bass and the steak au poivre. Everything was delicious, the service was excellent and a great meal was had by all. Comfort (French) cooking at its best.More

Phenomenal attentive service, food is very good... The Bloody Mary needs an SUBSTANTIAL complete overhaul though. (I wanted a DRINK, not 2 sips) the WAIT speaks for itself... Reservations are a M U S T...

I heard a lot of hype about this place and it 100% lived up to it! I had an amazing dinner here with two friends while visiting DC and I think it’s a MUST VISIT when you’re here. The steak frites and duck were absolutely...deliciously and the tuna carpaccio was some of the best I have ever had in my life. On top of that I think it’s a very fairly priced menu which is unusual for such an amazing French bistro. 10/10 recommend and I will definitely be back!!More

One of my favorite restaurants in DC. I’m generally disappointed by restaurant meals, but this was excellent in every aspect. We had a delightful, attentive waiter, even though it was very crowded. As we perused the menu, he brought a basket with a variety of...excellent bread and French butter. Three of us had the steak frites. The steak was perfectly cooked to each person’s preference, and the frites were thin and nicely crisp. Our daughter had the salmon which also very good, and her friend had the ravioli which were light and delicious. For dessert 2 people ordered the creme brûlée which got rave reviews, and my daughter and I split the profiterole which consisted of 3 ice cream filled cream puffs in a row on a bed of sliced banana. They were topped with a thin chocolate strip, and then drizzled with a dark chocolate sauce... absolute heaven!! Since I was the only one drinking wine, I had a small bottle of their palatable house rosé, which he kindly put in an ice bucket for me. Can’t wait to dine here again.More

You don’t need a reservation for the bar. But the restaurant is quite popular, so seating might not be immediately available.

Try calling the restaurant directly ... (202) 332-3333. Our server, Lauren really made our visit special. If she is working I would try to get her to take care of your group.

Same answer as above - a charge per person usually refers to larger parties where the tax is automatically included on the bill
