We went for the celebration feast at Chin Chin as we had recently gotten engaged and this menu felt fitting. We joked about this with our very friendly waiter and upon hearing this news was so congratulatory and gave us a little sparkling wine on...the house which was very sweet of him. We particularly enjoyed the kingfish sashimi, the salmon tartare and the scallops. Towards the end of the meal we were quite defeated so do be warned that this set menu was a lot of food - make sure you come with a big appetite! It was all very good though, would definitely recommend. The only downside was that we did struggle to get the bill after finishing eating. The restaurant does get very busy so definitely book in advance.More
The meals were superb and the service was top notch. My only complaint is that the background music was so load and I had to shout quite loadly to hear my family of 4 at our table
New Years Feast a Fail We thought a extended family dinner at the New Years Feast would be a wonderful way to ring in the new year, however despite paying $160 PP for the Feed Me (they only had 2 options for meals that night...which wasn’t disclosed prior), it was a waste of money and time that left us hungry and disappointed. It was rushed, we felt like they wanted to get people in and out- the next course would come before we had finished the prior, the portions were very small (we even had to ask for more food, they then gave us two tiny bowls of rice for 7 people), and the food was under seasoned and there wasn’t enough food for the money we paid. They wouldn’t accommodate a no spicy option for us (we had an elderly person with us as well), they assured us it was not spicy but when the food came out even with the (two tiny bowls) rice it was too hot- and we are accustomed to heat! The cocktails were very expensive for tiny glasses, with little alcohol content. We have been to chin chin before and enjoyed our meals then, but I don’t think we would ever go back after this. We have paid lesser prices for much better restaurants. We ended up going to another place to eat afterwards.More
The food is well above average, so its worth a visit for sure, but I'm not a big fan of having to waiting for food, let alone 1 hr in a queue. So book early and go. However, though we had to wait , the...staff were very courteous and provided us seating in the bar until our table was ready. They do a great job, all the best.More
The service, atmosphere, food and drink was excellent. I would highly recommend visiting Chin Chin whilst in Melbourne!
We went for a family birthday dinner. 2 barn like tables. Impossible to talk to each other as the music was way too loud. It was like a disco in a restaurant. Ludicrous. The food was good but the whole night was spoiled because the...purpose of getting together was thwarted by inappropriate music. We asked for it to be turned down a little and the manager said no they wouldn't do that because that's the vibe. They could have! It needs to decide if it's a night club a restaurant. Good restaurants encourage socialsing and interacting, not yeling and signing. So go to eat and shout at each other. Mega disappointed. And the dessert, icecream on the group menu, not one each but shared. So half a small bowl of icecream and shared germs. Never again.More
We had the set menu lunch. The food was average and some dishes were dry. The service was below average. Our waitress was at least attentive but clearly disinterested. This place is great for people who know nothing about food and want to pay expensive...prices. I have no issue with paying that sort of price but you have to deliver. This place is nothing but a massive let down.More
Wow this restaurant felt more like a nightclub than a place to eat. Visited as a group of 4 for dinner. The music was ridiculously loud, could not hear our convo at all, i have never experienced anything like this before. Had to shout our...order out to the waitress, service was slapdash, felt like they couldnt be bothered. No smile or pleasantries, did not give us fresh plates or cutlery in between courses. The dining was awful. Barramundi starter which was fishy crispy barramundi skin no actual piece of barramundi. Main pad thai was mediocre and sickly sweet. This was the worst thai dining weve ever had, in short, overpriced and disappointing.More
Pretentious disappointing venue. Ordered a couple of the salads beetroot and cauliflower. Beetroot salad was soggy and drowning in coriander. Cauliflower tasteless, tofu ok really salty. Main of beef massaman curry fatty beef, sauce good no peanuts. Service was unfriendly took away my salad plate...didnt even replace, very inattentive service and felt rushed to get in and out to maximise profit, didnt feel Valued at all. Would not recommend.More
The whole objective of this restaurant is to get you in and out as quickly as possible. 3 starters arrived within 5 minutes of each other. For a table of 8 the main dish was tiny to be shared round. If your in a hurry...it's probably its the restaurant to go to but if its atmosphere and leisurely relaxed meal this is not the place to go to. Without even asking for the bill it was left on the table in the middle of dessert. Staff were so rushed of their feet that pleasantries were few & far between. All I know is there are a lot of better valued high end restaurants out there. I will definitely not return here.More
You certainly need to book, because this place gets really busy. The menu options are excellent and the massaman curry comes highly recommended. The waiters aren’t terribly knowledgable and space on the table can get a little restricted if you order a lot of the...starter dishes. It is expensive, and the cost can rise considerably if you’re not careful. Overall a lovely experience,if you don’t mind a very busy, bustling restaurant, with music and very good Asian dishes (especially the massaman curry). I would definitely return.More
Terrible food. poorest quality. shamefully overpriced. their idea of vegetarian is to remove the meat and charge the same overprice for tiny portions of disgusting food. i suppose if you just want loud music and you’re happy with disgusting food it’d be ok. for me,...never again.More
Terrible! Terrible! No place for vegetarians. We ordered a dish that we were told could be vegetarian. We got a dish with a few green beans, corn cobs and some spices. Dismal. Overpriced! That cost $40. Actual estimated cost if you’d made it yourself. $2
Visited here as a walk-in, as it was totally sold out on a Friday night. Waited 5 min for 2 seats at the bar. Fantastic seats, energized atmosphere....this has a lively loud vibe. As a couple in their 70s, we loved it! Excellent food and...service. Edgy menu with good spicing. Highly recommend.More
