Do not waste your time turning up for food. We tried as adterchecking website it said food served all day. Although there were empty tables we were told to come back in 2 hrs. Don't advertise you do something you clearly don't.
My family visited The Hero after visiting the beach and were greeted very warmly.
We managed to get a good table outside that had great shade so we could enjoy the weather but it melt in the heat!
The food was also brilliant! Great quality...and reasonable prices too. The kids menu is great too.
It felt very covid safe too.
Would recommend visiting if you’re in the area!More
My husband has been for a drink before but the first time for food. He had booked a table for his big birthday which he'd written in the comments and they wished him happy birthday on arrival. We ordered 3 fish and chios and a...steak. I cannot recommend the Hero enough. Food arrived quickly and was what i can only descibe as out of this world. Fish was cooked to perfection as was the steak. Chips were delicious and the service was fantastic. Our new favourite place to eat in NorfolkMore
It is not often somewhere gets everything right but in this case The Hero did. From check in we were welcomed with a smile and lovely chat. We booked for my wife's birthday and have visited many times however never stayed. We stayed in Gunhill...and the room is stunning, clean, spacious and has a lovely feel with a sea view. We ate in the pub in the evening and the food was sensational and service excellent. Following a great nights sleep we went down for breakfast........THE. BEST. BREAKFAST. EVER.!!!
If you are looking for somewhere on the North Norfolk Coast this place is perfect. Well done to everyone and we will be back soon - (i'm angling for my birthday). James, Lucy and Otto.More
We found the staff here helpful and friendly, and the steak was delicious.
Dog friendly establishment.
Good outdoor space.
It seems an odd thing to say but they accept cash here (we were turned away from a pub in Brancaster because they would not accept...our cash)More
My wife and I were on holiday in the village for 2 weeks and having seen the fish & chips being served in the pub we decided that we would have a takeaway one night as they looked really nice. So on Monday 5th July...at about 5pm I rang in to order 2 fish & chip takeaways. As they are offered on their website I didn't think it would be a problem especially on a Monday. The young lady that I spoke to said that she would check if they could do them. I wanted to pick them up at 7pm but was told it was not possible. It would either be at 6.30pm or after 8pm. So we arrived at 7pm in order to have a couple of drinks beforehand and told them that we had ordered for 8pm. Just after 8pm we saw a waitress walk past our table with 2 takeaway boxes so thought they must be for someone else. At 8.10pm I asked someone where our takeaways were. The same 2 boxes that past us 10 minutes earlier were handed to me.
When we opened them up they were barely warm. The fish was a soggy mess and 1 of them was bent over double. As for the chips, I got 8 and my wife got 10. They were small, hard and overdone. It looked like they were scraped off the bottom of the frying basket. My wife's haddock tasted even worse than mine (possibly going off and went in the bin). £27 for 2 disgusting portions of food. Maybe we should have taken them back and made a fuss but we still had a few nights left and it was the handiest place for a drink without driving.More
We had fish and chips to take away the night we arrived in Norfolk. They were really excellent, restaurant standard, beautifully cooked. The pub itself was busy, newly refurbished and looked really good.
Stayed nearly to this place so thought we’d check it out, tentatively as it hasn’t been great over the last few years.
Wow, what a difference! A lovely warm & welcoming greeting and excellent food. Every dish our family group of 6 chose was tasty...& fresh & imaginative.
Service was great, friendly staff noticing our glasses were empty, asking if our food was ok etc.
A massive contrast to The Orange Tree further along the coast! In fact the following night we abandoned our awful evening at the OT and headed back to the hero for our desserts!
All in all, a welcoming, cosy pub. Lovely decor & top notch pub food. Highly recommend!More

Well well ....My question was aimed at AJL 's one star review which was given after the Hero refused to take his booking for lunch for a time after they had closed. Slightly unfair but perhaps you missed it, or didn't care.
For Mr Forbes in faraway UAE who must be bored senseless.... I live 2 mins away from the Hero, and to the guy who says he lives in Dersingham I'm an adult who cares about fake reviews on TA and will bother to try and rectify them, especially when its my local.
To Sue in Bedford....glad you had the time to respond so positively. Thank you everyone for your interest.
