A group of us dined here. Some of us had starters of Lobster and Shellfish Bisque and seafood with crab which was beautifully presented. For main courses we enjoyed Monkfish and other fish. Service was excellent as always. The only downside was that it was really cold …

Tucked away just off the High Street, this is an intriguing old religious building that has been transformed into a friendly restaurant with various levels. On a quiet midweek lunchtime, we were offered a varied and interesting menu which led to each one of our party of five choosing a different main course. All plates were cleared! We sampled two of the desserts between us and the beautifully presented home made ice creams were outstanding both in quality and variety. The other offerings were beautifully presented and again all plates were cleared. In future this will be our go to destination for meals in Lymington.

This was by a very great distace the best meal we have eaten out in years. Proper cooking! It was lovely to be presented with a set-price, three course menu with each course offering just a handful of delicious options. But these were options that did not include pizza, pasta, or burgers, but truly interesting dishes. With a glass or house red and house white each, the total bill was £80, tip included. Highly recommended. When next in Lymington I shall certainly return.

Excited by a return visit to this restaurant with friends, as our previous visit was outstanding in every respect, but this time we were disappointingly let down. The lamb dish ordered comprised one small cutlet, a third of which was fat served with a spoonful of mash potato and small chopped vegetables, so disappointing at an inflated price of £26.95. However, the Seabass dish was fine. The desserts were disappointingly small for the price paid which had shrunk considerably since our last visit, and coffee served in small cups was expensive too. Dining with friends, we chose not to make a fuss but the meal compared unfavourably with fairly local 5* restaurants that we regularly frequent offering larger portions at far less cost. Overall, our dining experience turned out to be poor value for money but on a positive note the owner did give us a friendly welcome with good service.

We had read all the fantastic reviews and were anticipating a great meal. The staff were welcoming and the setting lovely, but the food was appalling. Starter of smoked haddock rissotto - the fish was rubbery and the rice was dry and glued together. Main courses: fillet beef we were asked how it should be cooked and asked for rare, came well done with a gravy that was like gravy granules: sea bass overcooked: hake was meant to come with herb crust but had a smear of pesto on top. Fish was cold and gelatinous in the middle. All food was drenched in salt and took some time to get rid of the taste. Despite deciding not to cause a fuss, we were offered a glass of wine to be removed from the bill. Still £150 for four of us and a massive disappointment. Will not be going again unless the restaurant'fess up and say they didn't have a real chef in that night.

Had a lovely dinner. scallops, prawns, monkfish and lamb - all superb. A confident chef, who does enough to the raw produce to make you feel special, but without it being about him. Best meal we had in Lymington all week, both in terms of food and service.

A fantastic meal again at the Lanes, the quality of the Food and the Service is exceptional. Within our party we had a couple of people with specific dietary requirements, these were accommodated by the team and they delivered equally great food even though these were specific last minute requests. Thanks and see you again.

We ate at Lanes of Lymington for the first time last Saturday lunchtime. The food was tasty and the three course menu at £30pp was a bargain; however what sold the venue to us other than the quirky building was the exemplary service by the smiley waitress who looked after us. She was just wonderful 😃 Recommended.

This was a birthday treat for my husband, we didn't know Lymington town and I made our choice based on their website and reviews. I absolutely couldn't fault the excellent staff, the understated but extremely pleasant setting (it used to be a church many moons ago), and the exceptional food. We had the cod risotto and avocado cheesecake for starters, the lamb and monkfish (superb) for mains, and the coconut sponge and frangipane for dessert. Every dish was extremely tastefully presented and just the right size. My husband was spoilt with a birthday tray of exquisite bite-sized fruits and tiny lemon drops. DELICIOUS. Thank you to both members of staff and the chef for a truly special evening meal.

We had dinner there while on a short visit to Lymington. My smoked haddock risotto had perfectly cooked fish as was my wife’s monkfish. Service was delightful. Prices on the low side if anything. Definitely deserves to be busier than it was. Would definitely return.

Oh how disappointed we were to make a return visit to Lanes while staying in Lymington. We had visited before a couple of years ago for a Mother’s Day lunch which was brilliant. Our visit this time was to a cold restaurant serving very bland uninspiring food. This was from a poor menu which was very boring. Staff were very engaging but the food arrived I just wished I had gone somewhere else in the town which has so much to offer. I chose Sea bass …… not difficult to cook to perfection, but not at here ! We will not return next time we are in Lymington.

Nicola and her fantastic team hosted our 60th birthday party at Lanes on Good Friday. From start to finish, we had a wonderful experience. Lanes are accustomed to large groups so the planning stage was a breeze - Nicola was able to guide us painlessly through menu and drinks choices and accommodate any other additional requests we threw into the mix at the last minute!!! We desperately wanted live music - again, no problem. Lanes has a live music license and our band (big shout out to The John Burke Duo) liaised with Nicola directly. On the night, Louise and Martin joined Nicola front of house and were fantastic. We didn’t get to see Chef Peter but his food was a big success. In short, nothing was too much trouble and we can’t thank all the team at Lanes for a truly memorable evening. 🥰

Started badly when the Menus we were given bore no resemblence to that posted on their web site as a "sample menu" which having travelled 200 miles to be there was what we had based our booking on !! What we did order and arrived was also very poor in terms of the overall portion sizes, quality of food and its presentation, which clearly was no that of a proper chef. Service was poor, we had to pour both our water and wine, no bread or rolls at all, but particularly with the soup and crab pate. Main Courses all small portions and genrally not enough food. We also saw other diners in the restaurant equally as unimpressed with their starters and meals We gave up after that and decided not too throw any more good money after bad with deserts and coffees, instead driving to the local KFC to get some food. We did remark how disappointed we were with the owners on departing, but there reply did seem very well rehearsed. Would defintely NOT recommned or go there again

Last night I enjoyed my usual excellent birthday dinner at Lanes. The menu is varied, with plenty of fish for my husband. Friendly service, and beautifully presented food. If it's your birthday (notify before) you will get a pretty birthday platter after your dessert - such a nice touch even if you are feeling pretty full! It's a husband and wife team, and they work very hard to make your evening a good one.

We went as a group of 8 as it was highly rated by trip advisor. It has an interesting architecture but totally lacks atmosphere. Tables and chairs would look suitable for a canteen. It was a cold night and very cold inside. I was the first to be served and by the time everyone were given their main course, mine was stone cold. I asked for duck to be rare and it was the same as my friend’s who wanted it well done. It was tough as if cooked in a microwave. The vegetables served were very small and cold. I found the whole experience very poor, a total disappointment and far too expensive.
