We came across this restaurant in an “Oslo on a budget” type blog and we could not have been more impressed with the food, and the lovely waiter. My boyfriend got the traditional meatballs and I got a vegetarian option, both our meals, two beers a dessert came to the equivalent of around £50 - great value for money. Would definitely recommend Sofies!

We chose the restaurant based on the reviews and the decent prices. The food was great, big portions and it was less expensive than a lot of similar places in Oslo. We wouldn’t recommend the lasagna but the traditional fish, the shrimps and the escargots were delicious.

For the price you pay (around 300 NOK), you will get an amazing Norwegian culinary experience. I ordered famous potato dumplings and was surprised by the big portion and delicious food. I have never tried things like that before, and I was positively surprised. The cook brings you the food yourself, and the waitresses check on you multiple times. A lovely lady is speaking Swedish, and she is super great to talk to. A truly wonderful experience.

If you want to experience a traditional self made Norwegian dinner, this is the place to go. The menu changes everyday and you can choose between two dishes (mostly one meet and one fish meal). Additionally, it was possible to choose from the a la carte menu. We ordered both daily dishes and they were delicious. The service was excellent with a very friendly owner who explained the menu to us. The evening was topped by a Norwegian male choir for a birthday guest at the restaurant. All in all a memorable experience.

We ordered marinated chicken and entrecôte. The side dish was not written on menu, we got French fries automatically (they did not ask what side dish do we want). Also, mushrooms were in both foods and were not written on menu. On the other hand the waiter was really nice and food was quite fast done. The meat itself and the sauce were amazing. By contrast, we wanted a tea, he asked us if we want black or green- we chose green and we got mint. Otherwise the food was tasty and it was a nice place for a normal price in Oslo.

Yuck! Our prawn pan fried appetizer was small and unforgettable. The fish special was mac and cheese with pieces of fish in it and it was heavy and tasteless; it came recommended by the owner/waiter. The Norwegian traditional was Swedish meatballs and mashed potato; they were average in a non descript brown sauce. The grilled salmon was good but only because we asked for the heavy sauce on the side. Sofie’s burger we ordered with no sauce or other toppings and it too was average. We really wanted to like the restaurant based on reviews. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes?

Bad. Very very bad. I could not eat the dish they served me (by the way, the only vegetarian option), I was disgusted. This "restaurant" should end up on an episode of "Kitchen Nightmares". The place looks bad, the food looks bad, tastes horrible and it is NOT real Norwegian food. The waitress was nice and welcoming but couldn't help... I just don't understand the good reviews. De gustibus non disputandum est, ok, but there are limits... Don't offend your palate and you wallet, eat somewhere else.

We had the most wonderful kjøttkake I brun saus (meatballs in brown sauce) at this mom & pop restaurant in Oslo. The atmosphere was delightful, the meal was delicious, and the price was amazing! Be sure to check their menu, as their specials change daily. If you want meatballs, you’ll have to visit on a Monday.

We were googling for a place to have dinner and wanted a place serving Norwegian food and in a local neighbourhood rather than a touristy one. We came across Sophie’s by chance and it was a pleasant surprise. The menu is selective and fixed for the day which makes it easier to order and and leaves enough opportunity to be treated personally by the owners who run the place. The food is delicious and one must try the apple cake! We couldn’t have asked for a more wholesome meal and hospitality after a day of sight seeing!! Thank you

We loved our visit to Sofies! The food was authentically Norwegian and the atmosphere was authentically cozy. What we appreciated most about Sofies was the owner. Not only did she take our orders, but she took a real interest in helping us decide what to order as we wanted to try local dishes. She had a great sense of humor and I appreciated her bit of sarcasm. Perhaps the greatest surprise at Sofies was the cost. In a city where dining out can be quite expensive, Sofies provided a budget-friendly option that did not compromise on food or ambiance. If you only have one night in Oslo, go visit Sofies Mat & Vinhus. You won't be sorry.

We had an excellent dinner at Sophie‘s with another couple. Three of us ordered traditional Norwegian dishes (two orders of reindeer and one order of the beef “biff” meatballs) and one of us ordered chicken. All were happy with their choices. The starter salads were tasty but small enough so that they did not ruin dinner, which I appreciate. The wine list for red consisted of our host bringing four bottles to the table and recommending one of them, a 2019 Italian red that was pretty good. The reindeer, which I’d never had before, was really good. Highly recommend Sophie‘s.

Dinner on a Sunday & not much open, so we walked farther than most to Sofies. Mostly locals dining, a good sign. A taste of Norway that night was sold out, so they substituted meatballs, which were very good. We sat across from the bar & the bartender/server was very funny & candid. Another local customer sitting next to us then engaged us in a very long & amusing conversation. Great atmosphere & great food. Beer was decent too.

We dined here the night before the marathon so I was after some carbs and my partner wanted classic Norwegian and this place solved the problem. It's located a bit out of central, though still within walking distance of our hotel, and it was rather quiet when we visited. Actually a bonus as we could have a chat with the charming hostess. Her partner, the chef, hails from Pakistan (if I remember correctly) and this led to some interesting variations on the menu - the Veiled Peasant Girls dessert was with mango rather than the traditional apple for example. Indeed, al the food was spot on; for our mains we had seafood stew and lasagne (obviously) and both went down a treat. Certainly worth a visit.

Webside doesn’t correspond With the real world. No Wine list. No list of drinks. Photos of food and food served In the restaurant does not match (check shrimp cocktail). Tapas selection is one by one and not very Norwegian. Red Wine is served at 25 degrees. “Because it’s summertime,” Said the chef.

This is the place to go if you are looking for traditional Norwegian food at affordable prices in Oslo. Do not expect fine dining, this is a pub but the food is great. Imagine comfort food cooked by a grandmother. The staff is friendly and the portions are huge.
