About
An Icelandic tradition since 1958. Mokka is one of Reykjavik's oldest cafés and the first to install an espresso machine and serve espresso, cappuccino, and café latte in Iceland. There's a tempting selection of sandwitches, cakes, and the coffee and hot chocolate are excllent with their famous house waffles, served with cream and jam. The déckor - red carpet, leatherette booths and stools - hasn't changed much althought the art on the walls is changed every 4-6 weeks as the café has doubled as an Art gallery with new art for sale since opening.

A lady in our hotel recommended that we go to Mokka Kaffi as we had asked where was good to have a waffle in Reykjavik. She said it was one of the oldest cafes in Reykjavik and where all the locals go so off we headed, searching for this lovely red cafe. We loved it! My children said it was the best hot chocolate they have ever tasted and they begged us to return the following day, so we did! All the art on the walls changed overnight, and it had a really arty feel to the cafe. The cakes and waffles were excellent, as were the paninis. I will definitely return to Mokka Kaffi if we come back to Iceland.

We were already in the door when I heard a Scottish tour guide say to his group "that place serves the best coffee in Reykjavik"
He wasn't lying!!
We went in a few times during our stay and when you go somewhere where the local people frequent you know it must be good!
Great coffee (I have mine plain and black but the mochas are delicious apparently) with tasty snacks and delicious cakes as well.
There are more expensive coffee shops around but the coffee here was by far the best we had.
Very friendly staff as well.
We will definitely visit again next time we're in town.

This is said to be Reykjavik’s oldest coffee shop; it’s been around since 1958, and apparently was one of the first in the city to prepare a range of coffees by a ‘proper’ espresso machine.
So for someone who enjoys a decent freshly brewed coffee, it had to be visited, and the coffee sampled.
The coffees were good: a double espresso and a flat white; they were robust, strong and full flavoured - and enjoyable. However, it wasn’t enough for us to say: “These are the best coffees we’ve ever had”, and to entice us back again. The cafe serves all the standard coffee variations, and quite an array of waffles, pastries and sandwiches; although we didn’t have any of the food offerings, the selection on display looked fresh and tasty.
The cafe has inside and outside seating. There were various artworks on display inside, but with warm sunny weather we chose to sit outside at the pavement tables. The coffee is reasonably priced, and was brought to our tables by the barista.
There are many outlets for coffee in Reykjavik. This is a pleasant spot on the busy footfall street of Skólavörðusíg, and is worth a try!!! Look out for the deep pink building on the left as you head up to the cathedral.

Really enjoyed visiting this cafe, the staff were really friendly and the food was delicious. We had a mozzarella, sun dried tomato and pesto sandwich as well as a waffle with maple syrup.
Location is perfect and they make such yummy coffee. Would definitely recommend others to visit!

The atmosphere inside Mokka Kaffi is so calm and peaceful, with a well-respected quietude. We ordered the waffles, which were warm and delicious, exactly what we needed after our flight to Iceland. Great service too! We will return when we come back to Reykjavik.

We had heard about the waffles at this cafe before going to Iceland and decided we would make a point of visiting at some point during our trip. We do love waffles! We decided to go for a late breakfast before heading to the airport on our final day. The waffles are delicious as were the hot chocolate and coffee. The service was fast and friendly and the cafe has a nice atmosphere. We sat by the front window so we could watch a little downtown Reykjavik while we enjoyed our food. While we were there for the waffles, they also offer cakes and pastries if that is more your thing.

Great location for a photo opp right on the Rainbow Street looking up to the Hallgrimskirkja. Small cafe with limited seating, but great outdoor tables right on bustling tourist street. Friendly service, and good selection of cakes and cookies. In fact, several desserts were unique to this cafe. Sandwich selection good too. Delicious coffee.

Delightful little coffee house in the tourist part of town but frequented by locals and tourists alike. Some of the best lattes I’ve ever had, and artfully presented. Indoor and outdoor seating. Lovely!

A real classic! As they proudly say, unchanged since the 60's. The exact same small group of older men were at the same table as two years ago on our last visit. A sign that we had found the right place the locals go. Great art show on the walls at the moment. And of course, lovely coffee and snacks!

Never actually got to try the coffee, since it never arrived. After 30 minutes of no coffee, we decided find a cafe where you can sit AND have coffee at the same time.
If your idea of heaven is to sit in a busy, noisy space and imagine what your order MIGHT be like, this is your place.

... be the oldest cafe in Reykjavik.
So if they lasted about half a century, they couldn't have done so much wrong.
I had Americano with whipped cream on it: with 820 Kronis not quite cheap, but also quite successful.
The location is unbeatable, just off Rainbow Street. In good weather, they even have five tables outside on the sidewalk. So you also get into conversation with locals, as you have to share the table regularly with other guests. Very pleasant pastime, especially as the Icelanders speak excellent English.
You order inside at the counter and you are brought what you ordered to the table.
Slowly, you get the impression that the service staff consists only of students who occasionally work there.

A great place to chill and have a nice hot chocolate. In the mornings they are a little full, but it's perfect in the afternoon.
Awesome service and a good stop when it's raining.
