I highly recommend Bernhoftsbakarí. I just purchased a white dinner roll with poppy seed for ISK 110, less than 1EUR or USD. I also got a loaf of sunflower seed bread which is a favorite with my family members. I buttered the roll and took it to work to have as a snack later. They offer traditional sweet cakes, danishes and donut holes but this bakery also offers barley bread made with icelandic barley. The biggest plus for visitors is the location, plenty of parking right outside and a 3 minute walk from Harpa concert house by the harbour in Reykjavik.

Everything about this bakery is great -- quality, selection, price, and the fact that it is the oldest bakery in Iceland. The staff is very patient in explaining all the different types of bread to travelers who may not be familiar with the various ingredients. The pastries are excellent; crusts are flaky and fillings are yummy. And, if you're in a hurry, you can also grab a carton of milk or a bag of coffee to brew at home.

small shop found by chance near the Opera building, the owner of an extreme kindness, lover of Puglia and our mozzarella. We bought cereal bread, stuffed braid and typical desserts, all of an exaggerated goodness. Last we took a picture together in memory of the kindness of the lady. Definitely Recommendation

My bus stop was only steps away from here so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit Iceland's oldest bakery! It was warm and cozy and smelled great inside. Despite the very early hour, a few people stopped in to pick up bread. The lady at the counter was friendly and helpful when I asked what she would recommend for someone visiting for the first time. I zeroed in on the chocolate cinnamon roll, which is very unlike the American version. The dough is very dense, chewy, not bad, but not what I like. There was also a caramel and plain version and other pastries. The variety was limited to what was in the display cases and there is limited seating but worth a visit.

This is THE bakery where the locals get their pastries and bread. They have a bit of everything and its all just awesome. That remark also goes for the coffee. I have visited this place each time I visit Iceland over the past decade and am always served by the same, elderly woman who speaks no English at all. She gets really annoyed that we can't speak Icelandic, but still serves us. And you know what, I just love her despite her getting totally annoyed at me. She is part of the trip experience that makes it memorable. One caution. There are only a few seats, so you will likely need to get your pastries as take-out.

Great little bakery with helpful staff. If they don't have what you came for they will suggest a time expected to be available. We had warm croissants, snúður and coffee - all were delicious! Pretzels were not ready until ~10...we made a return trip and it was worth it! 5 star offerings at good prices, but limited selection means you need flexibility when you go.

My husband and I stopped in for cinnamon rolls, apple tart, and croissants for our family. The staff were so friendly and helpful and even made a local call for us when we couldn't connect with our tour bus. We enjoyed going there and will return! Everything was so fresh, authentic, and delicious.

Went into this bakery to get coffee and cake and it was most warm and welcoming. The cakes and bread looked very enticing.

I went here for breakfast on my second day in Iceland, and it was great! It's relatively close to central Reykjavik, and it's a nice walk (even if you're prone to getting lost, like myself!). It's probably easier to grab some things and eat them outside of the bakery, since it's on the smaller side. I was able to get coffee and a few pastries (including the serrbakad vinarbraud), and they were great. The girl at the counter was wonderful as well -- I don't speak any Icelandic, and she was able to help me in perfect English, and I just ordered what her favorite things were, and it didn't disappoint!

Some very nice bakery stuff. Not a lot of things to choose from though. Short walk down town. I really like their bread and real chocolate snúður.

This bakery was about a block from our hotel, Swan House. Everything we had was excellent, including the lowest priced rolls in Reykjavik, 80K. They have customers all day long, and the bakery is located on premise.
