We visited mid afternoon for hot chocolate and pastries - a cinnamon bun and an almond croissant came to £24.00 - food and drinks were good. Service was ok from the young woman who served us but we observed appalling behaviour by one of the other waiters to another couple sat along side us. They offer free tap water in bottles but the inside of the neck of the water bottles was crusted up with dirt so we passed on that. The bottle clearly had not been cleaned in weeks to be in that state.

Nice, clean little cafe/diner. Great pizza's, all freshly made...ours were slightly charred but tasted fine. Young staff (as seems to be the norm in Reykjavik, or am I just getting old ?) were very friendly, very helpful and all spoke excellent English. Cafe caters for cakes and coffee in the morning an early afternoon, followed by pizza's in the evening. Not the cheapest place to eat, but worth a visit.

There was a line out the door every time we passed and for a good reason! We waited for a table and had the best Pain au Chocolat, cinnamon roll, and egg/asparagus Tartine we have ever tasted. The vibe is funky, the pastries are flying off the shelves and super fresh. We noticed the owner seemed to have a great relationship with his staff and they handled the frenzy of patrons very well.

We visited here on 17/04/2022, we wanted a takeaway and couldn’t find any prices for the pastries. I ordered the cinnamon buns which the server was at first polite but then rude when I was paying telling me to ‘move out of the way for the next customer’. The buns were nice and warm but unfortunately disappointing as they were doughy inside, we ate them anyway as didn’t want to go back inside, first and last visit

We passed by the window of this bakery and were enticed by the varied pastries they have. But when we went in to ask for breakfast, a grumpy and horrible waiter told us that it was two o'clock, and at that time we have lunch, with truly rude sarcasm and despite another waitress coming out of the kitchen with a tray full of freshly made croissants baked. BTW he asked us to sit at the table to order, but he neither accompanied us to the table nor cleaned it from previous customers' residues. When after a while he came to our table to get the order, we asked to just get a coffee and croissants. He was lost and asked us which croissants we wanted, but we didn't have the menus and we didn't know how to answer and he started to get impatient, waving his arms to tell us to hurry up. The fact is that we manage to order two espressos and two croissants, but we only receive the coffees... after five minutes of waiting where the croissants are not delivered, we decide to pay and leave. But the misadventure wasn't over yet! after queuing to pay, the same damn guy decides to let two other customers go ahead of us. And when we ask can we pay? he tells us you must pay, 2 coffees and 2 croissants then he corrects himself and says you should, but I pointed to the table where we were sitting saying we never received the croissants.
To avoid at all costs!

I am really trying to think of something positive to say about this place. My partner saw all the baked goods through the window and wanted to come inside for a pastry and a coffee. There was a sign inside asking us to wait to be seated but nobody recognised we were standing there for some time. Finally we were shown to a table at the end of the room close to the back door, which was open and it was freezing cold and next to the aisles where the staff was running back and forth with plates from the kitchen. We didn't get the pastries ordered and after realising nthey had forgotten us (as we only got the drinks when they served us) we asked a staff member about it. They said they would check and we had to wait just as long before the pastry was actually served, and by then our drinks was finished twice over. I wish I could say the pastry was worth the wait but it was dry and a disappointment. By this time, we were very ready to leave so we just paid and didn't bother to comment any more.

The only bad experience of our 10 day stay in Iceland. This place is extremely unhospitable. When you come in it is not easy to understand what your next steps are. There is a line at the ordering counter and then sitting area deeper in the room. I asked two employees behind the counter how it works and they told me that I have to order at the counter first and then eat. So we ordered coffee and pastries and then tried to go to the sitting space to eat them. We were immediately confronted by the waiter and the the manager, who told us that we cannot eat here because food purchased at the counter is for carry out only and sitting area has a different pricing. I told them that their staff gave me different explanations and I don't want to go and have my coffee at the pouring rain. They forced us out from the sitting area anyway. As we were leaving I noticed two high tables with stools at the carry out area and assumed that these are for those, who might have a quick bite after ordering. So we sat there and had our coffee. Another waitress approached us and told us that we cannot eat there either. We thanked her for their extreme hospitality and left. I was never chased from the restaurant in my life. Very memorable experience, when people lose the common human values chasing guests out due to a possible miscommunication, rather than allowing to stay for 5 minutes to finish a coffee and croissant.

Seriously, the margarita pizza was among the best I have ever eaten…and that is saying something! The sauce was bright and bursting with fresh flavor while their house-made crust was the perfect crisp-chewy balance. We also ordered a pasta dish but the staff told us they weren’t satisfied with how the dough had turned out that day. I applaud them for not serving something that didn’t meet their standards – it truly shows their dedication to quality. Their website is a bit challenging (is in Icelandic only) but don’t be dissuaded – this spot is a gem!

Our party of 4 stopped in on a Sunday for breakfast. Small shop. You can order take away from the counter or be seated and have access to a larger breakfast menu. We waited 5 mins for a table to open. Servers were very attentive and polite. We enjoyed the eggs and toast, vanilla latte, hot chocolate, croissants, and a cinnamon roll. Everything was amazing. Highly recommend

As of this writing, Baka Baka is listed as number 10 of 12 bakeries in Reykjavik. I can’t imagine that there are 11 better bakery/restaurants. The sourdough bread is fresh and soft and delicious, pastries are phenomenal, lots of lunch offerings including fantastic pizza. And the people are lovely. Highly recommended for a pastry stop, lunch, or picking up fresh bread for a hike.

Rude bordering on hostile service. Coffee and cinnamon buns were served with a 15 minute gap in between. Coffee finished before the buns arrived. Coffee wasn't very warm. Another couple were asked to move from a table as they hadn't seen the 'wait to be seated' sign only to be brought to the table next to it 15 seconds later. It's was like the waiter hated all customers and they were an inconvenience. Don't go. The cinnamon buns were nice but takeaway would be a better experience probably.

Great atmosphere, service fine. Be sure to arrive at best time for meal you would like as the kitchen has a half hour no service turnaround between breakfast and lunch. The breakfast looked amazing but we missed out unfortunately. However, the pastries were incredible!

Passed this cafe a couple of times before our visit but the food they sell is displayed in the windows and looked amazing enough to finally try it. We were not disappointed. We each had a pastry that were the size of a small child (well not quite that big) and when brought to the table they were still warm and pillowy. The taste was superb too. The coffee was excellent quality too. Would highly recommend a visit to this cafe.

Cute little friendly cafe we stumbled across whilst exploring the city. We stopped for a coffee & a pasty (one sweet & one savory).
The pastry's were sizeable, beautifully crisp, flakey & very very tasty. The coffee was delicious & I loved that they had coffee syprups (not many places offer this). Would definitely recommend!

Stopped in here for a quick snack and a coffee. We had a ham and cheese croissant each which tasted delicious and was obviously very fresh - however there was a very small amount of ham in each one. The coffee again was lovely but in a small cup. For two croissants and two cofees it came to just over £25 so this seems far more than it was worth. The bakery goods do look and smell great so perhaps we made the wrong menu choice - due to price and portion sizes unfortunately its a 3* this time round but would try another visit for something sweet next time!
