So we found this restaurant on trip advisor and decided to give it a go due to the reviews.
First of all, the price is very reasonable for a restaurant in Iceland, especially the set meals in which I had the 'Fly fish'.
The service from the staff was amazing, they were very attentive and helped to arrange a special suprise for my mum's birthday.
The food served was also amazing, we couldn't fault it at all. The size of the set meal was perfect, you will definitely be completely filled up from it!
I would definitely recommend you give this place a visit if you go to Iceland.
Great service and great food for a nice price.

This was the one restaurant we pre-booked before arriving in Iceland and we’re so glad we did. The food was excellent; I had the cod and chorizo and it was cooked to perfection. We were expecting high prices but this was actually really good value - we paid around £90 for three courses plus one alcoholic drink each. If you’re after a special experience, we would thoroughly recommend.

We ate here for my wife’s birthday. Staff are very friendly and efficient. We chose the Smokey Bay and Seahorse set menus. All the food was cooked perfectly and was very tasty. With a bottle of wine and a couple of beers our bill came to £137 which I consider to be reasonable for the quality of the food. When we return in the future we will definitely eat here. Quality food, quality service, highly recommended

People always say Reykjavík and Iceland is so expensive! Forrettabarinn provides an amazing meal at a very reasonable price. I’m not suggesting that it is a replacement for 99 cent ramen, but for the quality of food and what you pay, the value for money is tremendous.
We came twice. The first time was straight after we arrived as we had a night flight in and it is across from our hotel. We got two appetisers and were welcomed by excellent service.
The next time we sat down for three courses. The langoustine soup is so hearty, and the duck entree was delightful. The lamb was absolutely brilliant. The service on top of this was elite.
You can sit in a more formal restaurant area or bar area, we recommend the bar. It is a bit more relaxed.

We went here last night. Both my wife and I had one of the 4 course menus which came I at around £40 each.
The food was fantastic and a good variety throughout each different course. The lamb dish was particularly good.
The staff were all friendly and the atmosphere in general was very relaxing indeed.
Thanks very much to everyone in there, I would recommend it to anyone!

One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to! Not only was the food incredibly good, but the staff is wonderful. I believe our waitress’ name was Dany and she was very mindful of my gluten allergy and was so nice and sweet. The four course dinner is quite big, too big for me, and I was able to change it to only two courses, which was very much appreciated. The langoustine bisque was probably the best I’ve ever had. A must if you’re in town!

What a lovely restaurant. We like the décor and ambience, the staff were so friendly and helpful. We had the set menu and they allowed me to swap the horse meat to fish. The food were tasty especially the lobster soup! Price wise was quite good for Reykjavik standard.

Went to this restaurant in March 2020 just before COVID restrictions. It is in the old town near the harbour. The 4 course tasting menu is excellent value for money (range from 5450 - 6950) and a great way to try Icelandic contemporary food. Every course was delicious and very good portions. It is a quirky bar with also a great happy hour - cocktails, wine and beer. Service was extremely efficient and friendly. Highly recommended.

We were surprised that of all the waitstaff, only one wore a mask. It was really crowded, and the lack of masks made it hard to relax and enjoy. I wouldn’t have booked here if I had known, but made the reservation before coming to Reykjavik. Food was fairly good, though of the fixed menus, none were good for pescivores. The vegan one looked good, but I was in the mood for seafood so didn’t try it. Their steak option was horse. The fish soup was tasty, but super heavy on the cream and light on the langostina.

A friend of ours had recommended this restaurant. We went there on a Monday night early (around 6h30 PM). It was about 5 min walk from our hotel, the Grandi by Center. We had the Cocktail of (bay) shrimp & grilled/skewered bay scallops served on a bed of baby rocket/arugula, the Chicken quesadillas & coriander salsa (cumin spiced) and the onion rings with Dijon dressing. All were excellent. We picked the Skyr mousse and the Sticky toffee pudding for dessert snd couldn't figure out which one was better. The winers by the glass were also very good (house red and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc). Would definitely go back and as we have a few more days, we might do just that!

I had an Airbnb near here and these folk were really pleasant as I wandered in, had some drinks watched the football and had a number of different dishes on separate days.
The food was great, the service was really good - even on very busy nights.
Well done. Well worth a visit

We chose this restaurant after walking away from a couple of others because the others had whale meat on their menu and as tourists the best thing you can do is not support the whaling industry and make sure your money goes to places that don’t serve whale. Anyway, we were so happy with our choice, this was our favourite meal in Iceland. We had a set menu which was incredibly good value for money by Reykjavik standards. The service was friendly and efficient and the waitress let my picky husband swap out a dish on the set menu! The atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming and we also noticed quite a few locals eating there - which is always a good sign!! Every single dish was delicious and generous. It was fresh Icelandic ingredients and local cuisine done in quite a modern style. The fish dish (ling) was particularly delicious. They also had quite a broad menu with plenty range of vegan dishes. Definitely highly recommended!

A really lovely restaurant just outside the core area most people would look. If you're staying at the IcelandAir Marina this is just across the street.
We ate hot smoked salmon as a starter which was beautiful, I had the baked Cod (fish of the day) with celariac puree (so fresh and delicious!), my wife had the lamb. Sticky toffe pudding for dessert was glorious, not too sweet but like a fabulous Brownie with a grown up toffee sauce and lovely ice cream.
The food was fab, and the atmosphere equally lovely. A good mix of locals and a few tourists. The service was impeccable, really quick but without feeling rushed, with the servers being incredibly friendly and chatty (but not in your face). I'd definitely come back and highly recommend you try this place if you have the chance.

Picked the restaurant for a Birthday meal...very happy with the choice.
We chose to eat off the set meal menus, two of us picking the meat one and another the Fly Fish...all excellent.
You’re not limited to the set menus and the other choices are ‘small starters’ or ‘bigger starters’. The set menu takes two smaller and one larger starter and then a desert to finish. May sound like too much but it was just right after a day walking around Reykjavík.
The warm smoked salmon was really great and the lamb dish (according to my son) was the best cooked lamb he’d ever had...he is probably right as well.
Well recommended.

We were given this recommendation from the hosts of our air b n b. We had a wonderful meal trying the four course taster menu, myself having the Fly Fish option and my husband having the Smokey Bay option. All were very tasty!
We also had a few beers, more reasonable at around £8/pint compared to £10 at many others. They also have complementary bread with an olive tapenade.
Definitely would recommend!
