About
Speciality cafe, bar and a homey eatery. Our name is pronounced as "Cafe Like..ur" or Kaffi Laugalækur in Icelandic. Situated around the corner from Iceland’s largest and most popular swimming pool: Laugardalslaug. Also the botanical gardens, gourmet shops, petting zoo and family parks, and ferry to Videy island. Offering good value and healthy award winning Nordic sourdough pizzas, salads, sandwiches, soups and dish of the day. Homemade cakes and pastries. Plenty of vegan options. Weekday lunch offers, happy hour daily 4-7pm and 10-11pm, brunch served on weekends from 11am to 3 pm. Using the freshest seasonal food ingredients, speciality coffee and tea and local craft beer. Owned by family and friends we have a welcoming and friendly vibe with a Nordic design. Our name refers to the street name and the geothermal water in the area. Reykjavík city takes its name from the natural steam that flows underground our cafe! We also have a hostel and a progressive art gallery.

Staying at the Hotel Cabin so we walked to this place for dinner. About 5 mins walk thru a quiet neighborhood. Nice local place. Great atmosphere. Good service. On the night we were there, a local singer was at the bar performing so it was a bit crowded.
We had the vegan bake and lamb burger. Both were really good. Couldn’t finish the vegan bake, it was pretty filling. The lamb burger was great too except it tasted more like lamb bbq (it had a bbq flavor). Great local Viking beer. Would’ve loved to have eaten here again. Portions are a good size and prices are what you’d expect when you eat out in Iceland.

Great Local food but sadly bad service. They have a great kids corner, good enviorment and good coffee. I recommend their pizzas.

I was the only person in the entire restaurant, therefore how is it possible to cook poorly? I was saddened by the chefs lack of love of food. Evidently owners are saving costs by a unexperienced untrained chef. Total disaster as you get hit and miss style cooking.
In a brunch eggs should be cooked exquisitely. However the eggs were so extremely over cooked not runny yolk, if I was to throw them against a wall they would bounce back; that overcooked. Even McDonald's or plane food is arguably better than what I was served. No real Chef cooks food like that.

Supposting local business in these times is crucial. There was not much traffic, but we had to wait about one hour after our meal. Asked once where my meal was. Answer, there are my orders at the moment. NO.
in the end the waiter came and asked what we had ordered! Shortly after that the food finaly came.
Conclusion, good food, bad service.

Bad service and cold food. Ten minutes between that everybody got their food. Asked to take the plates so we could have our coffee on a clean table, but only two of four plates was taken.

Its open until 23 but had cleaned the coffeemachine at 21:10! The pizza had no flavor, even with shawarma spice and wasabi beans!

Þú varst kannski með Jóhönnu sem skrifaði líka hér að ofan. Ég svaraði henn með kaffið en líklega voru þetta mistök hjá okkur. En allavega á að vera kaffi á boðstólum þar til 1 klst fyrir lokun.

I have come twice now in November, first with my bookclub and then with the family (a group of eight, three generations). All of us were very happy with the food. VegAnna sourdough pizza is my tipe of food, very good!

Horrible coffee
Unproffesional service, with bad attitude.
Every single table was dirty.
Food were eatable, except that
Salamon sandwich contained twice more salt then salamon itself.
There are way better places in Reykjavik. Do not recommend.

Very sorry to hear about your experience. We are checking with the staff on this shift if they spoke to you to get further details. We don't put any salt on trout sandwich so only salt is from the producer of the smoked trout. If you could also contact us on kaffi@laekur.is to discuss further that would be greatly appreciated! We have never received such a review before.

Friendly neighborhood atmosphere, this place is good for lunch, coffee, dinner and also serves booze. What more could you need!?
They sell micro roast coffee beans and you can bring your own packaging, the vegan menu is great and there’s a kids corner with toys and books. As Scandinavian as it gets.

We stayed in the Laekur guesthouse. We loved the start of our day: the best bread in town from the bakery Braud & Co around the corner and top it off with a delicious cappucino here. Great music playlist and kind people too!

If you are going to Reykjavik and would like a nice neighborhood spot this is it. The food is awesome, gourmet pizzas and burgers. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is very comfortable and casual. Cool hip vibe.

Went there with my wife on a sunday morning for brunch. The food was ok, but I have never paid such an amount for glass full of ice, only to minimize the juice- the staff told us, and undrinkable coffee, probably made early in the morning. When we talked to the staff they said that they never heard anything like that before, and it looked like they did not care.
Go spend your money somewhere else- we will!!!
