Everything about this place screams warm Greek Hospitality. We visited Amorgialos the first night of our vacation in Amorgos and went there every night for 10 nights straight since. We did visit other places in the island but Amorgialos spoke straight to our heart. As...Greeks who live abroad, our criteria on food, service and entertainment when in Greece are somewhat adjusted. We were looking for authenticity and a laid-back experience, without expecting 5* service. Afterall, you are in a Greek island so adjust expectations, embrace the island mentality and enjoy the ride and the wonderful people you will meet throughout your journey. Amorgialos was exactly that. A bunch of love-life people running the place made us feel welcome, danced along and filled us with pride for our country and everything it represents, hospitality, food, and originality (and visible full moons occasionally!) Food was excellent, with the freshest local ingredients from a menu that changes daily so every day is a different experience. Seafood and salads were out favourites. Admittedly the best raki we ever had. Live music nights was the true highlight with customers signing along the band old Greek tunes, stirring conflicting emotions, happiness and nostalgia. The place is very nicely decorated and very centrally located, just across the dock where the ferry comes. The food seems to be nice and it's definitely presented in a beautiful manner; I'm vegetarian, but there are many seafood delicacies and probably meat too. I...wasn't impressed with the taste of my dishes and the service wasn't that good either. I'm not too sure if the waiter and waitress were tired but they didn't put much effort. There is often a music gig (Greek folk/traditional music) going on at night, so this place gets very busy. It's very popular and people tend to reserve a table in advance.More

Located by Aigiali's harbour this place - although it looks like one - is not your usual Greek island tavern, but more of an upmarket restaurant, especially in the way Greek dishes are prepared. Quite a first in Aegiali, although by now more are following...this style. Service was by a handsome young man, who said that he was from Alexandroupoli in the north of Greece, just as the owner Christos, whom we also saw walking from table to table during the evening to have a small chat with his guests (except with us). Wondering about the name of the place it came to my mind that this is a wordplay combination of 'Amorgos' and 'Gialos' (beach). As a starter we ordered an 'Ospriosalata' (beans, lentils, dried tomatoes, onions, parsley), which we liked. As a main course my wife went for a 'Fresh Tuna Skewer' (with grilled zucchini, carrots, tomato and pepper pieces between each tuna piece). I had a 'Grilled Ryki (Skipjack)' with Beetroot Greens. All was very good. They only serve wine by the glass or the bottle, so we had a bottle of Moraitis white wine. At the end a piece of watermelon and a small glass of ice cold Psimmeni (that special Amorgos drink) was offered. The espresso we asked for was from the Greek roastery Coffee Republic. Payment by credit card is possible, but not at the table.More
