Everything about this place was EXCEPTIONAL!

Service in this place was EXCEPTIONAL! This has to be the kindest and politest stuff personnel that I've ever encountered! At first, we were charmed with the place itself - we were sitting in an old, restaurated train wagon that, paired with jazz and bossanova music, gave us some nostalgic vibes. Than the server came with the biggest smile and positivity, we took an order for two veal soups and one small pizza Quattro Stagioni. Soup was awesome, it warmed us, and brought back our energy from the cold day. And now the most amazing part: PIZZA DOUGH! I swear to you, this has to be the best prepared pizza dough that I ever had to chance to taste! (I'm a bit ashamed to admit, but I really often eat pizza and this has to be one of the best I ever tasted) Our Quattro Stagioni had a small twist - a pice with a chicken breasts on, that was fun and different. Overall, we were beyond satisfied and we will be back at this place as soon as possible. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. I've never been this much satisfied with a food, stuff, interior and music. 10/10 would recommend!!!

View from the terrace

We were visiting a friend in Belgrade and she took us to Zemun and we planned to eat at Balkan Express. It was a sunny day in May and everyone was out and unfortunately we didn't have a reservation but a space opened up. First recommendation, on a sunny weekend make a reservation unless you want to sit inside. It was a good menu and we had the carp which was very good. The view from the terrace is spectacular.

Stop in While in Zemun

Great restaurant and bar overlooking the Danube River....unique environment, large menu and a very good experience. This is a great visit if you are exploring Zemun.

Good food and location but

Good food and location but awful staff! After we ordered meal, we had a huge disacusion with a waiter and the lady mannager because we set at the table which has already been reserved although nobody infrm us about that, nor the notice was present. At the end they forced us to seet on another table because they told us that they do not want to prepare us food if we stay at the reserved table. / Dobra hrana i lokacija ali odvratno osoblje! Nakon sto sam narucio hranu imao sam raspravu sa konobarom i menadzericom zato sto smo seli za sto koji je navodno bio rezervisan, iako nas prvodbito niko o tome nije obavesti niti je na stolu stajalo obavestenje da je rezervisano. Na kraju smo bili prinudjeni da sednemo za drugi zato sto u suprotnom ne bismo bilo usluzeni!

Very disappointed.

The worst restaurant ever. We had a family celebration and they served us cold meal. The meat was not roasted enough. The whole service was poor, they don't have enough stuff, too. Very, very disappointed. One star for the view.

Disgusting pasta and Awful service.

Bad meal

The service and atmosphere is very good, the view is beautiful. The experience with the food is very bad, although we had a reservation in advance for several people and an agreed menu. We feel cheated!

The best view!

This is the place where you can relax next to the water. The view is stunning. Prices are moderate, and the staff is always friendly and very helpful.

Cevap is the best!

The place is located on an elevated point looking down the Danube. The view is gorgeous with the little ships floating underneath. As the name suggests it has a relation to a train, which is an old style wagon attached to the main building. I can't even imagine how on earth have they been able to drag this up on the top of this hill through the narrow surrounding streets... Once we're in Serbia of course ordered traditional cevap with shopska salad. Also tried a local soft drink called Cockta and a desert from the daily menu "tri lece kolac". Excellent food, huge portions, nice ambient. The only drawback is the lack of parking spaces - you better walk there, and have a beer or two!

Nice restaurant in a nice location

We went twice to this restaurant during our stay in Belgrade (in a nearby hotel, without its own restaurant). It’s nicely decorated, with two sections, smoking and non-smoking (this is important in Belgrade for non-smokers, as some restaurants have only smoking sections), and it has a nice view to the river below. Too bad we were there only for dinners, when it was already dark outside. We tried several dishes, local or international, and we were not disappointed, on the contrary. Service was quick and careful. All waiters we spoke to were fairly speaking English. Kids received coloring sheets. Card or cash payments.

Terrific local cuisine

I ate here recently with some friends, just a walk-in as we were in the area, but we were quickly accommodated. The staff are friendly here and the service very good. Very importantly, the restaurant has a great atmosphere, is very nicely laid-out and decorated (an old railway carriage is built in to the establishment so you can sit in there if you wish - perhaps booking is required for that, I'm not sure), and is right beside the Danube river, which can be seen from inside or from the outside terrace. If you visit in the summer then sitting on the terrace is a must. The food is excellent - I ordered beef cheeks and the meat was so tender as to be almost heavenly. My companions ordered ribs, which were also very good (but my dish was agreed to be the best choice that day). We also shared a very good dessert - some dish made from pumpkin, which was delicious. Prices were reasonable, working out at roughly €10-12 per head. I am looking forward to coming back here.

This restaurant is a hidden gem

Seated on hill with epic views overlooking the Danube river, this restaurant is definitely worth the climb while visiting Zemun. The food is excellent!!! traditional Balkan very generous dishes. We ordered the Cevap, Fish soup and Balkan salad and were not disappointed. It felt like having an Orient Express style lunch since the original part of the restaurant is actually a railway wagon.

Balkan ekspres: breakfast with a view

We decided to have a breakfast on the river, and went for the Balkan ekspres restaurant on the Gardosh. We had French toasts, eggs, domestic ajvar and heavy cream (kajmak), cheese, bacon, pork belly carnitas, tomato and cucumber. Complete package. The service was superb, staff very professional and the breakfast – fantastic.
