We came to Pateo thanks to recommendations from both friends and an appearance in the Monocle Lisbon city guide. The atmosphere is lively and engaging, there are multiple concepts all in the same place (pizzeria upstairs, taberna in the front, minibar in the back..). There is a fun buzz. We saw some locals, but it was mostly tourists around us. The service was fast to the point of manic. Our starters came so fast after ordering that we had barely touched the wine. Razor clams were amazing. Octopus taco was meh. The mains landed with the same speed. Prawns in Portuguese bread gravy and squid with black rice. Both were really delicious. They tried to get us into dessert but we begged for some breathing room. It was barely 45 minutes from when we had arrived and we'd already made our way through the meal. We still had a third of a bottle of wine to go. They gave us a few minutes, then we had the cheese plate and hazelnut dessert, with recommended wine pairings. The cheese plate was odd, served more as you would expect a bar snack than a meal finisher. The server didn't know what cheeses they were. The hazelnut dessert was lovely. The bill came to almost €200. While the food was definitely good, I'm not sure it was worth the price tag. Everything felt very slick and the customers are just processed through. Missing the personal touch.

Thank you, MMP U, for this kind review. However, considering the ambiance and space descriptions, we believe that you visited Páteo - Bairro do Avillez and not our restaurant :) We hope that you consider paying us a visit as well and experience some traditional portuguese delicacies.

Our family had lunch here before an afternoon at the aquarium. It’s a great setting. Food was good - not the best we’ve had, but good. The duck and rice was dry and filled with a lot of shredded dry Turkey, the octopus was very good and the short pasta with seafood didn’t have a ton of flavor. It was the first restaurant we’ve been in Lisbon where the servers were NOT warm and welcoming.

Came here on a Sunday night. Setting is very nice and waiter was attentive. Husband had squid with black rice which he thought was very good. He also had the vegetable soup as a starter which was fine. I had the Brazilian black bean stew. Had different chunks of ham, sausage, bacon and was served over rice. Was very bland and some of the meat had a weird texture. Had to ask for hot sauce to spice it up a bit. Would not recommend. For desert we had passion fruit mousse with coconut sorbet encapsulated with chocolate. Nice but couldn’t taste the chocolate at all - just tasted cold and icey. Prices were very high by Lisbon standards. Don’t think I would go back.

Dear 478sallyb, We believe there might have been a mistake as our restaurant in closed on Sundays and we do not serve Brazilian black bean stew. Perhaps your experience was at a restaurant with a similar name? We would be delighted to welcome you at our restaurant for some delicious portuguese flavours and memorable moments. Thank you!

Very good food, great atmosphere. It is several restaurants with different spaces, we were in Pateo. My partner ordered steak, which came with some really nice and great fries. I ordered grilled octopus with super-rich potatoes and chard. We ordered wine and let the waiter choose, I know it's our fault not to check the price. Personally I think the waiter hesitated, when we went to pay he did not bring us the bill but his partner and when I saw the ticket 98 euros of wine... On the ticket he puts a price without service and another without service, which can be paid or not in other places (we have given it elsewhere), but here I did not want because I thought hard face what had happened with the wine, but the waitress was as hard face as her partner because she told me it was mandatory. The ticket says it's not necessary. I conclude that I recommend that you go to lunch but be careful with the waiters who can take advantage of you, I am disappointed.

We ate lunch here recently and were very impressed by both the food and the helpful friendly service. It’s a higher end Portuguese restaurant, offering traditional Portuguese food with modern classy service. Our waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was served promptly and was very tasty. There’s a lot of options for food in the area but if you want Portuguese food then this is a great option. Highly recommended.

The food was lovely (although pricey) and the service was great. We loved our waitress Sonia who offered us a professional warm en quick service. Great place to go to celebrate a special occasion. The kitchen is a well oiled machine as you can see from the outside and the atmosphere in the restaurant is great.

This is fine dining at a very reasonable price. 1 starter, 2 mains, 1 glass of wine and a half bottle for E60. All the portions were generous. The Octopus salad was all octopus and olive oil. A cod dish [on the bone which is quite normal in Portugal] with loads of olive oil with potatoes and greens was excellent . Cuttlefish and white bean stew which was first class - not often that you can tell that you have an outstanding dish when it is placed in front of you. The taste lived up to the aroma.

I was on a vacation with some friends and our Airbnb host recommended this restaurant. It was one of our favorite nights in Lisbon. The restaurant was very clean, inviting and the atmosphere was so nice! So many great things to say but the one thing that made it phenomenal was our waiter. Danillo. Hands down the best waiter I have ever had. We had been to another restaurants and didn’t have the best luck with communication. Our waiter’s English was absolutely amazing, I was shocked that he wasn’t a native English speaker. Not being so familiar with Portuguese food, Danillo gave us the best recommendations and everyone one loved what they ordered. He was very personable, kind, funny and not pushy at all. He cared that we were enjoying our time there and also gave us the best tips on things to do while there. Most of the time waiters/waitresses just pleasantly do their job and you leave and don’t think twice about it. Danillo was the best waiter we have ever had. Exceptional! Thanks Danillo!! 11/10!!

I've been a customer for several years. I started visiting when the restaurant was still in the Beato area. The food is reasonable, but the care already was more attentive and, this last time, stretched in the bill in an unpleasant way. When, in front of a dose of caril of gambas, which costs 15€, you ask for a little more rice and then charge another 2,80€ for a small cross fund, it is an invitation to look for alternatives. It will be.

Fabulous gourmet meal. Elaborate dishes. Tapas style though entrees are also served. We thought it was great for adults. Kids had a harder time finding something they liked on the menu.

The Pateo Restaurante ist a wonderful place to enjoy verv good food in Lisboa. We spend 4 nights in Lisboa and three evenings we went to the Pateo. All dishes we have tried were great! The cod with cream, the Polvo Lagareiro, the pastel Bacalhau, even the olives ( 1,50 € ). The service was excellent and Sandra our waitress know always the best wine for our meals and good tips what we should eat. We will defenitly come back when we visit Lisboa again. By the way, to be sure to get a table, a reservation is very helpful! Greetings from Heyo and Petra, Germany

Four of us visiting Lisbon from NYC and had a wonderful dinner & evening together here at Páteo Bairro do Avillez. We shared appetizers: Charcuterie, Burrata Trufada, Aged Beef Carpaccio & their Shrimp & Prawn Bisque! All excellent! Then we had our dinners: Sea Bass & Prawns w/garlic & chili! Again delicious! And, we even shared our grand finale desserts: Chocolate Cake & Passion Fruit w/coconut Sorbet! Rodrigho was a fantastic server as he was fun, energetic and so friendly!

Really lovely restaurant for authentic Portuguese food. We had squid salad and cod / prawn fish cakes to start. Also bread. Black pork fillet was great with the most delicious asparagus in bread crumbs….I could have had the latter as a dish in itself. Hubble had cuttlefish and bean stew…massive pot of stew with a ladle. Enormous portions. We had white then red wine by the glass. I read an earlier review saying waiter is rude…he is not he is blunt but very nice…it’s the continental way (try France!). Would recommend this restaurant if staying nearby. If I went again I would not have bread or starters as we were stuffed and couldn’t even contemplate a dessert!

Really disappointing food for the price. Attentive waiter but didn't smile once. Was asked if we wanted some bread and olives - and was then charged 9 euros for it!! Visit Dahlia instead - absolutely fantastic food for less money

We discovered this restaurant near our Pension. In view of the reviews we were reassured but when we saw our dishes arrive we quickly dischanted, the dishes were simple and of mediocre quality (school cooking, no seasoning, cold ). We had the pleasure of having a staff of the establishment rasping his throat right next to us, a pleasure when eating. In short, restaurant to avoid

Parque das Nações
This neighborhood was built up at the end of the 1990s mostly because of the Expo '98. The pavilions and structures that once were the home of all the Expo's attractions and exhibits are still culturally and artistically significant. In Parque das Nações you'll explore conference and concert pavilions, a shopping center, trendy restaurants and an enjoyable cable car ride you can't miss out on. On top of this, the amazing Lisbon Oceanarium (one of the most spectacular things you'll ever see in the city) will take your breath away: its respect and will to preserve natural wildlife is uncanny. Easily accessible by metro, bus or taxi from the city center, Parque das Nações is highly recommended for anyone who'll spend more than 3 days in the Portuguese capital.
