About
S. Torpes is, for many travellers, the first mandatory stop. It is where you invariably remember the smell of the sea and the countryside, the noise of the waves and the feeling that the well-deserved rest is just beginning. Arte e Sal is a well-deservedly successful restaurant that features the happy combination of an experienced cuisine, a privileged environment and a level of service that only an experienced host can provide. But it is mainly to the excellent fish of the coast that it owes its reputation. The menu is mainly based on fresh fish, brought every morning. Sea bass, sea bream and sea bream jump directly to the grill and from there, to the dish of their lovers. As a side dish, you can opt for some of Alentejo's best traditions, among 'migas de espigos', 'sherém de berbigão' and 'açorda de ovas'. You can count on an extensive wine cellar, which is mainly from the region, with excellent white wines to enjoy as fresh as the fish they accompany.

A truly wonderful experience. Great fresh fish. Served with tasty sauce vegetables well cooked and terrific service. But if you like ice cream. Ask for their selection.you may get basil flavour, or even mushroom with caramel sauce.
All genuinely home made. But the lime, well it exploded in the mouth. unbelievable fabulous. Words can't describe how good.

Fresh fish right on the beach but make a reservation advance as this restaurant gets busy mid day. Prices are very fair and the menu offers exactly what is fresh that day. While there are one or two meat dishes on the menu this is a seafood restaurant and everything is fresh and grilled to perfection and very fairly priced

We had a wonderful experience at Arte e Sal. The service was extraordinarily pleasant, and the food was simply great. The grouper fish was exquisite, the steak was made just right, and the home-made fries were delicious. Highly recommended!

12€ for one overcooked large shrimp, tiny side salad, water and some soggy fries! Unbelievable. I asked if there was supposed to be more than one shrimp and was told two shrimp would be 20€! I don’t recommend.

The service staff is very friendly and attentive to the customer.
Quality and well prepared food. The price is similar to the restaurants , by the sea . If you want fresh fish to grill, count on absurd prices, not only in this restaurant, but in many of this alenteja coast.

Dishes arrive late or don't arrive at all.
I asked for a juice, I had to ask 2 or 3 times.
We ordered an octopus salad, we asked the guy who was serving it several times, he didn't even know what to say. It didn't come and the main dish, grilled fish, soon arrived. Only good thing.
Terrible waiting time, the kitchen works very poorly, poor service.

This restaurant was a reference for my family.
However, this last visit was quite disappointing. The food lost a lot of quality as did the service in general.
The soup wasn't of the day and wasn't even reheated properly. The dishes didn't have much flavor. The side dishes were not in good condition - the fries were not properly fried inside.
I hope they improve and return to the quality I remember!

We stopped at this small restaurant for lunch. Despite everything was booked the owner still found us a table and was very kind. The menu is all fresh fish, really good!
Very good desserts too.

My husband and I were driving along the coast for the Algarve to Lisbon. We pulled over to the side of the road outside of Sines and happened to see the Arte e Sal across the road from the pull-in point. We decided to give it a try for lunch! What a great experience. Very knowledgeable and helpful waiter who suggested our meal and accompanying wines! We left full & happy! Shrimp for starters and then amazing sea bass and clams for the main. I had basil ice cream with a strawberry coulis and my husband went for the passionfruit ice cream! Ice creams are all made in-house! Perfect meal found absolutely by accident!

Portugal is now known for its terrible customer service, particularly in bars and restaurants. Worst record in Europe. Duly noted and confirmed over 8 years: igt's not getting better.
So it's nice when you stumble on friendly people that don't look at you as a necessary nuisance and will naturally chat with foreign visitors. And between their level of English or French (or Franglish) and your typical tourist Portuguese, it should make for simple fun times.
My experience, so far, with the food is very good.
TIP: in ANY Portuguese restaurant or bar, best not to drink wine by the glass unless you see the bottle it's beeing poored from. Unlike other countries, Portugal produces great wines for the exports, good wines for the national consumption and really liver damaging wines for poor people in big packs. Some packs are good, in stores: in 8 years, I never tasted good (and/or not liver destructing) wine out of a pack in a bar or restaurant. Safe wine = bottled wine.
Enjoy!
Aloha,
CDT

Excellent food in a friendly atmosphere. Polite and educated waiter. Everything was perfect except for some smell in the toilets.

We stopped by for lunch and we're delighted by the quality of the fresh fish and the very stylish and modern interior.
The views of the sea are great too

First things first: this one is best enjoyed when not crowded so in the summer avoid going for lunch and go for dinner instead. They take their time with the food so be prepared to wait if it's full. You were advised...but the wait may be worth it. Everything is prepared with care and detail, the ingredients are fresh and of fine quality and all i tasted here was just amazing food. There are light "petiscos" if you're in for a soft meal and the menu is mostly fresh seafood. The owner usually surprises us in offering a small plate with nice appetizers. Great staff and great sea views too as this is just meters away from the beach. If you're not in for fish or shellfish go for the Angus Steak.

I Had lunch here early september 2015, despite the food was ok, nothing special, i can't rate higher than just a 2.
Customer Service lousy
The furniture at the eating room was dirty
Prices balanced
The food selected was fish, very fresh, reason for the 2 otherwise even lower.
Next time i will enter the front restaurant.

The restaurant we wanted to go was full so we came to this one. The clams were good and so was the "Massada de peixe" (a kind of soup with pasta and fish), our friends had sardines and also enjoyed them. The service is a little bit slow, but kind and friendly.
