We had a reservation for lunch here , as we planned our walking tour of Lucca. We arrived here just on time at the midway point of our tour- at the old Roman amphitheater, which is an open area in the middle of the city...lined by shops and restaurants. Per our reservation, we had a great outside table at the edge of the open space. Service was attentive. We had a bottle of a local white wine: Monte Carlo Bianco, which was refreshing. Our dishes were not the usual Italian fare-and excellent and very tasty. We shared La Nostra Carabaccia – a stuffed onion with custard and pecorino foam and crumbles-wonderful!. One of us had vegetarian polpetta speziata and the other amberjack grilled with red cabbage and pumpkin puree. These dishes were fantastic also. A great lunch for our day in Lucca!More

A great restaurant. We hadn't booked and were lucky to get a table by the window overlooking the square. The service was warm and friendly with an explanation of each dish we asked about. Bread came in a brown paper bag, fresh with a tasty...crust. We all opted for just a main course. The highlights were pasta in a deer sauce and a vegetarian tandoori cous cous. For dessert we enjoyed a carrot cake with a sharp orange puree. Would definitely recommend!!More

Locally sourced ingredients, fantastic atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. We celebrated our engagement here and loved it so much we returned a few nights later! My favourite dish had to be the Lombata di Capriolo. Absolutely stunning. The married couple who served us were...so lovely and put up with my poor attempts at speaking Italian! Amazing restaurant. Staff we really flexible when we had to change our booking time last minute due to missing a train (thank you!). I booked for my boyfriends birthday. The food was delicious, we had 3 courses and wine- beautifully presented meal with excellent flavour....The staff were very friendly and attentive. Would 100% recommend. Eating in the biggest tourist spot in Lucca May put people off as it often serves not the best food , Let me tell you this place is amazing . Offering different types of food a change from the norm . Excellent restaurant, serving something different with good options for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans. Helpful and friendly staff, never felt rushed. Prices are competitive with added touches of welcome drink etc. Gets busy - 35 covers only so need to book in advance.

We booked this restaurant the day before coming and got one of the last tables available and had to give the table back by 9pm, but not a problem. We had a very relaxed and tasty dinner. All of the staff were very friendly and...knowledgeable and (to our shame) spoke faultless English. Service was excellent, attentive but not too much. We started with cocktails, they were delicious. The food choices on the a la carte and specials board were all very interesting, not bog standard food you find everywhere, and all delicious - risotto, steak and special seafood pasta. The local wine was very tasty indeed and reasonably priced. Bearing in mind the quality of food and service and the touristy location, the prices were very reasonable.More

We only had one full day in Lucca and wanted to make the most out of our dinner there, and were not disappointed here! Try to book ahead if you can as it is very sought after, we were lucky and slipped in the only...remaining slot at 7pm-9pm. Despite there being a cut off time where they needed the table back, we never felt rushed and the service was relaxed but attentive. However, the food is the main event here. We had the antipasto to start which was all delicious, and lamb and steak for mains which were both incredible. Also a recommendation from our server of local red wine from Lucca was exceptional. All in all, a great spot with fantastic food, but served with no pretension by lovely people.More

Booked a table having read some good reviews - a little trepidatious as the piazza is a bit of a tourist trap, I was wrong. The food was simple, but so often simple food is poorly prepared. Panzanella with seafood was a triumph - mussels,...octopus and prawns. That was followed by a slab of swordfish that was cooked to absolute perfection accompanied by a vegetable rosti that was spot on. My companion had wild boar tagliatelle that, again, was incredibly well cooked and presented. Add the complimentary aperitif as you arrive, the attentive (but not overly) staff and I think you have an absolute gem of a restaurant that I would recommend to anyone! I was going to end my review there but I will add one more thing. This was our second evening in Lucca. Last night we had a perfectly edible steak elsewhere. Two courses for one, one course for the other with wine came to considerably more than two and three courses at L’Angolo Tondo this evening - and the quality of the food is at a different level!More

Excellent restaurant in a fantastic location. We were a party of 10 so pre-booked and were not disappointed. We were warmly welcomed upon arrival and given a great table overlooking the beautiful piazza. In spire of it's location in one of Lucca's most famous squares,...the restaurant definitely leans more to fine dining than typical tourist fayre.
