We heard about this place in a tv show about iconic markets around the world. This was our first time trying Schmalznudel and we loved it! It’s light as air and very addictive especially when it is freshly cooked. We came back a second time...and have also recommended it to a friend who’s a local. She has been a regular since.More

That was the best Krapfen that I had in Münich. All the food is fresh. The place is big and there are a beautiful garden to enjoy the view.

My visit to Café Frischhut in Munich was a delightful journey into the world of Bavarian pastry perfection. The café’s interior, with its charming Bavarian decor and the aroma of freshly baked Schmalznudeln (Bavarian doughnuts), created an irresistible atmosphere. These delectable doughnuts, served piping hot...and generously dusted with powdered sugar, were a revelation of flavor and texture. Pairing them with a cup of rich Bavarian coffee was a delightful experience. The café’s commitment to tradition and quality was evident in every bite. Whether you’re starting your day with breakfast or indulging in an afternoon treat, Café Frischhut is a must-visit for a taste of Munich’s culinary heritage and a sweet journey into Bavarian culture.More

This traditional shop makes the best SCHMALZNUDEL in Munich. It's a must try snack, relative to a flat donut without a hole in the middle.

After reading the reviews on tripadvisor we wanted to check this place out. There was a very long queue out the door but it soon went down as not everybody wants to be seated. You can see the chefs at work through the front window...which is always interesting and very nice. This restaurant has a great, friendly atmosphere. We shared our table with an elderly local couple who told us they only ever come to this establishment because they prepare the schmalznudle fresh unlike other cafes. It’s like a delicious doughnut and can come with fillings or a can be plain. It has a lovely light texture. We would highly recommend!More

We stopped here on our food tour to try their “doughnut”. I am not sure if that is what it is official called. It is a round pastry that kind of has an indent in the middle. It was really fresh and delicious.

Great schmalznudel, which is like a large, flat donut (without the hole), but lighter to eat. There are a variety of toppings or styles, but it is best eaten with sugar. Service was quite quick, but the establishment can get busy.

Thought it was odd for a breakfast place to open later that what were used to. Doughnut or schmalznudel tasted like regular fried dough. Nothing really unique about it to us. Maybe we should’ve tried the other items ?

Would’ve given 5 stars but they don’t accept cards and they don’t say that anywhere (at least not in English). Luckily there is an ATM very close by.

Cafe Frischhut which specialises in the Bavarian desert of Schmalznudel. Yummm. It cooked fresh & it tastes like a very, very light crispy cream crunchy on the outside & in the centre has the pastry pulled then so it is opaque. The cafe was filled...with locals & had several levels inside & outside.More

Cafe Frischhut is probably the best in the area of Munich. It offers a wide variety of desserts but one has to definitely try the famous bavarian Schmalznudel. Also the coffeee quality is very good and the prices are normal.

Somewhat limited menu, but everything is fresh. Everything was great - truly fresh squeezed orange juice, freshly cooked schmalznudel and Berliner. And they have decaffeinated cappuccino, too. It's busy, and this is why - it's great food.

I believe schmalznudel translates as ‘lard noodle’ but it is really a piping hot dough fritter - sugar optional. Best eaten on a cold day with glühwein from the Viktualienmarkt Christmas market across the road.
