Lovely setting, comfortable, clean and easy. Very good food, pleasant lunch experience. The setting alone, nestled behind the historical Carcassonne walls... is simply outstanding. We had a lovely lunch here, but the petit-fours with coffee were a disappointment... we have been before a few times...but the last time we actually had to request them to provide same. Sadly, not up to it’s normal standard the last time we went... for this reason we will likely reconsider going again.More

On the second night we reserved a table in Le Barbacane Restaurant to celebrate our double anniversary. We were amazed that there was no dress code as some diners wore beach ware or even track suits. The staff there were outstanding, especially Hugo, Marina, Bozar...& Fabrice - who were particularly engaging and efficient. The various courses certainly sounded inviting but a couple were disappointing- the sea bass was rather tasteless, the duck breast tough and sinewy and filet de beouf was so miniscule that it should not have been described as the main ingredient as it was surrounded by shredded beef cheek - all very tasty but insultingly small. The star of the show were the oysters in jelly - absolutely gorgeous. We mentioned the duck to the staff but were advised that this was normal for duck breast - which we know is false as we live in the Lot, famous for its duck.More

We tried the lunchtime menu - the food was tasteless, the shrimps hadn’t been deveined (I do know they don’t have to be but the dark intestinal tract is a big offput), the main course fish was so tough it couldn’t be cut through, almost...like it was raw. And the service was very poor - it was slow and the waiters did not engage in any conversation at all. Compared with a couple of very local restaurants they serve much better food. Compared with many Michelin star restaurants in the UK this place is nowhere near as good. Very disappointing.More

We were staying at the hotel and had diner at Barbacane. Food was good as expected in a one star Michelin restaurant. Ask for a table outside on the terrace with a view on the city, though we had to insist as they did not...want us to take the table. Service was correct as well as Sommelier. I would have expected a bit more warm service, it lacked some caring attitudeMore

My husband and I had the signature menu. The quality of the food was excellent and the level of service superb. All the staff were intent on making our evening as pleasant as possible. An absolutely beautiful location and the garden is quite lovely in...the evening. We took the option of pairing the wine with each course, and thanks to our extremely professional and knowledgeable sommelier/œnologue, Jade Rigaud, the experience was highly memorable. We will definitely be going back.More

We had lunch here two days on the trot and thoroughly enjoyed everything about both occasions. I’ve been a wine collector for over 20 years and it was very refreshing to only recognise around 20% of the wines on their list. The red and white...served as part of the lunch deals were very good indeed as of course was the friendly service and the great food.More

Had an outstanding lunch here. The service was exactly as expected for such a prestigious venue. The food was easily the best I'd had in a couple of years. And as for value; A Michelin starred restaurant with full courses plus drinks for under E40...- i don't know how they do it. Honestly, do not eat anywhere else in the citadel, this was faultless in every single regard.More

We visited this lovely restaurant and had the set menu which is 41 euros for 3 courses, including wine. It's the greatest food I've ever had, and by some distance. I'd have happily paid double. Do yourself a favour and eat here! As an aside,...the service was impeccable, but even if they'd slammed the food down on the table and insulted me throughout, it would still have been worth it.More

First Impressions Located in the heart of Carcassonne’s walled city inside Hotel de la Cité, La Barbacane restaurant has a Neo-Gothic dining room that will leave you enchanted with its superb fireplace, its stained glass windows, its high ceilings and its cathedral chairs. This authentic...setting along with friendly professional staff give you a warm hearty welcome The Food & Service The food here is flavoursome, colourful cuisine created by chef Jérôme Ryon and the cuisine showcases the key ingredients including fish and vegetables from the mediterranean region, as well as products from the region bringing a boldness to the classics. We tasted delicious dishes Mediterranean Mullet carpaccio, Goats curd in smoked ham, Butter roasted hanger steak & sweetbreads, Trout soufflé and delicious deserts. The service was excellent, warm friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Overall I enjoyed a great lunch here, great food with a service to match and when we arrived we relaxed in the cocktail bar and enjoyed signature cocktails whilst we browsed the menu, a great start to our experience. I would not hesitate in returning. Service- 10/10 The Food- 9/10 Value for Money - 10/10. The lunch cost £46 per person inc wine Would I return - YESMore

This was our first stop on our self-arranged group wine tour of the Languedoc. We were staying at the hotel and arranged a special meal. There were a number of people in the group with dietary needs and the team handled them extremely well. We...did pre-arrange, so this did make it easier to manage. Service was outstanding and we had arranged a special selection of wines from a local producer as well as the menu. The staff handled this with ease. The food was exceptional. The photos hopefully show a little of the care and attention to presentation. We all had a super evening and were well looked after. Thankfully we were staying in the hotel, so not far to go to find a most comfortable and welcome bed! Can thoroughly recommend.More

I contacted them by email to ask that question and they said it would not be a problem but to let them know in advance. As it turned out our veggie friends didn't come so i can't comment on the quality of any veg meal.
