We had read about this restaurant & were so pleased to find a table on Friday night. My husband chose the vegetarian menu & his starter of courgettes was excellent, full of flavour. Things went somewhat downhill after that. The main course of risotto was...average, dessert was poorly presented & lacking in flavour. The €30 menu offered foie gras for starter which was ok - nicely presented but a bit hard & quite bland. There was no choice with the main. It was the local specialty, cassoulet which I was really looking forward to trying. It was presented piping hot but a bit. burnt on top. However, this was not really the issue. There was very little meat - a paltry amount of duck & a piece of sausage. It consisted mainly of flavour less beans. There was no discernable taste which I found unacceptable. A dish such as this should have a very distinct flavour. When I pointed this out to the serving staff there was no reaction, no apology. They just cleared the plate & brought dessert which was probably the best part of the whole meal - red fruits with meringue & cream. Overall it was a disappointing meal. For a restaurant with a Michelin recommendation it definitely did not measure up to expectations.More

Located in the heart of the Old city this Michelin restaurant provides well prepared food and good service but not exceptional as I would have expected. It lacks atmosphere and is a little overly formal. We were disappointed when we returned to be told that...we had no reservation which had been confirmed to us as we left on our first eveningMore

We had high hopes of this restaurant from the imaginative desriptions on the menu outside, but found the food rather ordinary. Perfectly OK, but no Wow factor.

Lovely set dinner with very high quality ingredients, put together very well. Tomatoes and mozzarella, lamb, cassoulet and pavlova and pear dessert were highlights - all of it really. No weak links! Superb wine.

My brother and I came here from London to visit the UNESCO heritage. It turned out that in Casseronne there is a topical dish called “cassoulet” which is well known and famous all over the world. As a sommelier and food lover we could not...miss it out! We have been looking for the best restaurant where you could get it and by talking to local people we sorted out that “la table d’Alais” offers amazing local dishes and wines for really good prices. Good atmosphere, professional staff, and outstanding food made my experience remarkable. If you are here you cannot miss this place, it would be a real peaty!More

Good quality restaurant just off the beaten track in the old city of Carcassonne. Opens slightly later than the tourist hot spot restaurants which is reflected in the clientele. Efficient and pleasant staff. Booking advisable.

Sunday night in Carcassonne with many restaurants closed, our hotel (Pont Levis) receptionist suggested La Table d’Alais in the Cite Médiévale. This was our first visit to Carcassonne and were disappointed to see how commercialised it was and were not expecting to find good food...at a reasonable price. We chose the cheapest 21euro menu and each course was excellent. Highly recommended!More

Had a great meal here - best of our stay in Carcassonne. Good quality food (with some lovely veggie options), nice service and reasonably priced. Ask for a table outside or in the main dining room. We were in a small side room which was...very warm and felt a little “out of it”. Would return in a flash!More

At this price range we found this was the best place we ate in Carassonne during our stay. Sadly we booked it on our last night and if we'd known we would have booked more than once. The food really was excellent, well prepared and...beautifully presented. The little courtyard garden gave some respite from the incredibly hot weather - we loved eating under the trees. The interior is stylish but not OTT. A fitting place for our last evening.More

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here, it was beautifully presented and tasted divine, as well as being innovative. The portions are on the slight side but still filling. We had the Menu Sur le Ramparts at €21 each. Beetroot & goats curd salad Shoulder of...lamb on buckwheat Deconstructed apple crumble with caramel sauce Pavlova with marscapone cream & vanilla, pink grapefruit, orange marmalade and citrus fruits. The pavlova was absolutely delicious.More
