So Sunday and Monday is not a good time to head out in this part of small town France. Most things are closed. Carnot Square in Carcassone is more of a lunch place while in the evening, it is hard to figure at 7pm, who...is closing, who is turning to drinks only and who is now serving food. Don’t turn up at 6.59pm... On a Monday night, this place is the only brassiere which does food - and like the varied reviews indicate - the meals are inconsistent. With no other choices in the square, you ask yourself where is their incentive to give you really good meals? On other nights, much better fare is available on the square so they may up their game - who knows? Staff are earnest but overworked, the menu choice is limited but the surroundings are nice - much like a Cafe Rouge aspires to be in the UK. First time we went, my burger was fine but my wife and daughter shared a cheese heavy pizza that was hard to finish. They didn’t get halfway. Following Monday, we went again (no other choice). My duck chop was again okay, but the ribs ordered by my daughter were the worst we ever seen. Bones surrounded by gristle, no meat. This is in the land of the gourmet? I did like the waitress, until she recommended these ribs. I can’t forget how bad they were. So you fellow travellers, if you find yourself hungry in the square on a Monday night in Carcassone, go home and have beans on toast. Otherwise it’s Russian roulette at the Longchamp — and you could lose big time.More
Three course meal on an evening with great choices for about 15 euros. Not haute cuisine but good quality food that was excellently prepared along with carafes of wine for about 8 euros and a staff so efficient and polite. I don't even think that...they work hard at it; they're just naturals.More
Great atmosphere and friendly staff, even with only a handful of stiffen duty on the Wednesday night we were there the service was excellent. The food was marvellous, both the Duck leg confit and the house cheese burger wherever tasty, plates cleaned.
Good wine list,...had superb MinervoisMore
My friends and I dined here recently and found the whole package just what we wanted . Good wholesome fare served efficiently and at a reasonable cost . The drinks were also well priced . Well done Longchamps we shall return .
When we found La Longchamp and had our first meal there it was set in stone this would be our kitchen for the fortnight we were in Carcassonne.. The food was Plentiful and extremely tasty The restaurant was spotless and what can I say about...the staff nothing but EXCELLENT SERVICE and attention to detail...never at any time were we made to feel as though we were bothersome... we had 6 Lunches in total here.More
Had dinner, but weather meant we had to sit inside, - less cozy, - but food was good and so was service. Will definitely try this one again. Only small point is that you have to ask for the wine list or they simply give...you from the shortlistMore
Nice relaxed restaurant on the main square so good atmosphere. The staff were very good but menu was a bit limited although the food was good and we came back the next night where the menu was more extensive.
We dined at Le Longchamp at least twice – it may even have been three times – during a five-night stay in La Ville Basse, which is testament enough to its deserved rating.
The waiting staff were slickly efficient and attentive to detail – customers’...bottled water was continually replenished without having to ask or indicate in any way. I noticed that bowls of water were also provided for any dogs that diners in the outside seating area might have brought with them. The food was appetising and reasonably priced. It was also frequented by locals, which is always a good sign as far as a restaurant is concerned. And Place Carnot is a pleasant environment too. Recommended.More
Having had a few meals in restaurants rated higher than this one on trip advisor, we were in for a surprise. The serving staff were all excellent and polite. They all spoke English and explained the set menus and dish of day. The portions were...generous unlike other set menus we had tried elsewhere. The 3 courses were all of high quality and very tasty. The house red wine in a pitcher was not only good but also a bargain at €5. Overall very good and highly recommended.More
