The citadel of Carcassonne is a tourist trap but we love enough that this is the second year in a row we have visited. Both times we have eaten at Meli et Zeli and it has not disappointed. Novel and traditional dishes on the menu...provide something for everyone and the courtyard is a great setting in which to eat. The staff were friendly and helpful. As always in France the fixed priced lunch menus offer the best value for money.More

we looked at trip advisor and saw the good reviews. but this was not our experience. the food had no love put into it. everyone got the same roasted potatoes with little or no seasoning and the meat dishes were garnished with a green/blue sweet...mint gel that looked like washing up liquid and a tapenade that was just horrible. the prawns were obviously frozen and cheap. it felt like bad tourist food in a tourist area that was pushed out for the money and not with any love or passion for the food or the customer experience.. it was also very slow.More

Very good food, cosy place, friendly staffs. You can see the kitchen right when you walk in. Simple dishes presented very nicely. A nice change of pace from the large restaurants in the area.

I'd heard good things about this place, so came for dinner on a cold dark December evening, was the only person for the first 20 mins. The waiter was lovely, and happy to chat whilst also being super-efficient - something as a female solo diner...I really appreciate, as some places in France don;t exactly make me feel welcome or comfortable. I had a main and a dessert, plus a free appetiser: everything was delicious. I loved the original cartoon drawings on the wall too. Definitely recommended.More

Lovely setting at night on the square. The staff was attentive and friendly. The food was solid and the wine good.

As soon as we walked into this little restaurant on a cold damp evening earlier this week we felt welcomed and comfortable. The stove was glowing, everything looked clean and well-ordered. The decor is ... out of the ordinary (the cow and other oddities and...the Meli and Zeli cartoons). And most importantly the food was delicious and prettily presented. We liked it so much we went again for lunch just before we flew home, a happy conclusion to our holiday. But if you are thinking of going out of season check the opening times. It was closed on Wednesday and Thursday. The wild boar casserole is highly recommended.More

Chose this place specifically as it stated both on TA and outside the restaurant that it was vegetarian friendly. Actually, they had one meal which was vegetarian and that was just a bowl of rice. My husband enjoyed his cassoulet but our friend ordered the...chicken which was plain and looked absolutely awful. Service was very slow and the waiter kept disappearing outside which meant we couldn’t order more drinks. Much better places to eat, especially if you don’t eat meat.More

Non il n'y a pas marqué que c'est un restaurant végétarien

We discovered that the father of the chef was the creator of the cartoon characters after which the restaurant is named. When we arrived, there was only one other couple, but over the next hour it filled up to give a really pleasant atmosphere. There...is an outside courtyard in which some brave souls were having a drink, but given the weather had turned cold, we ate inside. It was our wedding anniversary so we had a couple of glasses of champagne, followed by red wine and chose to pick from the €25 set menu with the duck in the main course being one of the best I had in my stay in Carcassonne. I would happily go back again.More

We had a good look around in the medieval City before choosing this place. We made the right choice. The three course €16 menu was excellent value. The main course cassoulet was a good size, sizzling hot and very good. The waiter was very knowledgeable...and guided us away from the more expensive menu when we said we did not have huge appetites. Strongly recommended.More
