When we went, last August, we didn't book, and I believe that it may be a non-booking restaurant like Bouillon Chartier at Grands Boulevards. You just turn up. Although the restaurant was busy there was no queue and we didn't see anyone being turned away. If you did have to wait, there's a nice bar across the way for a pre-dinner aperitif.
