It is quit surprising to see a French family operating such a refined and tasty Indian restaurent. Here it is the case and if you are fascinated by Indian cuisine, or longing your previous Indian tours this is the place to be in Besançon. Sauces...are exquisite, dal perfect, stews well prepared.More

We enjoyed our meal with a chicken tandoori starter and cheese naan (definitely get the naan). My husband had mild mango chicken and I had medium spiced lamb masala. Very nice. We’d recommend them.

For great Indian food in this part of France, you won't do better than the Taj. Very tasty seafood and chicken dishes; great nan, and light rice and accompaniments.

Tiny restaurant, very popular and busy with many potential customers being turned away on Saturday evening. Service excellent. Attentive, friendly and good English spoken. We had two starters: onion bhajis and a battered lamb kebab. These came on a sizzling plate on top of a...shredded salad -rather odd. Both were dry and unappealing. The pickle tray (no poppadoms) consisted of a mixed vegetable pickle (made in house?) agreeably salty and sour but not very hot, a tamarind sauce, and a minty yoghurt. I ordered a chicken korma and a stuffed paratha, my partner went for the house special of cheese naan and had a Butter Chicken. The breads were delivered shortly after the starters so were cold before the main course arrived. The cheese naan was not Paneer but a French cheese, quite gloopy and was ok when it arrived but not nice when cold. We were asked how hot we wanted our curries. Opting for extra hot, having heard that French curries are far too mild. The Butter Chicken was tasty enough and just right in heat. My Korma was probably too hot for a Korma but it suited me. It was overall perhaps too gloopy and my impression was that it was not freshly made or the meat cooked in the spices, more like ready-made sauce and pre-cooked chicken combined and reheated. I could be wrong but that is how it tasted to me, with no spice or flavour in the meat itself. The Basmati was not of premium quality nor perfectly cooked but just acceptable. The garnish of melon and orange on the curry plates was just plain peculiar, though the melon was delicious. We also had a dish of lentils on the side which was perfectly cooked with creamy pulses and fresh coriander, the best part of the meal. Overall, okay. To anyone who has eaten in Bradford, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow, rather a deflating experience. No grumbles though, it is a long way between curries in France and it was good to eat something less bland for a change. Not sure we would want to rush back however.More

Such a shame that I am unable to give this lovely little Indian restaurant an excellent rating because the food was very good. After drinking from my wine glass I noticed that the rim was chipped. It was quickly replaced and the owner said sorry...'these things happen' and indeed they do. Fair enough. BUT my main course was served on a plate that had at least eight, yes eight, large chips out of it. Again the owner apologised and said she had already asked her husband to throw it away and he hadn't. Come on - to serve good food like this shows no respect whatsoever to your clientele.More

The best place for Indian cuisine for couples in Besancon. The food is always fresh & testy, service is super friendly. One can't just deny that service is so good at this place. Don't forget to try "Gulab Jaman" in desert !!
