When on holiday we were looking for somewhere to eat. We had trailed around Bayonne looking for somewhere that could seat us when we came upon this lovely bistro with a very friendly young man who welcomed us with excellent English (after our poor attempt...at communicating in French). He explained that they had been extremely busy over the last few days with the Basque festival so didn’t have everything on the menu. We waited a long time for him to take our order as a big part we’re in and thought the food may take a long time to come. We were surprised therefore when it came swiftly. It was excellent. My daughter and I had pork medallions with peanut butter and maple syrup sauce (sounds wired but was lovely) with potato galette and my husband had steak entrecôte with chips. We ate our and stole some of his lovely home made chips! We then were tempted by the sweet menu. I had hidden brioche bread pudding which was amazing! Sweet toasted bread drizzled in a sweet syrup with salted toffee ice cream. Sophie had chocolate fondant because they’d run out of mousse. Again it was superb with toffee ice cream. My husband had strawberry cheesecake but it wasn’t just any strawberry cheesecake! It was a homemade one - simply delicious. What an amazing lunch! Forgot to mention the wine. A wonderful Malbec. Highly recommend this place. It was wonderful!More

You get the feeling Bayonne is overlooked by visitors to SW France, but it has more restaurants in the Michelin guide than most counties. This restaurant is typical, I would think, of very high culinary standards generally in Bayonne ... the extremely friendly patron took...time to explain the menu to us. Wonderful, fresh Basque cooking from a varied menu, the fish was subtle yet vibrant. Lovely setting by the river in Bayonne. The recommendation of a lesser known basque white wine was inspired. Clearly popular with the locals, well priced, relaxed. I can think of few places I would rather have lunch then go for a stroll. Shame I live in London!More

Had a good meal in this nice Place on the quai on the river. Good Bayonne jambon, tasty anchovies croquette and a good burger, with some good bordeaux red wine.

Hands down, the best cup of espresso in Bayonne. Nice baked camembert. Waiters were attentive. Price reasonable.

The food was well presented and prepared the cost...was reasonable as well.My wife had veal with mushrooms and I had steak with chips with a side of beautiful vegetables. We stopped in Bayonne overnight on our drive from Spain to UK and found this restaurant as we walked along the riverside. Although the area was very busy a table was found for us and we were made very welcome. The food was excellent and...good value and the ambience would be hard to improve. We look forward to visiting again on our return journey.More

This restaurant is better than good. We arrived 'un-booked' and quite by chance on a wet, cold January evening. The welcome was as warming as mulled wine. The service as spot-on as Roger Federer's. We started with an assortment of tapas at about 7 euros...a dishful - enough on each dish to share among the four of us. Our French friends chose the beef (to share between two) and a side of blood-red, perfectly cooked bullock arrived. My wife had 'the best scallops I've ever tasted'. I chose my favourite dish of all time -rack of lamb. It was served in a herb-crust which was slightly too thick for my taste and slightly undercooked but the chops were divine. A range of delicious desserts was served and all was washed down with brilliant wines. We drank white wine by the glass and red by the Spanish bottle. My wife and I were once wine writers and say unequivocally that the wines married perfectly with the food. We even tasted a modest rosé at the bar before eating. This place is not far from the cathedral and of course on the river. Lovers of rugby - this is Bayonne after all -- are particularly welcome ! The lady who served us was extremely knowledgeable about the game ! Dress code - smart casual without scrum cap.More

I was intending to eat at another restaurant, but it was closed. Chose this one based on the chef's suggestions of the day and my meal was superb. Started with gambas stuffed ravioli and a balsamique herb reduction and followed with lotte wrapped in Serrano...ham. Both dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. Service with a smile. Limited wine selections, but reasonably priced. Wish I was staying in Bayonne for more than one night.More
