Returning customers and popped in for some breakfast. DSW is such a brilliant venue. This time the experience fell a little short. Both the breakfast serving staff were initially so sulky as we walked in just before the close of breakfast service. Really took them a few interactions before warming up to get even basic customer service. Thankfully the quality of the breakfast was excellent. Gents toilets appeared to be getting scruffy and in need of a deep clean. We’d come back for sure but when paying for a premium breakfast you don’t want to have to be on eggshells around grumpy servers!

Thank you for your feedback and for returning to DSW—we’re thrilled you think so highly of the venue and enjoyed the quality of your breakfast. We’re sorry to hear the service didn’t start off warmly and that the condition of the gents’ toilets fell short. Your comments will be shared with our team to ensure we improve on these points. We truly appreciate your loyalty and look forward to welcoming you back for a better experience next time!

The service by Kevin made our day!! I cannot fault his service at all. He really is an asset to your team and deserves 5 stars. However, the interaction with the lady I assume was the manager was disappointing. We booked over 2 weeks ago for bottomless brunch, which at £48 pp is more expensive than a lot of places in Manchester. The website clearly stated the disco bottomless brunch was every Saturday. Towards the end of our reservation, a woman came over quite abruptly asking us when we booked, and made us aware that bottomless brunch was only on the last Saturday of the month. This has been the case for 3 months apparently. We also were quite confused as there was no entertainment or a DJ but were still happy to spend £50 a head there. She was quite rude frankly, lacked customer service skills, and after showing her the website she then replied that this was a marketing issue. The website has now been changed so that’s something. Kevin really made sure to look after us so thank you!

Hi, I'm so happy to hear all the good words you have for Kevin, we are very glad he's part of our team!! I apologise for issues you encountered regarding bottomless. This has indeed been unclear on our website and we truly apologise for it. We would be more than happy to welcome you back for an actual disco brunch, the next one being next Saturday (30th). Please, let me know if you would like to attend and I will make a special booking for you as an apology. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain what happened. Looking forward to hearing from you again. Regards, DSW Team

Genuinely a really beautiful restaurant and a lovely experience. I just wouldn’t say that the food was worth the price unfortunately. I certainly enjoyed it, but for what it was it felt very overpriced (and I have absolutely no qualms paying good money for food that’s worth it). As I sat and reflected on this while eating, I managed to justify the price due to two things : the incredible service, and the vibe of the environment, because at the end of the day you are paying for the whole experience not just the food. The chefs, and what I can only assume is a manager, seated me and allowed me to order a few minutes after service was technically over, which was deeply appreciated, and both of my servers were impeccable. I’ve worked in the hospitality trade myself for many years and know what it takes to be a good server — Marcus and the other gentleman serving were top level and this was very much noted from the minute I sat down. Professional yet down to earth, efficient, well paced, they just knew what they were doing. To me this goes a long way when it comes to dining out — I very much appreciate a restaurant that knows how to staff well, and so the price of my experience was able to be justified due to them!! So thank you to the great staff.

we were the only table in the restaurant, apparently they only serve food until 6pm on Fridays. It made it feel weird, there was obviously no atmosphere as a result. Despite being the only table they still managed to overcook the crispy chicken for the burger, it was dry and too dark on the outside. Probably too busy doing the clean down to get home. The tomato and avocado in the burger were also like mush. Not fresh. Cocktails were good. Would come back for the bar but not the food.

Thank you for your feedback. We're very sorry to hear your meal wasn’t up to standard – your comments on the chicken burger and salad are noted, and we’ll be addressing this with our team to ensure improvement. We also apologise for the lack of atmosphere. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to close early on that evening, which isn’t our usual practice. We're pleased you enjoyed the cocktails and would be delighted to welcome you back for drinks – and hopefully a better meal – next time

Shocking Sunday lunch experience, the whole place was freezing with vents blasting out cold air. From entering the building the ‘ loud blasting noise from a DJ wrapped up in a thick coat should of said it all. 20 mins to get served at the not overly busy bar Apparently it was supposed to be a festive Sunday music ? It was like walking in a not very well attended rave. The ten of us were starved through, A pre order had been sent through as ‘ demanded’ by email otherwise we would not be catered for , yet no record of it found, resulting in some starters not being available despite a very limited choice. There is next to no communication from the restaurant beforehand so there were 2 live bookings still for the same afternoon, 1 for 7 - the maximum online number you can book for and the amended booking of 10 despite me pointing this out the day before We Ordered 8 beef pink, all came well done, burnt honey roasted carrot’s had they even come warm, the parsnips wet & floppy. The whole meal was as if the kitchen couldn’t be bothered - to be fair I don’t blame them working in such awful conditions on one of the coldest weekends of the year so far, The place should of been closed for food as even the kitchen staff were wearing Parker coats , and the servers 2 jumpers We were told the temperature was Controlled by the building and so there was nothing that could be done , No hot drinks available, poor service , cold food, over priced wine, no proper management.

Hi there, I am sorry to hear your experience with us was not to our usual standards, and for that I can only apologize. Firstly, I am sorry for the confusion regarding your pre-order I will investigate into this further as there must have been a breakdown of communication on our side as we are always well prepared in advance for our group bookings. We did have some issues with our heating at the start of December which we quickly fixed it is now nice and warm throughout our whole venue. Please email me directly via aimee.forster@duciestreet.com as I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss the rest of your comments further and personally rectify this with some compensation should you choose to visit us again. Many thanks in advance, AimeeF

Visited today for Sunday lunch. We were a larger party (of 10) and so were asked to pre-order our food a week in advance. Despite this, it still took an hour and 10 minutes to receive our food!! We were constantly being fobbed off and told it won’t be long, just five more minutes, it’s being served up now…etc etc. Once the food was finally ready, the first four meals delivered to the table had to be returned because they were wrong (despite the fact we had preordered and also our order was double checked with us on arrival!) and the ones which were served correctly were cold!!! So for a Sunday lunch (over)priced at £19.50, not only did we wait over an hour, the food was cold and inedible, the Yorkshire pudding hadn’t risen and was flat, the roast potatoes didnt look like they had even seen an oven and the only other veg on the plate was broccoli! After complaining, the manager seemed to simply wander about the place dithering rather than deal with the issue. We were told by the waitress that they were sorry but they were dealing with new cooks and new management - this is the worst excuse ever as chefs/management new or old surely know food must be delivered hot and in a timely manner. We left without having eaten and went elsewhere. We won’t ever be returning.

If I could a zero star I would do! Never know such shocking service from a restaurant! We went to celebrate the end of an hen party. We was a party of 10 and had to pre order a week in advance. When we got there the waitress went over our order with us again, after waiting over an hour and two visits from the same waitress to be told our food was on the way both times. The meals that came out were all wrong and stone cold. When we told them food was wrong the wait staff and chefs proceeded to stand around and talk for a further 10 minutes. The waitress then came back over again with the wrong meals to try and get us to take them. After this we finally got the manager and requested a refund of the deposit they made us pay, said manager then proceeded to run around for 20 minutes saying he was sorting this! The waitress who served us all the way through then came to say sorry and blame it on management and change of chefs! We all left hungry and very disappointed! I would not recommend the place to anyone visiting Manchester!!!

We booked Ducie street for a special Birthday meal and it was honestly the worst dining experience I have ever had in Manchester. There appeared to be several other events on at the same time including a wedding and the restaurant was closed which we were not informed of when booking. This resulted us being seated in the cafe area basically by the door. The venue was freezing cold and we had to keep our coats on the whole time. The table wasn’t set for enough people despite the booking so we had to get extra chairs ourselves and we had to asked to be given menus. After ordering food we were then told that several items were unavailable. After 45 minutes of waiting for food one of the party asked the waitress how much longer the food would be, they then returned a considerable amount of time later and we were told it would be another 15-20 minutes. The staff were the rudest I have ever experienced in a restaurant and the waitress stormed off multiple times during the conversation. The food then arrived and was stone cold and inedible so we left and ate elsewhere. Not once was an apology offered by the staff, we were met with rude responses.

Myself and some friends were visiting Manchester for the weekend and found Ducie Street online and thought it looked really nice. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case. Service was very slow and we saw multiple members of staff standing around doing nothing whilst dirty plates piled up next to our table waiting to be washed. We all ordered a roast dinner and at least half of our food was cold or undercooked. Roast potatoes and gravy were both cold and the cauliflower cheeses were underwhelming and disappointing. My Yorkshire pudding was not cooked in the middle and tasted like stodgy egg. The manager offered to provide a freshly cooked roast, but by this point, we had been waiting nearly an hour for food and did not want to have to wait any longer. We were provided with a bowl of fresh potatoes which were piping hot but by this point I was put off my food and did not want anymore. This is the first time I have ever had to speak to the manager about the food was a shame. Overall, we all left feeling rather disappointed, don’t let the nice looking food of instagram fool you!

Friend and I came for brunch. Servers were very dismissive but looked clearly stressed and overworked and when we said we had a reservation they said 'oh just find a seat' Ordered coffees and two full English. Coffees arrived quickly and were good (but they somehow ran out of breakfast tea which is bizarre) ...breakfast took 30 minutes to arrive. Breakfast wise: Good sausage but the bacon and hash browns were crozzled, barely edible and too salty. Beans were watery and tasted like supermarket own brand at £16 for the pleasure, we expected better quality. There are better tasting and better value places in Manchester for breakfast. Try Koffee Pot and avoid this place.

When we arrived the lady taking our booking told us 3 times she couldn’t find our booking. I then had a glance at the screen and pointed out my name and saw my booking was there the whole time. When we sat down we waited 20 minutes for a mimosa only for it to be brought down as just a glass of juice. When I told the waiter that we ordered mimosas he told me that there was prosecco in the juice but obviously there wasn’t. A really lovely waiter (tall brown haired man) then got the correct drink for us. We ordered pancakes and maple syrup which took 45 minutes to come and when it came it was 4 pancakes and 2 dry pieces of bacon with minimal syrup. I had to ask for extra syrup and over all the experience was just poor. One of the waiters was a massive help and he was really lovely however the food we had to chase and our drinks were wrong and food dry and not worth the money

I used to frequent this place for their excellent Sunday Roast, but unfortunately, my recent visit was a huge disappointment. They no longer offer the roast, so I opted for breakfast instead. While the portion was generous, the food was very basic—more like what you'd expect from a standard pub, nothing special. To make matters worse, they added the service charge twice, 10% plus another 10% on the bill. We refused to pay it, considering how underwhelming our meal was. My partner had a sandwich, and the bread was terrible. I used to love this place, but after this awful experience, I won’t be returning.

Overall, me and my partner had a pretty terrible experience at DSW. We made a 5pm booking for a Sunday roast, arrived on time and were seated fairly quickly. However, the gent that seated us just seated us. We weren’t provided with any menus or offered any water for the table. 20 minutes passed and there was no indication of anyone coming to give us menus. I had an overall view of our side of the restaurant and I could see that there were other couples who were waiting a long time for any orders to be taken. My partner went up to a waitress by the till to ask for menus. A waitress did come over but just plonked the menus on the table without a word. Our drinks order was taken relatively quickly by a waitress who, to your credit, was doing everything that she could! The drinks then took around 20 minutes to get to us (which for two glasses of orange wine is a stretch) and when they did, the glasses were filthy. I had noticed just before our drinks arrived, the waitress I mentioned cleaning two glasses by the till before going to a table with them, clearly noticing the same issue. Also, whilst receiving our drinks, we were informed that the roast chicken had run out, which happens but it was really frustrating to order a wine initially that worked for the food to then be stuck with one that wouldn’t work. Then the food. 6pm came and it was nowhere to be seen. We’d been sat for an hour with nothing but a dirty glass of wine and some tap water. So we left and informed one of the duty managers. Said manager retorted that the food was only ordered half an hour ago (which is laughable for a service that is predominantly prepped in bulk) to which my partner said he didn’t care. The length of time to wait for the food wasn’t the point…everything leading up till then was the problem. The manager mentioned that they would be in touch with us the following day. This never happened. However (and this is the cherry on top), having just read another review from the same date (from a Jack E on 30/07/23) it would seem that the manager that we spoke to decided to pass comment on our situation within earshot of other customers after we left. To say I’m livid would be an understatement. Something somewhere in the service had clearly gone wrong. Trainee staff? Lack of duty management? Kitchen backup? Not our problem to be honest! Either way, the attitude of the management at the time was clearly rotten. If you’re going to bitch about your customers for the sub par job that you’re doing, then do it back of house.

Dont waste your time visiting here, Manchester has many other places you should spend your money at! I was a part of a party of 10 (a roast dinner to celebrate the end of my Hen weekend) We were asked to pre order a week before, and still waited over an hour for food. We chased twice and were told ‘it’s coming’, which it wasn’t. When it did come out, the order was wrong, even though we had pre ordered and they had come to the table and checked the order again (which stayed the same, so I don’t see the point in pre ordering as it wasn’t any benefit to the cooks and they didn’t even pre start it) There wasn’t anything extravagant on the order, 9 classic roasts and 3 people has just asked for their gravy on the side rather than poured over. But they bought them out wrong & all covered in gravy and the 3 meals out of the 10 they did manage to bring out correctly were stone cold with the worst excuse of a Yorkshire pudding that I have ever seen. Some people never actually saw a meal in front of them. One of the members of our party is local and has eaten here many times before and was shocked at the quality of service and food. Staff member came over to apologise but then nothing really seemed to happen. I spoke to the manager who then proceeded to run around the place not actually doing anything. He didn’t even apologise, a waitress did who was so over the top and make almost a joke out of it. There was a waiter who did come over twice and seemed to genuinely apologise for our wait, which we appreciated wasn’t directly his fault, he appeared to have taken the short straw by coming to tell us. We left after an hour and half, no one had eaten. According to the waitress there’s been a change over of cooks and management, I’d hate to think who was running the place previously if they don’t anymore. Picture featured in this review is the 1 of 3 meals that was correct but stone cold. A little bit of broccoli was eaten and that was enough to discover it was stone cold.

I booked Ducie Street for myself and 5 friends for my 30th birthday as I’d heard so many good things about the restaurant. We were completely let down and I don’t have a single positive thing to say. We were not greeted at the door and had to ask at the hotel check in desk where to go. The restaurant area was closed so server then showed us to our table which was right in the doorway so it was freezing cold and we all had to wear our coats. There was a wedding and a life drawing event taking place at the same time, which we were not told about so there was barely any staff. The table was missing a chair so we had to go and find one ourselves and we had to ask for drinks menu. As we ordered food, we were told many of the food dishes we wanted were unavailable, the waitress then returned to tell us even more of the dishes we’d ordered were not available either. We then sat for an hour and 20 minutes waiting for the food to arrive. In that time we asked the waitress twice for an update on the food. The first time she said she’d find out where it was, but she never came back. The second time the waitress was extremely rude, she huffed and puffed and said that was just how long it took. In this whole time no-one offered to take another drinks order. We could see the kitchen from where we were sat and it appeared the kitchen staff were just standing around doing nothing. Eventually when the food came it was stone cold and inedible. At that point we said to the waitress we were not happy at all with the food or the service. She simply said ‘it will take ages to re-cook’ and walked off. At no point did anyone apologise to us or try to rectify the situation. They seemed completely unbothered. We left immediately and then went to Wetherspoons and had a perfectly nice meal with efficient and friendly service that Ducie Street could learn from. Many people asked how the evening was and I unfortunately had to tell everyone it was terrible. I would never recommend this place and won’t be returning.
