About
Built around 1480, The Thatched Tavern was originally a farmhouse with a croft (a small farm). There was also a Blacksmiths forge at the back of the building where the kitchen hatch is now, and a wood store at the end of the bar.During the reign of Queen Anne (1701) Cheapside and the surrounding area became recognised as a fashionable place to be seen. The Royal Races on Ascot Heath (as it was then known) also began, although a bit sporadicallyThe Thatched Tavern only became a pub, or tap house as it was known then, in about 1760; it was one of the three most popular drinking establishments in the hamlet of Cheapside. In the early 1900’s it became the main drinking centre in Cheapside, known

I love this place, it's only round the corner from me and another one of my favourite pubs in the area. The staff are lovely, and the food is just delicious! It's the perfect combination of traditional warm homely pub atmosphere and good wine and...dining. I took my parents here and they were likewise impressed. Sometimes they source things like wood pigeon/pheasant from the Windsor Great Park which is pretty lovely for the local country experience.More

My friend treated me to a pre-birthday lunch. Laurence, Martina and Nicole were all so welcoming. Loved the pub and the setting. I ordered chicken, with fondant potato and savoy cabbage in a bourguignon sauce It was delicious. If I wasn't still so full, I...could eat it all over again right now. Took a peak into the garden and it was so well set out - especially for the unprecedented times we find ourselves in. Particularly liked the wooden cabins. As long as there's not horizontal rain, I'd like to check those out next time :-)More

How we love this gorgeous country pub. Steeped in history it was meant to be where John Brown used to stop off en route to Windsor Castle to see his Queen Victoria. With Gabriele at the helm the service is magnificent. Nicole and Martina thanks...so much for being so warm and welcoming. This pub embodies everything that a traditional pub with heart and soul and passion for its community should be! LOVE IT!More

I took my son and his girlfriend to the Thatch on 31st August as they have never been before and they loved it. The service is excellent, very friendly and helpful., and the food is wonderful. This is a special place as I have been...going there for over 30 years on and off, and it's still a personal favourite. My son could not decide which of the desserts were best, the Sticky Toffee Pudding, or the Brownie, as he claimed they were both fabulous! I love their spiced bean burger, please don't take that off the menu! I want to mention our waitress, Tina. She was lovely and very attentive and friendly. Unfortunately I was one of those awful customers who didn't have cash for a tip and forgot to add it to the card payment. so I want to give her a big thank you for being so kind about it. Thank you again. JaneMore

I have never left a review before but honestly this place was so surprisingly bad that I feel compelled to make an exception. The service at this pub was just plain rude and we had a really disappointing experience. We booked dinner to celebrate a...birthday with friends but the whole evening turned into a fiasco. First, the waitress made a comment about us being 5 minutes late for our booking and led us to our lonesome table next to the bathrooms. Ordering drinks turned into a trial, as we made the mistake of asking which of the draughts were lagers. The waitress flipped slowly and deliberately through the lengthy drinks menu (into the realm of whiskey and rum) and then returned to the list of draughts on page 1 and proceeded to tell us they were all lagers (even the cider and ales). This was extremely bizarre and seemingly intended to embarrass us. Anyway, we ordered drinks and the waitress returned 10 minutes later, unable to remember who had ordered what at a table of 4 people and expressed annoyance at the lack of space due to the menus we were still reading. We were rushed to order food and then. we. waited. 2 hours. Our waitress did not come anywhere near our table during this time. We eventually flagged down a different waiter to ask about our food and see if we could order more to drink. Eventually our food and drinks arrived at about 10 pm. We had to ask multiple times for sauces and the waitress again gave us attitude about having to bring these to the table. Unfortunately, the food was extremely average and did not make up for the terrible service - although to be fair to the chef, I am not sure what could have improved things at this point. We couldn't wait to pay and get out of this place. Obviously our waitress was nowhere to be found so we had to find someone else to bring our bill and take payment. When we left, we finally caught sight of her having a smoke with mates out the back. What a lousy evening.More

The thatched taven has become the local go-to for us and many of our friends, the food is amazing, drinks brilliant (the staff are always happy to make changes if asked) and the atmosphere is exactly what you would want from and old english pub,...warm and welcoming, but the most outstanding thing about the thatch is the staff are so helpful and warm, especially Martina she is so lovely and such a pleasure to talk to, always makes us feel like we at a home away from home.More

From what I can remember there is a small amount of parking available on the forecourt and road at the front, plus parking at the rear with access through the beer garden.
