This is a gem of a place if you are interested in healthy food that tastes great. River Green cafe caters for vegans and vegetarians and most allergens. However, if you are meat eaters and want to surprise yourself stop here and indulge in the wholesome dishes available! We often treat ourselves to the Mushroom Wellington or Burger - You wont be disappointed!

What a lovely find. We found this by accident and booked because it looked interesting - it was in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. We walked from Norwich centre; it's about a 35 - 40 minute walk but straightforward and a nice walk. It would take 10 minutes to drive. It was well worth the walk. The restaurant is lovely and has a calm feel to it. Every member of staff was welcoming and friendly; the menu was interesting and varied offering a good choice of vegan meals with some gluten free options. Everything we had was really excellent. It was very good value with the government's 50% scheme but even at full price, it would have been excellent. This was a lovely meal in a really pleasant setting and I definitely want to come back.

Always wanted to try here

Always wanted to try here and finally got the chance, plus 50% due to government scheme which was great. We had 3 course each and 2/3 of us have allergies of which the chef was very helpful and came over to us explaining the options / alterations he could do. I had pre warned the restaurant and got very fast and helpful responses on facebook which is great. All of the food was exceptional, my dad eats meat and is very weary of veggie food but said he enjoyed it. Everything was piping hot and i had a strawberry version of the vegan eton mess OMG it was AMAZING!!! Can’t believe it was vegan, i would eat 10 of those! Really hope people continue to support them as it was a great establishment. Only area for improvement would be decor? Just felt a little basic in the furniture etc, not that is effected our evening at all, just would be nice to have some extra touches in the dining area. Will definitely be back! Thankyou!!

First meal out since lockdown!

A lunch for five of us to celebrate my wife's birthday was perfectly timed to coincide with the re-opening. The food was as great as ever. We felt very comfortable and safe and the two members on staff on duty couldn't have done any more to make us welcome. I hope they can continue to expand from here towards a more normal service. They deserve every success.

Lovely stop off after a good walk around Whitlingham Broad and associated woodland. Very attentive service and feel sure the staff were smiling behind those awful but compulsory masks which really do remove the character of those having to wear them. We do so like to see happy faces! Precautions taken here are excellent and all written thoughtfully on the menu with a touch of much needed humour in these unpleasant times. Lovely spot outdoors overlooking the kiddies playing field and to see all aspects of life passing by giving a feeling of normality. We shared 3 "small" dishes and a dessert all of which were excellent and well presented. The Fattoush salad was particularly tasty and so nice to see a range of items not normally seen elsewhere. We do so like to try something different and this certainly is the place to do so. Will be returning for an evening next week to try to go through the menu! Many thanks to all the staff.

Back to Uni farewell supper

Very relaxed atmosphere, at tentative staff, delicious food. The prep ahead of arriving for our meal made the COVID arrangements that much easier, and everything was handled delicately during the meal to ensure our safety whilst not spoiling the enjoyment of the meal. The Laksa was super tasty as was the Eton Mess! Will be returning.

Best vegan restaurant in Norwich area

I couldn’t fault this restaurant. Went last night with a few friends, we shared a range of starters inc the patatas bravas which was beautiful, polenta chips, and the ishcakes which are INCREDIBLE. For mains we had the burger, mushroom wellington and the laksa - everything about each meal was finished perfectly, great flavours, generous portions, absolutely no complaints. The chocolate brownie dessert is also to die for. Service was great and very attentive so we felt well looked after. Can’t believe I haven’t been before and will certainly be back to try everything else on the menu!

First dinner out post-lockdown

We chose this place for our first dinner out on our short holiday because we're vegan and the menu looked really interesting. We were blown away by the quality of the food and service and had such a lovely evening. There were plenty of COVID-conscious measures taken, such as masks worn by staff, hand sanitiser on the way in and before the toilets and well-spaced tables. The staff were lovely and knowledgable about the menu and the local area, one lady recommended some walks to us. They also had quite a good sense of humour, as shown by the disclaimer at the bottom of the menu. We ordered the loaded chips for a starter and they were incredible. Both potato and sweet potato were melt in the mouth and the toppings of were delicious. For mains, my partner had the mushroom wellington and I had the fried banana blossom. The wellington was such a cosy meal, perfectly cooked and with tasty gravy and vegetables. May partner said it tasted "like Christmas". The banana blossom was one of the most unique things I've eaten since turning vegan. When coupled with the tartar sauce, my brain was almost completely convinced I was eating fish and chips. The salad was delicious and the pea guacamole was again very inventive and tasty. We aren't usually desert people but everything had been so delicious up to that point that we decided to split a chocolate orange tart with chocolate ice (no cream). Again, we were wowed by how rich and flavourful it was. The chocolate ice in particular was so good that we talked about it for days afterward. Overall we had a lovely evening with awesome food. I can't thank the guys at River Green enough for giving us a lovely evening. Restaurants like this that really show off how good vegan food can be make me so happy because I'm getting really bored of having to have a plant-based burger when eating out.

Superb service, suberb food!

Have visited this restaurant a few times now and it never disappoints! Staff are friendly and attentive. Their mushroom wellington alone is worth visiting for. They also do meals to take away - perfect for when you want something tasty without cooking it yourself. Highly recommend the River Green Cafe!

Treasure of a place in Trowse

River Green Cafe in Trowse (very) near Norwich is in a former bakery right in the centre of the village. It has won several awards although currently limited by lockdown but they are still providing takeaway vegan meals and opening for street trading when allowed. Great to have somewhere close by that is serving excellent quality takeaway food

We had their cook at home meals. for Valentine’s Day, last night and they were amazing. We have always been a huge fan of River Green Cafe for many years and had been missing their food so much. So we decided to get all the starters and for main the Chickpea Mezze Platter and the Tofu Laksa Curry. Everything was so simple and easy to do. Portion sizes were very generous and we have some leftovers which is a bonus. Everything was so delicious and I just hope that they do something like this again soon.

Just found this lovely restaurant on Happy Cow. We were heading into Norwich and decided on lunch first. Can’t fault it. Great local vegan ale and beautiful food. I had a vegan nut roast and my wife had a mushroom Wellington. We ended up splitting the main courses as they were so good! Both were served with roast potatoes curry roasted veg, kale and brussel sprouts. Port wine gravy and cranberry sauce to accompany. Simply delicious and great value. We will return with family and friends when we can.

Terrific, safe lunch

Excellent precautions throughout, even the toilets vigilantly cleaned after each customer, felt v safe. We each had different meals, 2 veges and 2 carnivores in the group, all thoroughly enjoyed the meals. Very well presented. Looking forward to another visit. Pad Thai and Mushroom Wellington pictured. Good sized portions, choice of potatoes with the Wellington.

The best meal in norwich

We have been vegan for 2 years and with covid not had the opportunity to try the river green restaurant in trowse. We finally got around to booking tonight and I can say Hands Down this has been the best vegan meal I have had. The ingredients are so fresh and incredibly tasty. We had 3 courses each and I had the okonomiyaki as a main and it was incredible. Definitely an award winning dish. The staff were attentive and friendly, the food was beyond incredible and the prices were fair and way below what you would expect to pay for the quality, freshness and attention to the dish. Booking for next week as I honestly need to try everything on this current menu before it changes.

Delicious hot and frozen meals during lockdown

We ordered from the takeaway online ordering menu during lockdown. All food (both hot and frozen) was fantastic and well loved by all, my blondie brownie was especially delicious. All came in recyclable packaging with easy instructions. Well done river green.
