We were holidaying in Norfolk and I had read about this restaurant in my holiday ‘research’. All the reviews were glowing and being a vegetarian who loves Indian food I was keen to visit. As we walked in we were greeted with a warm welcome and shown our table. We were seated next to the toilets so I asked if we could be seated somewhere else and we redirected to a larger table which suited us just fine. We ordered some drinks from a lovely young girl who was very friendly and attentive. As we waited for our drinks we took in the decor which is tastefully done, I particularly liked the addition of the umbrellas/parasols on the ceiling. Our drinks arrived in no time and we then set about ordering from the very extensive menu. We started with chutneys, pickles and poppadoms and then I ordered the Chilli Gobi Curry and my husband ordered the Chilli Paneer curry alongside a chilli naan ( we like it hot! ). We also added a couple of side dishes including one with paneer. The food arrived promptly and was service with a smile. The young girl ( mentioned previously ) wore a plastic visor, as did all the staff members. From the first mouthful you knew that this was no ordinary restaurant! Amazing tastes and textures and just the right amount of spiciness - it was a flavour sensation and I kept remarking to my husband how wonderful it was and how it was the best vegetarian food I had tasted and I have been vegetarian for over 40 years!!!! He agreed with me and he is not a veggie but appreciates good vegetarian food. After the main I was reluctant to order dessert , only because I didn’t want to loose the taste of the food I had just eaten. We ordered Gulab Jamun and Carrot Halwa - neither of which we have had before but were delicious. We asked for the bill, which included a 15 percent discount, and I commented to her how amazing our food had been. She hoped we would come back again and I said I would the next time we were in Norwich - try and stop me!!!!! Overall, an exceptional experience. Thank you to you all x

We have been three times now. Having discovered dosas (delicious) and chaat (far too moreish) we found we had booked a table during the North Indian Street Food buffet. Very nice, and very nice to see such a range of different people: families of all ages, young people, older couples, Indian people, British - all having a good time. Not surprised by Vijay's announcement that they are now #8 in the UK! Quite apart from the food, the staff are lovely and very helpful, the place is great (who would have thought that a Methodist chapel could turn into a Bollywood star!). It is really easy with a car, as you can park in the car park opposite and just walk across the road, which is important for us as my mother is 91. There are a few spaces outside the door too.

For £12.00 you can eat what you like from the choices they prepared, there was Sambal, chilli Gobi, chaat masala, potato bhaji, samosa, potato dose, chutney, little popadoms, naans, salad and rice pudding. Also rice and noodles. All very tasty, but not hot in temperature. Samosas and bhaji and dose is not pleasant cold, some kind of warming plate under the dishes would have helped immensely! It was a pleasant surprise that they serve alcohol now, I wasn't expecting that.

Thank you for the kind rating & your consideration. We completely agree with you that some dishes are best enjoyed piping hot. While everything was being freshly prepared and brought out, our food warmer going dead in the last minute & the cold Sunday didn't help us. But we learned our lesson and now have a spare warmer, so there is never a less enjoyable experience again! Do visit our next buffet which is a street food special & will feature a new menu and a new warmer :)

We came as a group. The food was tasty but very overpriced for what you get. My friend got charged £4.50 for a pint of soda water which I think is a bit excessive. As we were a group we also got charged a service charge and individually for the dips that came with the one popadom we ordered. I would get take away from here as it’s reasonably priced but to go to as a group I would not. Compared to all the other Indian restaurants in Norwich it’s very over priced which is a shame really as I would rather support a vegetarian restaurant

Thank you for taking the time to review us and giving us this chance to add our perspective. Let me firstly assure you on our fair pricing and believe me that we have dined at well known Indian restaurants in Norwich before having concluded at putting ourselves at lower prices. Our menu prices were also reduced by 10-15% since we brought alcohol as it helped to diversify our earnings. As for your friend, it seems 2 soda mixers (priced £2.10 for pre-packed 200 ml bottles) were ordered and not soda water which is charged 3.25 for a bottle with us. The service charge is for groups more than 6 and is discretionary as is mentioned in our menu as well. We always want our guests to have a positive experience with us and maintain complete transparency on prices of any concerns or questions that may come on account of billing. Do be back again and let us demonstrate everything above as we serve you again to your satisfaction.

There were 12 of us eating. Table located straight away and seated quickly..drinksnorder and poppadums taken quickly. Drinks delivered about 5 mins later, poppadums took a lot longer, we had to ask several times where they were. They eventually arrived. Some were really good, some were soggy and unpleasant. Not at all crispy. The service was very slow. We waited over half an hour for our main courses which were ok when they arrived. Overall the meal was nothing special and it was in fact overpriced. It cost us 35 per head which seemed excessive given that we did not have starters and half of is were not drinking alcohol. We will not be here based on the very slow service and the expensive prices.

Thank you for writing. There cannot be an excuse for your experience as mentioned. Even as I read the review, it seems unlike us. We have redesigned the menu recently & with alcohol on boarded further reduced the price on food. With this consideration, it does interest me to have a look at your orders/ bill on the day. We are not here to just sell food but bring satisfaction. Please write to us at namastevillagenorwich@gmail.com mentioning your date of visit & the approximate bill amount and be assured we will look into it to have you give us another visit again.

We went there on a friday night, absolutely packed as you can imagine. We ordered the onion bhajis, poppadums, chili paneer and 2 masala dosas. I am fan of dosas, from Singapore to London, I have tasted the very best... 2 stars for the following reasons: (i). All the chutneys were split, which showed to me that they were not fresh. (ii). The dosas were just average. Crispy on the ends only, sambar was average with no veg and it seemed that the masala potatoes inside was not freshly cooked. (iii). Chili paneer was the star of the night, thick sauce, well cooked and with these lingering indo-chinese flavours. (iv). Onion bhajis were fairly average, nothing special, but again, less batter and more onions with a crispier texture would be more desirable. (V). We received a tray of chutneys and condiments for the poppadums, which were presented nicely to be fair. Issue was that the individual pots were fairly empty, which probably indicated that they just recycled the trays from other tables, but again, probably? During a COVID situation, I would be fairly alarmed if they did this, but also, how can you find it acceptable to serve a near empty tray to customers? Moreover, when I asked that they replace the tray for filled-up pots, I got charged extra in the bill for another tray? Pointed this out to the bill at the end, and the waiter had just a poker face. Conclusion: Appreciate for a packed restaurant that the service would not be to standard. Whilst restaurants are expected to maintain a level and standard of cuisine throughout, with your service being your variable, I would have expected a better standard of ingredients, quality and freshness from the meals. No attention to detail to the service with the condiment trays, overcharged bill, and sub-average food standards, I deduct 3 stars. I would recommend to Namaste Village to please focus on the quality of the food and the other points in the future.

Arriving for a 60th, Birthday Celebration, the table set Balloons and place settings. A table of 19 is notoriously difficult to serve, but they managed well for the most part. The food was delicious and couldn’t be faulted. They were even happy for us to purchase a beer glass we liked. As a company they are ethically aware delivering meals to the hospital for exhausted staff, and they now do a scheme where you pay £4 and they will give a meal to someone that needs it. Yes We would recommend eating here, and will be back.

Not sure why reviews are so good. Second visit, and still wasn't that impressed. Menu doesn't seem to change. All dishes look same, presentation very lacking, for a veggie restaurant there was a distinct lack of vegetables (none)!! Biryani rice was nice and the butter naan was really excellent. But frankly the naan was the best part of the meal! We didn't bother with dessert, had a cardomon coffee which tasted like instant coffee with a cardomon emptied into it, the seeds were just floating on the top served black with jug of milk. Staff were very nice but meal just disappointingly lacklustre for the price @ £30 each. Won't be returning.

Thank you for taking time to review us and am glad you took a liking of naan & Biryani Rice. Sadly, it is hard to relate that the rest of the review could indeed be for Namaste. Our reviews & posts infact always are indicative of the richness in taste and abundant veggies and it is disappointing for us and I could understand as much for you. We would like to have another chance to set your experience right. Please feel free to write to us at namastevillagenorwich@gmail.com & we would fit in a reservation for you.

Food was okay, but overpriced for what it is. Even the sundries were pricey (£6 for 2 small portions of plain white rice), and so were the drinks. Bill £60+ for a shared platter starter, 2 mains, 2 sides, 2 rice, 1 beer & 2 fruit juice (not fresh, from concentrate). IMHO we could spend less in a non- vegetarian restaurant. Not saying vegetarian restaurants should charge less, but the price should reflect cost of ingredients, and the vegetables in our dishes were nothing unusual (aubergine, potato, carrot, peas, cauliflower, spinach). Service was fine, the head waitress was very friendly & chatty but it took multiple reminders to get some water, a bit too long considering one of the diners wasn’t used to very spicy food.

Went for birthday meal here because my son is vegan. Covid guidelines well followed so felt safe and well distance in the large dining room. In terms of decor, a bit bright and lacking in atmosphere and sophistication. Toilets very nice and impeccable, though. Menu not very imaginative. Don't understand need for pizza and burger divesification. Surely, a more varied Indian menu would be better? Food came in timely manner and was delicious. Portion size ok, but not huge. Food was really top quality for veggie/ vegan. Unfortunately, have to say would not go again as I found it pricey. Bill for 3 of us came to about £87 with no desserts and only one drink other than tap water ordered. Service charge included. Bill collection was slow and confused, but at least they weren't hurrying us to leave. They have a wonderful system whereby you can pay an extra£4 and they will match it to provide a meal for anyone who needs one- a sticker is placed in the window offering the meal. Lovely philisophy.

I took my Mum to Namaste Village today for lunch and we both loved our meals and the restaurant. We’re both vegetarians and it was a real treat to go somewhere with such a diverse menu we could choose from. The restaurant is very colourful and large with high ceilings, there are good spaces between the tables, the staff all wore masks and we felt very safe with Covid. We ordered the mixed sharing platter for a starter and everything was delicious. We both especially loved the aloo bonda. For our main courses my mum had the vegetable labbabdar and she described it as delicious, full of vegetables and creamy. I had the chilli paneer and it was flavoursome and gorgeous. We were too full for desserts but we had a masala chai each and they were beautiful. The restaurant has the option to add £4 to your bill and they donate a free meal to anyone in need. We chose to buy a meal each and we put a sign in the window so that anyone passing by who’s hungry knows that they can go in and have a free hot meal. I love this idea of paying it forward and we will definitely go to Namaste Village again very soon. Delicious food, lovely staff, wonderful kindness and ethos.

We have visited here once a week since the eat out to help out scheme started. Previous to this we ordered takeaway often from them. The food is always incredible and the staff are exceptionally welcoming. Every time we go we enjoy being served by their staff as they are funny and always willing to help. It really does make a change to go somewhere and feel like you are their number one priority. We are probably well known by now for ordering their ‘Chilli Gobi’ dish, which can only be described as the most amazing food you’ll ever eat. I promise you that’s not an overstatement! To top it all off, the business have excellent moral values. They regularly give food to those in need, as well as our NHS staff at the local hospital. They offer only vegetarian and vegan dishes showing they care about animals and the environment. If you’re looking to go out for food then you’d be mad not to go and eat there!

We booked Namaste Village last week for Monday night, in view of the subsequent lockdown announcement this was a treat we were looking forward to and it certainly did not disappoint. This is a lovely building beautifully decorated and with so much space there is plenty of social distancing. We were regulars at the Namaste India but sadly this is closed at the moment due to the current covid requirements. We ordered the massala dosa and vegetable labbabdar. The dosa was excellent as always but this was our first try of the labbabdar and this was a superb mix of smokey and spicy flavours. We intend to order this again. Hopefully Namaste Village will be allowed to reopen in December and we will be back for a pre christmas treat.

Went for lunch with my omnivore husband and 1yo baby. We all ate from the thali menu and loved it - we have been to India and found the food very authentic. As a gluten free vegan I find eating out typically lands me with little choice and odd concoctions that the kitchen throws together in an effort to accommodate me, but there was plenty on the menu for me and the kitchen made sure I had a really special meal that I wanted. The staff were wonderfully warm and helpful, being really sweet to our baby making sure he had everything he needed, including an impeccably clean high chair. We can't wait to go back.

On a recent visit to Norfolk, prior to setting off I looked up vegetarian restaurants. Namaste Village came up trumps, great reviews on Trip advisor swayed me to visit the establishment. Whilst the restaurant is nice and pleasant, the food did not meet expectations. The reviewers on Trip Advisor mustn't have had this type of food elsewhere. Over priced, bland food left us underwhelmed. I've dined at several vegetarian Indian eateries in the UK and abroad but haven't come across the added twists which spoilt the experience. Saravanaa Bhavan is a well-known Indian vegetarian restaurant chain I've dined at London, France and the Netherlands - food is what vegetarian food should taste like. In addition RK dining in Lancashire is another authentic experience. I can't believe people are bragging about Namaste Village. To charge top end prices one would expect top quality authentic food. Sadly, Namaste Village did not deliver. The prices match those of TOP European cities without the quality - Sadly, the service and food left a lot to be desired.

It is tad disappointing to see that while you take keen interest in marking down well-known Indian restaurant with beautifully worded review, you do not otherwise write on TripAdvisor to appreciate the several vegetarian Indian eateries you visited & loved. We'd request you to do it because hospitality businesses & more so smaller ones like us draw much happiness & inspiration from appreciations & feedback. If I may advice for a better experience, always share & set expectations first & be open to accept that in matters of taste, opinions cannot be generalised. You are bound to find Indian food being toned down on spice & heat to make it enjoyable for a vast majority that prefers milder taste. Also you would find interesting twists unplesant if in your mind, you expected it to be like the classic are not open to accepting anything different. Frankly, it would have been rather simple for us to present the classis if at all you let us know. As for the twist, trust me our other guests do see it as a refreshing perspective, much like art. Since we prepare things from scratch you always have an option to tell us how you want your food to taste in terms of heat/ spice or any other recipe change (Our menu mentions this too) when you place the order or even after you have had a taste and not liked what you received. But after having finished the complete meal without sharing what you are experiencing, there is much less we could do to improve the satisfaction, especially over the food that has already been eaten. It would seem what you are truly criticising are our prices by drawing comparison to the likes of chains that work on a different model & level altogether, which is rather unfair. We are a humble family run business that has the responsibility of taking care of a beautiful listed building, furthermore added expenses for safety measures in the wake of the pandemic, reduced seats (& business as an extension), etc. No matter the challenge, our goal remains to serve tasty, quality food & spread the love for meat-free vegetarian & vegan Indian food. For your next Norwich visit, we'd love to extend our warm welcome & serve you food as per your desire (with a little chat to understand your taste ofcourse). See you soon.
