Due to the michelin star and glowing reviews we were expecting a superb food experience! I am really struggling to understand the 5 star reviews. Unfortunately the dishes were not to our taste, most of them were very mild and boring, and the "burnt" flavours...were used on all of them so it quickly became tiring and obivous. The portions were absolutely TINY, and I mean TINY! The quail was honestly a joke, there was barely 30grams worth of meat and it was absolutely raw, and that set us back by 21 pounds. The same type of leaves/garnishes/seasoning were used throughout all dishes (we had 8 amongst the two of us). Nothing super tasty or to be remembered, the only dish that stood out was the burnt cheesecake that was delicious (albeit not out of this world or worth the hype and price). Service and ambience was good but we left overall disappointed by the lack of flavour and mediocrity. I really wanted to like the experience since it seemed a very casual and non-pretentious set up but unfortunately I wont be back. Bill for 2 came to a steep 150 pounds and we were still hungry by the end!More

I love restaurants in London and consider this city to be one of the culinary capitals of the world. This restaurant is one of the gems of London. Don't let its interior scare you off. Bare tables without tablecloths, a bit worn floor, no curtains,...open fireplace for cooking with sooty pans and so on. Despite all that, BRAT- is one of the best restaurants I've been to in the past year. Everything on the menu is delicious, but I especially recommend getting the large turbo for 3-4 people. I assure you, you've never had anything like it before.More

The best restaurant we've visited in London. Was treated to a birthday meal here - fantastic service, great vibe, good menu and brilliant wine selection. My girlfriend is a vegetarian - the chef made up a bowl of fresh vegetables that was utterly delicious! Will...absolutely return (although have to book far in advance!)More

Service was good overall inspite of being jammed seating right next to each other since the place is understandably small. Started with bread with anchovies, which was quite tasty. Langoustine is also tasty but quite tiny and the scallops with seaweeds may need more enhancement....As for the mains, we ordered the velvet crab, lemon sole and the pork dish. Other than the pork dish, nothing really stood out. We’re quite disappointed with their famous turbot, which we’re told had run out for the night and purposely why we booked Brat?More

It did not start well, upon arrival we were standing a good 10 minutes in the entrance before one of the many busy but quite ineffective servers (which we will find out later) deigns to keep an eye on us. Once sited on the laps...of four neighbors (2 on the right, 2 on the left): probably the so-called coziness of Tables d'hotes ? Starter was ok, tiny Langoustine (note to the Chef, as far as Langoustines are concerned Big is beautiful) , well cooked though, good Crab salad (hand made as we could see....), an then the nightmare started: one hour and twenty minutes waiting for a grilled Turbot. In some restaurant , it might have been acceptable, but keep in mind that in this eatery, your neighbors are on your lap . When we enquired, one of the very busy server told us that it was a "big fish", really?. I think that I ate close to 12 Turbots last year and cooking them did not (should not) take more than 40 minutes. so in any decent Michelin star restaurant once the starter was served, the Turbot should be grilling already. We were hopping for some Magic after such a long wait, honestly very disappointing: a (good quality) grilled Turbot which does not have the "grilled" taste. I recommend the team to watch the Hof Van Cleve recipe, very inspiring. The most ridiculous was when one of the very busy waiter told me that I could put some lemon on my fish (and what about salt and pepper? can I?) , an optional home made beanaise might have been more appropriate for a ... 150£ fishMore

Working in the hospitality in London I heard great stuff about this place and so booked 2 month ahead. Our visit was incredibly disappointing. Can’t understand where the Michelin star comes from !! No reception Tables all next to each other (had to complaint on...arrival to get a slightly more private table). Service incredibly slow. For the first time in my life had to find myself removing service charge as it was not justified. Paper napkins on the table. Really ? No explanation of menu or food when served Starters were small and pretty much tasteless. Not to mention how expensive they were. £ 15.50 for a langoustine with 10 grams meat inside is a joke. Don’t bother visiting this place at all.More

Was a little surprised at just how close the tables were but we just shrugged and got on with ordering. The restaurant was packed on a Monday evening and we ended up chatting occasionally with the tables on either side. Not a bad dish was...ordered. A few I would say exceptional. Definitely order the cheesecake. Staff very good. I left the wine choice (by the glass) up to them and was pleasantly surprised. Not cheap but why are you going here now if you want a budget meal? All in all a really enjoyable evening.More

Wonderful restaurant to visit on your own, especially for a destination meal. I sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed watching the whirl of the restaurant work around me.it won’t be for everyone, but for me it was heaven. My waiter was amazing, helping me...maximise my experience by showing where I could take half portions and try more dishes. The wine pairings were exceptional. Service is not fast, it is relaxed, and I was ready for relaxed. Don’t go for a pre-theatre lunch. Go to fully absorb and enjoy the lunch experience. Sit, drink, digest and watch. You won’t regret it. The finest two hours of dining I have had in an age.More

I’d read the TA reviews beforehand so had a feel for the setting / style / ambiance etc. There’s only about 40-50 covers in a small area hence why the tables are ‘canteen’ style. The restaurant is on the first floor. We had a really...enjoyable evening. Service was good, food amazing, wines by the bottle or glass and were varied (a hefty markup though!) We arrived at 5.30 and didn’t leave until 9pm. We ordered a variety of dishes and shared them (tapas style). Waiting for the turbot (absolutely delicious) and veal took awhile with apologies from the staff. It was a great experience. I’d strongly suggest reading reviews before you book, so you go prepared for a wait between dishes, expense, closeness of tables and it’s noisy but fun!More

Unexpectedly one of the best dining experiences in London. Simple, but extremely tasty Scandinavian cooking plus comprehensive and quite reasonably priced wine list. Great and friendly service. Cosy atmosphere, maybe a bit noisy, but bearable. Highly recommended!!

Had lunch on Saturday at 1pm- first time that the restaurant wasn’t completely packed. Pleasant service. Some issues with kitchen as crab toast took ages to arrive. Turbot main was excellent but overpriced at £160 for 4 pax. Also rather ridiculous to put bread with...main accompaniment and arrives with main i.e. the turbot! Would be good if waitress could tells us that that as it comes with mains- MAU not be the best accompaniment and perhaps to come as a starter which is what we thought would happen. Again issues with desert - took ages again. Good cocktails. Food was good. Shame about the long pauses between courses!More

I've been to Brat at Climpsons Arch in 2021 and was excited to try the Shoreditch branch as I had a great experience then. This was severely disappointing on all accounts. Firstly, the restaurant was overcrowded and our table for two was way too close...to other two-seater tables (hardly a 5cm gap between tables). This made us overly conscious of not accidentally knocking anything off the other tables and having to shout to have a conversation. Then the food came. Lack lustre and severely overpriced is not even cutting is. Here is what we ordered: - Spider Crab Toast - Ok, it was £9.50 for two 5x5cm squares of toast. The crab was nice but there was way too much greenery piled on top. - Velvet Crab Soup - This was lovely, warming and creamy. Definitely worth ordering. - Bread and Burnt Onion Butter - Ok, £4.50 for one slice of bread is steep but the bread was just bread lol. Butter tasted nice but tasted very strongly of rosemary and there was no taste of onion. - Tamworth Pork Chop - Absolutely vile, half the chop was just pure fat. We spent ages trying to find the meat because everything else was like chewing pure rubber. The 3 capers and mystery sauce on the chop added 0 to the flavour. - Plaice 'pil-pil' with Cockles - I was really excited to try this and was again deeply disappointed. There was no taste of garlic as the 'pil-pil' in the title would otherwise suggest. It tasted so salty, it was as if they'd used a mug of sea water in the sauce and we struggled to eat this because of how salty it was. - Smoked Potatoes - £7.50 for incredibly salty potatoes with no smokey flavour. The price point for what it was felt criminal. - Wood Roasted Greens - This was incredibly average, edible but there was no indication in taste that the greens had been roasted and it tasted oddly sweet. Save your money and spare your tastebuds and go literally anywhere else. To charge this much for food that is so dire is ridiculous.More

We visited Brat tonight on our annual visit to London. Second visit for us and definitely did not disappoint the food was amazing I had the toast with chanterelle mushrooms and my husband the chorizo with the bread and whipped burnt onion butter. Our host...Andy was very attentive and had fabulous knowledge of the menu. We had the plaice with clams, roast duck rice and roasted greens. A thoroughly enjoyable evening with top class food.More

Quite honestly the best meal I have ever had in my life! We have been three times now and travel nearly 6 hours for it. Always a great atmosphere and you feel very welcome,I love the baked cheesecake and olive oil ice cream but I...do think the turbot is a bit over priced that would be my only negative. All in all a must visit!More
