Great food, great views, great experience

Visiting the UK from the States, and this was one of the best experiences I have had so far and has to be Hereford’s best kept secret! From the moment we walked in And were greeted by their friendly staff and shown to our table right next to the window which if you can swing it (sorry for the golf reference) you should ask for this table, by far the best seat in the house. The golf green is meticulously kept and there is a gorgeous view from the restaurant and balcony looking out to the rolling hills of the country side. The entire faculty has been recently updated with an amazing modern feel but still has ties to old it’s British charm. You can tell the owners really have a passion for how they have transformed it. I talked with one of the waitstaff and they gave a great history of the grounds and how they changed from an old rundown country club to the modern dining experience it is today. All the food is locally sourced from Hereford and the chef prepares and served each course beautifully. It was one of the best steaks I have had in a long time. My partner got the Lamb and it fell apart as the fork touched it’s and the wasabi mash was to die for! We ordered a few different deserts options as we could not choose between them and each was one was better than the next. If you are looking for a classy night out or just want to grab some food after a round, this is the place to go!

Hidden Gem! Amazing Dinner experience. Non-golfer.

I visited with local friends and was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was terrific, the dining area, Lounge and bar have all recently been renovated and are beautiful. There is a new deck with stunning views. The wait staff were friendly and helpful but the star of the evening was the food! Three courses for me and all three were delicious. I had a chance to greet the chefs who were young, energetic and obviously skilled and I learned they were recruited specifically because they had been individually awarded elsewhere. Their passion came through in the flavor and presentation of each dish. This was my first time to the club so I have no comparison for how it was before the recent transformation, but I highly reccomend a visit to anyone passing through or from the area. You won't be disappointed!!

My wife and I have just enjoyed a very pleasant Sunday afternoon meal in the restaurant, The service was excellent and all the staff were very friendly, the atmosphere felt very comfortable and relaxed. The food was beautifully presented and tasted absolutely delicious, all expertly cook to a high standard. We will definitely return again and would highly recommend a visit to this restaurant for a Sunday lunch.

Very poor.

Very overpriced for the quantity and quality of the food offered. Lasagne with a small side salad and no garlic bread, a very small quiche and a small side salad with no chips for £12. Very slow service, half of our table had finished eating before the rest were served and one person couldn’t even have the food she ordered. Insufficient staff were employed to cater for the number of booked-in diners.

A bit hit and miss for Sunday Brunch!

Interesting location on the hillside overlooking the valleys and golf courses. We were one of the first tables for a Sunday seating and it took a while to get drinks orders in. Service was a bit slow so however when we ordered, we were NOT advised there was only ONE chef for the entire restaurant. It took about 25 mins for starters to come and another 25-30 for mains so if you're going there for Brunch, don't expect them to be quick. The day we were there their till system crashed so they couldn't print receipts, though the staff did their best showing the screens to customers. We did pay the optional service charge, only because we felt sorry for the waitress as the kitchen whilst pumping out tasty food took far too long.

Shame about the food.

Lovely venue, shame about the food. The views and decor are excellent and the staff are friendly. There was a long wait for the food and the starters were fine except, I'm a vegetarian and ate a piece of what, I think, was chicken contaminating my garlic mushrooms. This disgusts me on several levels including my concern for those allergic to some foods. This is the first meat I've eaten in 30 years and it had to be chicken of all things. The soup was chicken and not a veggie option. The menu had changed, but not online, so the things I thought were available weren't. Sunday roast - my two friend's beef so tough it was inedible, the 'roast' potatoes were dry, stale and tasted as if they'd been boiled in advance and put in the fat fryer, the veg and Yorkshires were ok. My impression is of a very cheap, stewing cut of beef which they've tried to roast. I've noticed this before at another restaurant. It was overcooked and like shoe leather. Deep frying boiled potatoes is a well known restaurant cheat but seldom successful. The potatoes had no seasoning whatsoever. I asked for mint sauce which was shop bought and just spooned into a jar, with no dilution with vinegar or sugar, so was overwhelmingly strong. There weren't enough staff to cope, although they were all working very hard. It's no good having an online menu which is out of date and they've employed a 'chef' not able to cook well and who doesn't understand how to cook cheap meat. We had the food discounted but that's no consolation when you're looking forward to a meal. It was a poor experience which we won't be repeating.

Fantastic Birthday Lunch

We celebrated a family birthday at The Causeway and it was absolutely brilliant! Booked the Sunday lunch and the food, service and setting was fantastic, started with some drinks outside in the sunshine on their terrace and then went into the restaurant for lunch. The team were lovely and all of the food and drink was delicious. Would highly recommend and can't wait to go back soon.

Mouthwatering

From beginning to end the service was outstanding, it’s set to a high standard! The decor is modern and cozy. We had such a wonderful meal we decided to book my birthday there the following weekend, and it truly didn’t disappoint. We had a lovely welcomed family gathering with 16 guests, everything was served in perfect timing and drinks kept on coming. My family and friends were absolutely delighted with the food, it really is superb! I highly recommend the 5 star food truly mouth watering

Christmas meal

Me and my husband booked our first Christmas meal together. Couldn't fault the food- it was excellent. But the service definitely isn't 12% service charge worthy. It took us 3hours to have 3 courses the place was so understaffed. On arrival we were told to help ourselves to a free drink and wait to be seated. When we went up to order another drink we were just ignored by bar staff so sat back down. We then noticed that we were missed out of the canapés that came with the paid food package. After being seated at our table we were sat for 15 minutes without anyone taking our drinks order until we asked for one. The next drink of the day we had to go to the bar ourselves. Although we pre ordered, the food took forever to come and there was no check back to see if everything's OK. On average it took 40 min for the food to come out. After our desserts we didn't bother waiting another 40 min for mince pies and coffe so we just got up to pay and left. Although the food was great the whole experience lacked personal touch and care. Quite disappointing as we had high expectations based on previous reviews, especially for christmas day meal. Not sure if we will eat there again.

We would like to apologise for your wait time on your food, as our first Christmas in business we really appreciate this constructive criticism and strive to improve on our front of house service to give our guests the best experience we can. Christmas day was our busiest day to date and we appreciate that you chose to join us, we appreciate things were slower on the day with the amount of guests we hosted, this is why we didn't do two sittings we wanted our guests to enjoy having their table for the entire day. Fantastic evening, great food!

We came to celebrate a birthday with friends and we all opted for different things off the menu so we could try a few different bits. The food was served quickly and we weren’t kept waiting between courses. The quality, presentation and taste of the food was outstanding and everyone was impressed. The staff over heard we were celebrating a birthday which lead to the kitchen adding a special touch to the pudding, a lovely addition to a fantastic evening.

Lovely venue with good views of the golf course

Took the teenage grandchildren for lunch - first time for them. Really good views of golf course. Just a very few things that could be improved - waiter was very pleasant and really trying hard but obviously inexperienced. We ordered sharing platters to start and were brought 4 saucers to eat from, hardly ideal. Main courses fine except granddaughter felt her fish was rather tasteless. Would actually give it 3 1/2 stars.

Really disappointed

Prior to going, the website showed a very nice looking menu, though this wasn’t the case on arrival (I’ve since checked on getting home and it represents the menu we had). I had fish and chips, the chips were frozen which is always a shame in a restaurant, but to be fair the menu didn’t state they were homemade. Wife had steak sandwich which was very well done. Neither meal was bad by any stretch, but we went expecting the menu we had originally seen online, but ended up having a very average meal which is where the main disappointment is. No complaints at all about the lady who served us, who was very friendly and apologetic for the very slow arrival of our food (over 45 mins) despite only 4 people in aside from us and one of them returned their food. The venue itself was lovely, superb views from the table and I loved the decor of the dining room. It’s just a shame the kitchen didn’t match the rest. I feel we probably got very unlucky, but I don’t think we’ll return to find out. An overall shame as the location really was lovely.

Superb food

The Causeway has been beautifully refurbished and enjoys spectacular views across some of Herefordshire‘S finest countryside. AND the food is absolutely fantastic. Making the most of local seasonal produce the chef is turning out some exceptional food by anyone’s standards. I’m trying to think of better in the county and am struggling.

BEST DESSERT EVER

We really had a lovely time at the Causeway Restaurant. The new surroundings are really chic. The food was so good. The lamb melted in the mouth. The pudding was strawberry parfait and the combination of strawberries and ginger was divine. I could have that again and again. Will definitely be going again

Perfect wedding venue!

Attended our friends wedding in August and it was such a beautiful venue! The staff all went above and beyond to make the day absolutely perfect. The most amazing views from the terrace and out of the windows inside, the venue was completely transformed with the wedding decor but didn’t need much due to how beautifully it has been refurbished. The food was amazing and so so tasty, and plenty of choice and more than enough for hungry wedding guests. The evening food was also just what we needed when we had danced the night away and got peckish. I can’t wait to return for a meal soon.
