I have been to the Landgate Bistro many times with a group of friends and I have never had a meal which is anything less than superb there. The cooking is creative, beautifully balanced, well presented and of course so tasty I defy you not...to lick the plate. It's simply one of my top 5 worldwide and I can't wait to find an excuse to go back there. Treat yourself, you won't regret it. Top tip : the soup - whatever the flavour, it'll be heaven.More

I booked a table 3 months in advance for my husbands birthday! And I’m so glad that I did. From the moment we walked in the staff were attentive and friendly. We were given THE freshest bread I’ve ever had with a marmite butter -...we could have sat there all night eating bread and butter - so tasty! We had scallops and lobster Rosini for starters and we were blown away by the delicious flavours. For our main course I had cod wrapped in lettuce and my husband had the duck. Again, the dishes were outstanding. We really wanted to try a dessert but we’re just too full! We had been so excited about our visit to the bistro and we were not disappointed - we will definitely be returning !More

My wife and I have visited Rye many times and eaten very well in a couple of establishment. We had read reviews on this restaurant, which were positive, so definitely worth a try. We were welcomed in this small but lovely eaterie and offered a...well presented menu. Never rushed, we ordered Lamb starter, which was delicious, followed by Cod and Venison and finished with Tarte tatin. All were of an exceptional standard, easily competing with fine dining restaurants in London. When in Rye, do give this place a try. It's worth the visit.More

We have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. A friendly and warm atmosphere and helpful, and knowledgeable staff. A balanced menu with, this time, one of the most perfectly cooked duck breasts I have ever eaten. terrific scallop starter. My wife's duck...starter and the cod main course was also highly rated. Can't wait to go again.More

This is a wonderful restaurant and good location. We all went to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious - especially the duck! And the fish was very delicate. The only slight thing which is why it didn’t get the full 5stars was the slow...service and delays. But I guess that is what is happening now with lack of staff. I would highly recommend this though.More

Great meal at this restaurant, we had an amuse bouche and then starters and a main course. All very well cooked and presented. The staff were friendly and it had a nice atmosphere. Recommend for a visit in Rye.

I do like a restaurant with a short menu- it implies that everything is freshly cooked. The menu is interesting and I’d describe it as “modern English”. Not a particularly fishy restaurant even though close to the sea. We had a lobster starter, duck and...venison as our mains and we couldn’t manage a dessert - not enough room. The wine list was good, though the white wine we chose, a Sauvignon blanc, wasn’t the best we had ever drunk. The red Shiraz was good though Service was good. You don’t want to be in hurry as food is prepared when ordered.More

We hadn’t been to the Landgate before but we will definitely return, as we thought the quality of the food was fantastic! We were utterly spoilt by the service, too. We were offered two types of bread with marmite butter and olive oil dips, plus...a delicious amuse-bouche. We had unique starters of lamb prosciutto and scallops, and very well-cooked duck and venison mains. We were also impressed with the range of wines available!More

From start to finish the meal was fantastic. Lovely hosting, food and ambience. The bread to start was unbelievable - so good we had some more. For starters, the scallops and pork belly were a great combo and the lamb prosciutto was really tasty and...unique. The hispi cabbage main was one of the best vegetarian mains we have had and the Venison two ways was again very good. I loved the tarte tartin for pudding which was the icing on the cake of this wonderful meal. Great value for money too.More
