Travellers' Choice
The Ypres is all about craft beer, real cider and wine. If you like those things, you’ll love it here. There are *no* big brands: everything is from genuinely independent producers. We don’t take bookings of any kind: simply turn up, relax, and enjoy great beer in a beautiful place. We no longer operate a kitchen, although we do sell top quality bar snacks. This is a conscious decision, so we can focus on our passion for great beer. In future we might host food pop-ups (if so, full details will appear on our own website and on our instagram account, but not here on Tripadvisor).

The staff were very friendly and offered us tastes of the unfamiliar ales. Good choice of beers and a good atmosphere - an interesting pub in a unique location.

Amazing decision to stop doing food and this a reason we often came hear Have to say the inside is lifeless Had a local beer that had a horrible twang but did get better half way down Thought the place would have been tip top...after covid especially the garden which appears to be the only attraction but not wonderful as the surroundings of the pub aren't either in fact positively scruffy Toilets are clean A pub that survives on tourists but not for meMore

We were so delighted to find this wonderful historic inn on our first day in Rye. We'd just visited the castle next door, and had then seen a temtping sign to the pub! When we arrived, we were so impressed with the building's charm, and...the lovely beer garden with amazing views out onto the sea and across the harbour. Inside, we had a very friendly welcome, and I was amazed at the excellent beer range - always the sign of a well-kept pub. We'd loved to have come back for a meal, but food isn't being served now till September, which of course is fair enough. We really enjoyed our visit, and could quite happily have stayed there all day! This place is the archetypal hidden gem, and is a must for any visit to Rye.More

This lovely old pub is one of the gems in the stunning East Sussex town of Rye, tucked below the castle tower at the end of the famous Gun Gardens, the lovely garden commands a superb view down the river Rother to Rye Harbour Nature...Reserve, Camber Sands, & beyond. There is always a great range of cask & keg beers, some local, some from further afield including European lagers & dark beers, all superbly kept. Since lockdown they have maintained table service, and do it superbly. Not currently offering food, but I have had some great meals there in the past - hopefully it will return in the future.More

Friendly, attentive staff and great beers at a reasonable price (under a fiver for plenty of them!). Lovely spot right under the castle with views out to sea.

Just to let people know, they no longer serve food so this listing is out of date. It is a lovely pub though in a great location.

A beautifully situated pub with large garden and nice views. Despite government restrictions allowing inside dining and food now, it is a shame the pub is not realising its potential and having a food offer or allowing inside drinking/dining. There a couple of other really...nice pubs in the town centre with lots of choice.More

I don't know about a kid's menu, but there is a large grassy outdoor seating area where I saw a number of families
