Wow, what a place. Third year staying in Polperro and The Blue Peter never fails to disappoint. This time there were five of us and two dogs. The waitresses and front of house team were straight up in informing us that we would be dining outside and that our £5pp deposit would be taken off the bill. As we are in the middle of a pandemic and as they have had to be closed for some time, we had no problem with this. We left our number, got a few drinks and waited on the water front. Shortly after we were shown to our table. Both waitresses were smily and friendly and were quick to take our order. We had one squid and salad, one halloumi and chips, ham egg and chips, cajun chicken and chips and fish and chips - all were large as we had skipped lunch but these portions were great and filling. All food was delicious - the squid was the best I've had! Given the global pandemic, I felt comfortable eating here, we all did, as food was served in cardboard boxes with disposable cutlery and drinks in plastic cups. Whilst some would moan about this, we were happy to know there'd be no chance of cross contamination. All staff were quick on the mark in cleaning down tables and we were extremely happy with the service. Well done to all!

Firstly, when I walked in during the day for a quick drink the staff were very accommodating and pleasant to talk to. I asked if they took bookings for the evening and they politely told me how the system worked due to the current situation. We visited again in the evening for a table to eat and the (very helpful and friendly) lady took our mobile number and a £5pp deposit and within 15mins of their 40mins estimation they called us and we were seated! Food was delicious (we both had squid and chips) and the service was even better! Big thank you to the staff - we think their names were Chloe and Petra and also a young man, who made our visit very pleasant!

We walked for drinks twice on our break at Talland Bay. They have the covid situation nailed. Perspex screen, clear ordering system, spraying and wiping tables after each use. We had to wait a few minutes for a table but the service was fantastic and friendly. On our second visit we were asked that if people arrived wanting food would it be ok to vacate our table - of course! There are plenty of other places to take your drinks on the beach. We didn't have to but were seated with full knowledge that a higher paying customer would take priority. And we didn't blame them as there is only limited seating outside and none available inside. They are making the best of a bad situation.

Thankyou so much for choosing to visit us at The Blue and for your understanding regarding our policy of drinking at our outside tables. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your time with us and hope to see you during your next visit to Polperro. Kind regards The Blue Crew

Our first day in Polperro we booked a table and told we had to leave a £5 deposit per person ( which would come off the bill later) When we arrived that evening we were seated outside at a wooden bench and table, we thought wrongly to wait for our table to be ready inside. We found out that the pub was closed and only catering for take away meals & drinks, and we were told we had to eat outside. After ordering (I had the Linguine, my wife had the Famous Fish & Chips) Our drinks arrived in plastic cups and our meals arrived IN A BOX with Composite Knife & Fork. When I remarked on this the Waitress was quite rude and asked me (sarcastically) " Don't you know their was a global pandemic happening" I let it go as she was from overseas and probably didn't think she was beg rude! She said everyone was doing it, and all the bars & restaurants were doing the same ( Not true, everywhere else we went normal service with the option of in/out and proper plates & cutlery used). My linguine was very nice but my wife's meal was awful! the fish was dripping in oil and the chips looked like the last batch of the week from the bottom of the fryer. When the bill arrived they FORGOT to deduct the deposit we had already paid from the total bill. :(

Hello, Thank you for choosing to visit us at The Blue Peter Inn. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your experience and would like to take this opportunity to address some of the points you have mentioned in your review. We would like to start by clarifying that our current primary concern is the heath and wellbeing of our customers and our team. We have stringent government guidelines to adhere to and anyone who knows The Blue Peter well will agree that is nigh on impossible to safely Social Distance inside the building. After being closed for over 4 months, we decided that the most sensible decision we could make was to take things one step at a time in order to ensure we were comfortable with the progression of re-opening our doors in a safe manner for everyone; hence our decision to start by opening our outside area only to begin with. At no point would any member of our team have advised you that you would be able to dine inside of the building. Our hostesses are usually super-efficient in ensuring that our customers know that the only current seating available is outside the pub on the harbour (a stunning location right on the water) – we apologise if you misunderstood this at the time of being added to our waiting list. When sitting at these tables you receive full table service from our front of house team. We are operating a full takeaway service alongside our tables, which we expect our customers to order and collect themselves and take off the premises to be consumed. Takeaway is not allowed to be consumed at our seating area. Due to our location on the harbour and the ongoing ‘Global Pandemic’ most of our customers feel more confident dining outdoors, thus, this area is extremely popular. We have however experienced a few no shows. Given the fact that we have been closed for the last 4 months with minimal income, whilst still accruing massive overheads, this is something we can ill afford. Like most other hospitality businesses, we are currently operating at around a third capacity with huge costs and added staff to keep processes running smoothly and customers safe. Empty tables are not an option for us right now. We therefore took the decision to request a £5 per person deposit to secure tables, which is then knocked off your total amount when you settle your bill. At the time of your visit we were literally on our second day of opening, being back at work after a 4 month break is quite taxing for any brain, let alone when you are trying to adjust to new procedures that have been introduced in what are quite frankly strange and scary circumstances. On this instance your waitress did forget to deduct the £10 from your bill. However, when you reminded her, she was completely mortified and immediately went and got £10 from the till to refund you. In response to your comments about our chosen food packaging; we have made the decision to serve all our food (both eat in and Takeaway) in eco-friendly compostables. At this time, we feel this in the best interests of both our staff and customers as we try our absolute best to reduce any possible cross contamination due to Coved – 19. Again, our primary concern is the heath and well being of our staff and customers and our team felt a lot more comfortable at just having to deal with empty food boxes as opposed to dirty plates and cutlery. We had hoped that our customers would understand and appreciate this themselves given the current heath crisis. Finally, in response to your disappointment with your Fish and Chips we apologise profusely. This is one of our most well loved and popular menu items, but on the day of your visit we had experienced an issue when one of our suppliers had provided us with the wrong potatoes for chipping. Unfortunately, we did not realise this until much later in the day, but the issue was rectified at our soonest opportunity. Had you of raised your dissatisfaction at the time we would have happily changed your meal or given you a refund. Sadly, it is impossible for us to correct these issues once you have left. We hope that this clarifies the points you raised in your review, and that you will consider visiting us again on your next trip to Polperro. All the best Becky.

Chose this pub as other one (serving food nearby) had a half hour wait, can see why now! My partner and I both ordered the Seafood Platter, with a glass of wine and a lager. Service was ok and “meal” arrived soon after drinks. The menu price of £18.95, along with their own description, led us to believe that we were in for a culinary treat! Sadly, as you can see from the pictures, it was very much a disappointment. The crab meat was delicious, as was the smoked mackerel. There were 2 large prawns to peel (no finger bowl offered), and a handful of watery tasteless prawns! In a separate box came bread and sauce. We both thought it was way overpriced for such a small portion. After a second round of drinks we got the bill. To our surprise we had been overcharged - £19.95 (!) for each Seafood Platter. Completely gobsmacked I called the waiter over and queried it, stating that the portion was really quite poor and certainly did not live up to the description and our expectations of it! Let alone being overcharged for it! The Waiter, a young lad, explained that we ordered off the wrong menu, (the one our Server gave us!). After a minute he finally went and corrected the bill. In the photos, to give you an idea of the size of the box it’s served in, the bread roll is the same size as those small part baked rolls you can buy from the supermarket. I wouldn’t recommend this place as we found it very overpriced and not particularly nice food either. Considering it’s a fishing village we thought that would be reflected in a delicious Seafood Platter. It was not.

The location is wonderful, views are great but the attitude of Rob the manager/owner are simply dreadful. My wife and I had a crab baguette and chips for lunch today. This came with salad and chips, this was £13. The crab was ok as were the chips and salad however the baguette was stall and clearly from a day or two ago. It was rubbery and unpleasant, I tried to eat it but it was truly inedible. I scrapped the crab out and eat this, most of the salad and chips. On getting the bill I told the waitress that the baguette was absolutely disgusting but she just wanted me to pay. I asked ‘are you going to charge me for this?’ She said she would speak to the manager. Rob the owner/manager said that as I had eaten the crab and chips he would only knock 5 pounds of the bill. No apologies from Rob, his attitude was you scraped the crab off so you must pay for something. So it’s clear that Rob is happy to serve stale bread and that as he has a premium location and mostly tourist trade he doesn’t care about customer satisfaction. There are so many better places to eat in Polperro.

Hello John, We've been expecting your review, as per your threat to our lovely hostess Vicky who was nothing but accommodating and helpful to you during your visit with us. In your words; 'If you make me pay for this, you will have a bad review on Trip Advisor by 5pm', it's good to see you're a man of integrity who keeps to your words when attempting to pressure people into getting what you want. This reply isn't for the benefit of you as we made our stance clear at the time of your visit. We would however, like to give our side of the story to any future customers who may be reading this.... You and your wife ordered 2 of our Handpicked White Cornish Crab baguettes - At this point I would like to express that we would NEVER dream of serving stale or old foods of any kind, although we will accept (as we are only human and aren't always perfect ) that there is a chance it may of been slightly underbaked. Whilst eatng your baguettes you were checked by a member of our team as to whether everything was to your satisfaction, to which you replied yes it was.  Surely this would have been the perfect time for you to convey your apparent 'disgust', giving us the chance to offer a replacement for you. Instead, your wife ate absolutely everything, and with the exception of just under half of the bread so did you. Only at the point of having your table cleared and having to pay the bill did you to choose to vehemently complain. Now as you were checked on during your meal and had eaten most of it, we would usually not offer any reduction from the bill. However, in this case as a gesture of goodwill we offered a £5 reduction from the total which was more than generous given you had eaten 95% of your meal. Instead of accepting, you became obnoxious and threatening to a member of our team, and here's the thing John; we don't respond well to intimidation tactics and we certainly don't respond well to customers being rude and using threatening behaviour towards our crew. So thanks for your 1 star review, but I'm sure any person in their right mind will hopefully realise that as always we were fair and hospitable  and that you're just a bit of a Bully! Regards Rob

We came to Blue Peter in 2018 and loved the food, however, it has unfortunately gone downhill. We turned up on Saturday night at 7:30 and the waitress said she wasn’t sure if they could seat us as it was busy and last food orders were soon at 7:45… on a Saturday night… They managed to find us a table inside, although the bar stools were uncomfortable and the table was very sticky. We felt pressured to order quickly and there wasn’t much choice on the menu. We had the fish and chips and calamari with chips - both were well cooked but had too much batter and huge portions (we could barely get through half). Overall, the food was nice enough but there are other restaurants in Polperro that are better.

We stopped for lunch at the Blue Peter inn mainly because we had the dog with us and they had outside seating. They opened at 12 and there was already a queue, we sat around the corner so we’d be out of the way unfortunately it remains in the shade for the duration so got quite chilly, the drinks order was taken quickly and shortly after we gave our food order. We then waited for about an hour for our order to arrive. We opted for wraps which came with very nice chips and salad in its own cardboard box, there was options of various fillings in wrap or baguette and I would thoroughly recommend the Cajun chicken which was very tasty and a good price, if the weather had been wet or colder I would had opted to eat inside. Overall a great experience which I would be happy to recommend to anyone.

Arrived in Polperro at the height of Storm Dennis. Got in the Blue just before mid day, with 2 very wet spaniels - the youngest being 4 months old! Got the table by the fire - lovely! As always, everyone was so friendly! Stayed for a week & ate in the Blue every day. (I don't do cooking on holiday!!) The menu & specials board offered an amazing choice of meals - spoilt for choice! We've been coming to Polperro for almost 8 years now. We always go in the Blue. We love the friendliness of the staff, the food, the live music, & the fact they go above & beyond to make sure you're looked after. Another thing I've noticed is that they have a very low turnover of staff. Always a good sign!! Bungie, Frank, Abbi, MJ, Jo, Sue, Petra, Jo, Andy, Becks & I'm sure I've missed a few out!! (Sorry!) They are a team, & always make sure everyone is catered for. Can't recommend it enough!

We have been coming back for many years to the Blue Peter each time we visit Polperro. The service is always great, even though they often are very very busy and rushed off their feet being so popular. The food is also exceptionally good, particularly the sea food platter and quality of scallops. This is a cosy little pub with limited tables and seating, but with exceptional food, drink and staff! But that’s it’s charm!

We called into Polperro on the way home from a weekend in Looe, and decided on The Blue Peter for a Sunday roast. We had a choice of Beef or Pork, or a mixture of both. We opted for one mix and one beef. They both looked delicious when they arrived but unfortunately did not meet expectations. The roasted veg and cabbage were cold and just heated up with the very hot gravy, the stuffing was exceptionally dry, and the Yorkshire puddings were raw inside. The apple sauce was lovely but delivered in a paper tub (like the ones in Burger king). On the upside, the meat was lovely and the cauliflower cheese was delicious and hot. We also noticed that some others had left their yorkshires too although I don't know if it was for the same reason. The staff were fantastic and when we brought our disappointment to their attention we were refunded for the extra yorkshire we ordered and were given a free round of drinks. The pub itself is cosy with 2 open fires and has a very friendly vibe. Dogs are very welcome and, at one point, the humans were almost outnumbered by them 😊 but they were all extremely well behaved - as were the dogs! We wouldn't rule out going back for another visit.

Ate here on the first day of our holiday sat outside on a table at 4pm, had a couple of drinks then staff came over to take our order 10 minutes before they were due to start serving. Our food arrived in takeaway type boxes with wooden forks, we ordered 2 fish and chips, large and small hubby said they are the best he's ever had with minted peas and homemade tartare sauce. I had a crab wrap which was stuffed full with the crab meat and the chips were thick cut and crispy on the outside. I wouldn't usually eat all of my chips but these were so moreish it was worth loosening my belt for! Perfect meal, lovely location next to the harbour and watching people pass by, we went back but just for drinks. This was the best meal and venue we visited all holiday and good value too. I wish we had returned here to eat instead of trying another place nearby. Credit to the staff and chef

Best meal in Cornwall We spent three weeks travelling Cornwall and had lunch or dinner out every day all at different restaurants and pubs. Sat outside overlooking the harbour, the staff were friendly, helpful and the food was excellent. The fish platter was £20 per head however worth every penny. Thank you

Whilst walking past last Sunday, I politely asked one of the waiters if they sold cans of pop to take away. He informed me that they did and I asked for 2 cans of coke. When waiting for him to come back with the drinks I took £5 out of my purse thinking that this would be more than enough to cover the cost - I even thought that I’d get change! How wrong I was! £5.10 for 2 cans of coke to take away. Absolute rip off! If it wasn’t for my son desperately needing a drink at 8pm on a Sunday evening and everywhere else being closed I wouldn’t have paid this extortionate price. I understand this year has been tough for businesses, but it’s been tough for us all and even selling at half this price they would be making a profit! Didn’t return for the rest of the week and won’t return ever again. In fact on our last day we found a small shop on the right hand side walking into Polperro where they were being sold at 49p! No brainer!
