Food great. Service in dining room awful. Waitress forgetful and slow and had been smoking. Started clearing up to go home before offering desserts but we had been waiting so long we lost interest anyway. Such a shame. The kitchen deserves better front of house...staff.More

Went for a lunchtime treat at a country pub. Waiting staff were rude. Wine was flat but at £8 a glass!! Had chicken pie and veg and I could do better. Avoid, don’t waste your money.

Table of 4 seated in back dining area, crammed into middle of the room where we could have easily reached out & touched the 4 tables surrounding us. It was loud. Couldn't hear the conversation from the other side of the table or the staff...taking our order or delivering our meals. We were constantly jostled, pushed past, chairs kicked throughout the meal from staff & patrons a like. It was neither a relaxing or enjoyable experience. We were in the restaurant for well over our allotted time, the majority of that time waiting to be acknowledged. The food, which was thrown on to the table by the male server, was just okay, the pastry in the scallop dish was bordering raw & was soggy, there was not enough bread for the smoked salmon or parfait. The roast lamb was tough & full of gristle & the vegetables were so soft they were the texture of baby food. It was quantity over quality. Nobody checked on us during the meal, nobody asked if we would like more drinks, we had to call back the server to ask for condiments which came with 1 teaspoon for the tiny bowls. When asked if we enjoyed our meal I replied it was only fine & she said, I'm so glad! I think I could have said anything. At the end of our meal the next table was being reset & the server shook out the table cloth in a manner so aggressive it sent a cloud of fibre & dust all over our table. We asked to pay & was held hostage until somebody bothered to bring over the card reader. While paying a server started removing dirty plates by pushing my son's arms out the way. £140 for the privilege of poor service & sub-standard food. What's happened?? We won't be returning.More

We have eaten at The Grumpy Mole many times over the years and never had a ‘bad’ meal or experience. The menu provides a wide choice, including vegetarian options and the food is delicious, with very generous portions. Their beef stroganoff with its rich sauce...and tender strips of beef is one of the most flavoursome that I have ever tasted! We love the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant too and the staff are all excellent - friendly and efficient. I would like to make a special mention of the excellent welcome given and the professional approach of the General Manager, Miriam. What an asset she is! The parking is very good beside abd behind the restaurant and the picturesque village of Brockham is worth a visit too!More

We booked for Saturday night and despite being very busy and having two staff short we were shown to our table quickly although the ordering was a bit slow understandably and we were in no hurry. The steak and ale pie was lovely although there...could have been more vegetables. The Sri Lankan curry was tasty but perhaps not as good as on previous occasions. Both the Apple Strudel and Ginger & Sticky Toffee pudding were tasty. I was surprised the Strudel was cold as I'd expected it to be heated. The staff were very stretched and yet we could see they were dealing with some difficult customers with patience and professionalism. Well done.More

This was lunch for three people on Sunday 26th September 2021. The food was very good once you were able to enter the ordering system. And that's the problem. We arrived at about 1:30pm, asked for the vegan menu and the wine list (to go...with the others that ) and were shown our table. Then there was no service to the table (and no vegan menu provided) up to 1:55pm. Not even a drinks order, which had to be prompted for. Despite further prompting, no food order was taken until about 2:20pm. Yes, the place was busy, but to leave diners with no communication for two spells each of 25 minutes is unacceptable. It's no good saying that you have had x number of people coming through. When you know that you cannot cope, don't take the bookings. I felt really ignored and neglected by the staff and subsequently learnt that a party of three would usually only have the table for two hours. Thankfully no attempt was made to enforce this. One aspect of the service was particularly fast. That was presentation of the bill following just one request. There were then two prompting reminders from a member of the staff while we were working what to pay. Yes, that aspect of the service was really fast.More

My parents had booked the grumpy mole to celebrate a very special wedding anniversary. I rang a day before and asked them to make the olds feel like royalty. The staff didn’t disappoint. My parents were blown away by the food, the service and their...welcome. The perfect level of fuss. Thank you. Food hIghlights for them were the haddock in batter - light and crispy and my dad loved his bread and butter pudding. Always top notch food at the Grumpy Mole in BrockhamMore

Despite informing the restaurant of my food allergies and requesting a menu so that the chef could say 'no not suitable or ' yes I can do that' . I had a dreadful experience. The Cayjan Chicken was served as 3 slices of plain chicken....I sent it back and it rearrived with a few leave and slices of gerkins on. By this time I ßhared my husband's potato skins. When my main arrived it was a fried sea bass with a few tiny prawns scattered on top. The sauce was neat lemon juice with oil floating on top. I sent this back and the dish was returned with what I think was mango sauce in the little jug. I pointed out that on the menu it says served with a white wine cream and dill sauce none of which I am allergic to. The waitresses were very upset despite our constant reassurance that it was not their fault. I had no meal, We have previously dined there before and the food was excellent. It was actually my 80th birthday. Based on my last experience. I would absolutely not recommend anyone dining there.More

Don't miss out on a visit to the Grumpy Mole in Brockham!!!!!!!! We visited this establishment for the first time today having previously booked online. The bar and restaurant looked cosy and inviting and was only just bettered by the warm friendly welcome from the...staff. These first impressions created high expectations. Could the rest of our visit live up to this early promise? The answer is undoubtedly yes!! The food was exceptional as was the service. The young staff blended friendliness with professionalism which made our visit delightful. From our experience The Grumpy Mole, Brockham deserves to be fully booked. Good luck to them and THANK YOU.More

Hello - we welcome dogs in our bar area but not in the restaurant. The bar is quite small so I would recommend booking a table. Look forward to seeing you soon. Robin @ The Grumpy Mole
