Visited KOKORO with my husband not really having had sushi in a restaurant before. We were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and extremely satisfied - so much so that we returned the next evening. Aaron looked after us on both occasions and he had amazing customer service. Nothing was too much trouble and it was a real pleasure to be served by him! Thank you KOKORO, we really hope we get the chance to dine with you again in the future :)

What an incredible gem of an experience, especially without having to deal with the incredibly 3rd world, potholed road running in front of tulum luxury beach hotels. Kokoro is inside COPAL, an Oasis in between tulum city, and tulum beach. We were staying in the city, and on our last night refused to endure the ‘road’ to the beach restaurants. And are we glad we did! Btw, do not go to the entrance of kokoro, it leads you through a jungle trail that is not for elegant dress or shoes. Instead, have your driver take you to the entrance of COPAL, and have them escort you to the entrance of Kokoro. The downstairs is a small Mexican restaurant. Kokoro is above, also small, but nice. In reviewing the menu, I saw they had omakase (chef’s choice) , so that was it for me and my wife. We prefer to have a chef serve us his best. After all, s/he knows what that is better than us. We started with nigiri (2 pieces each of tuna, salmon, and a white fish, per person), this was followed by a hand roll of spicy tuna. Then 6 pieces (3 each) of sushi. Unagi with fois, salmon, white fish, ?, ?, and incredible belly cut tuna. Then 8 cuts of sushi roll that was spicy salmon, covered in what looked and tasted like quail egg! Then miso soup, and finally green tea ice cream. The quality and flavor of the sushi was extraordinary! The presentation was all 5 stars. And, while I’m not a sushi officianado, I have dined omakase at Jiro in Tokyo, and personally been served by Masa at his restaurant in New York ($550/per before water, much less the shots of 20 year old hibiki!). The difference me tween Masa and Kokoro has more to do with location and atmosphere, than taste and quality of food. If there is a difference, it is so close to not be worth mentioning. Kokoro is that good.

We had a waiter share with us the QR code for a review however whatever opinion we’re giving is based off of our own experiences. My group of seven was seated in the second level and was provided a menu of drinks + QR code of the rest of the menu. We all ordered some nigiri, drinks, and sets which were comparable to San Francisco prices. This is expected from nicer restaurants in Tulum summer 2021 so it wasn’t a huge problem. Otherwise, great food and ambiance. Perfect for a date, deep conversations, or otherwise!

I came here the end of September with a couple friends. We’re from Chicago and have several different omakase restaurants there.
We placed a reservation for 7:30, we decided to get an omakase for the three of us the price was very reasonable. The fish was sooo fresh!! The toro melts in your mouth. You get two starters, a sashimi plate, 9 nigiri, a hand roll, soup and dessert.
The restaurant is outdoor, but they supply bug spray. Once you start eating forget about everything else.
The soy sauce and wasabi also tasted house made. It was delicious, the ambiance was on point, and the service was great! 💖

My husband and I had dinner at Kokoro last Friday evening and it was just wonderful. The restaurant's location inside Copal, one of the nicest hotels in Tulum, has an amazing surrounding. We were treated really well by all the employees at the hotel and by the waiters at the restaurant who explained all the different dishes on the menu. And the food was absolutely exquisite! Also very reasonable price wise. Live music in the restaurant and a variety of drinks and cocktails made a perfect night. Totally recommended.

My fiancé and I traveled from San Diego and stayed at Copal. I happened to make a reservation at Kokoro our first night without knowing it was the restaurant hotel and we’re more than pleasantly surprised. The attention to detail was unmatched on any restaurant we have visited, and that’s coming from two food/bev industry workers of over 20 years combined. And I’m not just talking about the food, the mixed drinks were outstanding, the rose was dry and thirst quenching, service was EXCELLENT Eric made FANTASTIC sashimi right in front of us and Daniel was our server and was sooooo attentive but not invasive, Tomas made some of the most gorgeous craft cocktails and everyone was so hygienic during COVID using tongs and constantly sanitizing and washing surfaces and hands. We already have another reservation to come back before we leave in 2 days.

Our waitress kept pushing hard for a review, so here it goes. We went to Kokoro excited and enthused based on all the reviews. The overall presentation of the restaurant was beautiful, trendy with a hint of romantic/mysterious vibe. The place definitely makes an impression on you. This was probably the best part of the night. The sushi here is subpar at best. It seemed fresh, but I had stomach issues later at night which was not fun. What was really annoying was when the bill came our waitress tried to force us make a positive review on the spot while overlooking what we were typing. When we said we will review later, she gave us some attitude which left a really bad taste in my mouth. I won't be coming back here and give it one star for the ambience and trendy appearance.

Wow, this place is a hidden gem!
Its beautiful location in the middle of the jungle with a glowing trail leading up to the restaurant.
A very intimate and romantic location.
And the food is so delicious, every single dish and presentation was five star quality.
Our waiter Anna was so amazing and helpful with helping us choose our dishes according to our tastes.
They also burn some kind of incense by the entrance that smells so amazing.
You have to visit this place when in Tulum because you wont be disappointed.

My mom and I had an incredible food and absolutely amazing time at Kokoro. It’s a hidden gem the jungles of Aldea Zama with a relaxing and charming ambiance!
We were seated at the second floor’s bar next to the chief’s cooking table and it was truly spectacular experience to see how dishes are getting prepared. Every dish is a peace of art with a beautiful presentation. You can see that the chief is using only the ingredient of the highest quality. Kokoro has a wide variety of Japanese dishes, including delicious vegetarian and vegan options.
The service we received was so amazing and everyone who works at the restaurant is very nice and polite and made us feel welcomed, so we definitely will be back. If you are in Aldea Zama, you can easily walk to the restaurant, which is located on the premises of Copal Hotel.

The food was absolutely incredible, very well prepared and the setting of the restaurant in general is gorgeous. You feel like you are dining in an intimate location in the jungle with mood lighting and pretty sights. It's a small space, so if you are travelling during high-season you might want to make a reservation ahead of time. The portions are pretty small though, and we ended up spending a lot more than we were planning for a meal in Tulum. So that is something to consider!

It’s so hard to find excellent sushi in Mexico... this place felt like it was straight out of Japan. Absolutely phenomenal and fresh! Elizabeth the host was a perfect start to dinner- her attention to detail and making us feel welcomed was unmatched. I can’t wait to come back and try to omakase! Great new addition to Aldea zama!

Easily one of the best places you can eat in Tulum, maybe the whole country. Service was friendly and amazing. The omakase chef's dinner was more than worth the price. We could seriously barely eat it all and it was the best fish I've ever tasted.

We had the best experience at Kokoro, we sat near the chefs table and it was a pleasure to see all the sushi being freshly made to order. My server was Armando, he was knowledgable about the menu and very helpful.
Would definitely recommend. There’s a cool vibe at the restaurant, cute lighting and a little path into the jungle that makes it feel really special when you are dining. If you like the freshest fish then make sure you go as a treat (it isn’t cheap but it is worth it)

Had a great time coming back twice was a must. I will probably come back again before I leave. We got the sashimi which is well worth, the fresh fish is buttery and can be. We also got the unagi roll which was an unexpected flavor bomb. You must try the oysters as well. Best I’ve ever had. I was not expecting Mexico to have sushi as good as this.

The food was really good but what really sold me and my brother was our server Ana! We were pretty new to Japanese food and she had provided great information on food we ordered, and went above and beyond to help us with the little things we didn’t like and took back food and brought it back to help it taste better. She was on top of our shot refills, and personality was perfect. Ana needs a raise! Coming back with the rest of our family tomorrow!
